Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot captain Larry Andrew Landgren, age 66.  Captain Landgren joined Delta Air Lines 10-30-1997.  He is survived by his wife Josephine “Jo”, and by his mother and his siblings.

Obituary :  Larry Andrew Landgren

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Andrew Landgren, 66, of Peachtree City, Georgia. A bright spark in this world, Larry will be deeply missed by so many. The Landgren family was unprepared for this unexpected loss, as were his friends, colleagues/ aviators. He touched the lives of so many and his legacy lives on in his family.

 

Larry, known by his call signs “Radar” and “Jedi,” was born in Evanston, Illinois on August 22, 1955, to Anna Jean and George Lawrence Landgren. A motivated and goal-oriented young student, Larry graduated from Evanston High School and received a full AFROTC scholarship to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1977, and a master’s degree in 1981 in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His accolades continued beyond his university life and on through the United States Air Force, where he completed USAF Navigator training in 1978 and Pilot training in 1983. While in training on the F-16 Falcon at Luke AFB, Larry met the love of his life and married Josephine (Jo) Spinnato on April 6, 1985, for the first time and then again on November 2, 1985, in Jo’s hometown in upstate New York. The joys and thrills of their lives together with their three incredible children could fill a book, and Larry would have been the one to write it!

 

Larry’s many accomplishments include 20 years in the Air Force flying the F-111F Aardvark, F-16 Falcon and A-10 Warthog. After retiring from the Air Force in 1998, he joined the ranks of many of those he knew at Delta Air Lines and flew the B-717, B-737, B-757, B-767, and the MD-88. His final days at Delta Air Lines were as captain on the B-737, where his wife, Jo, and eldest son, Sean, were able to join him on his final flight from Pensacola, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia. He was an inspiration to his first officers and was known for some of the smoothest landings at Delta Air Lines! And he was not done after retiring twice, he instructed in the Delta simulators as a 737-pilot instructor. Thus, his legacy lives on at Delta.

 

Larry enjoyed and was passionate about so many things: running, refereeing soccer, swimming, reading, trivia, puzzles, camping / hiking, bonfires, driving the school bus, and above all, teaching. He advised and directed with the imagination and freshness of a child, not to say he was immature or juvenile, but to say that he could relate to everyone. Training young aviators with his love of flying and gently sharing his faith in God with all who know him were two of his passions. He was a kind soul who listened intently, but he also challenged each of us to question ourselves, “what are you living for?” Larry was living truth and for Jesus.

 

Larry is predeceased by his father, Geroge, and survived by his incredible mother, Anna Jean, who recently enjoyed her 101st trip around the sun, something we all thought we would celebrate with Larry. He is survived by his beautiful young wife, Jo, and they were married for more than 36 brilliant years. He is also survived by three siblings; Karen (Perry) Bourne, Nancy (Bob) Clark, and David (Patty) Landgren; his children, Sean (Ruskee) Landgren of Smyrna, Georgia, Chad (Jenna) Landgren of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and Christine Landgren and her boyfriend, Carter Miller of Atlanta, Georgia. Many more call Larry a brother, cousin, uncle and teacher, and that is the mark of a true Christian; he loved one and all.

 

A Memorial service will be held at One Church at 2130 Redwine Road, Fayetteville, Georgia on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 2:00 PM with a reception immediately following at the Woodcreek Clubhouse at 125 Woodcreek Lane, Fayetteville, just south of the church off Redwine road in the Woodcreek subdivision.

Falling tree kills driver on Redwine Road

A Fayetteville man passed away after his vehicle was struck on Jan. 3 by a falling tree as he was traveling on Redwine Road. 

Sheriff Barry Babb said 66-year-old Larry Landgren on Jan. 3 shortly after 4 a.m. had been driving northbound on Redwine Road when a pine tree fell onto his Honda Civic approximately 635 feet from the intersection with Harp Road. 

The vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree, then continued to an uncontrolled stop, Babb said. 

Landgren was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased, said Babb. 

Landgern was a retired Delta Airlines captain heading in to teach a simulator session before the crash, according to social media posts.
