VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man is dead after driving off Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach on Tuesday morning.

Virginia State Police said the driver of a 2003 Chevy Suburban ran off eastbound I-264 and hit a tree around 10:42 a.m. Tuesday, west of First Colonial Road.

State Police said the driver, 64-year-old John Joseph Romano III of Virginia Beach, died on impact. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Investigators said neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors to the crash, and that Romano had been wearing his seatbelt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
