Subject: re Janet Gildermaster's death
 

The obituary notice was place in The Daily Star, Hammond, La. in late September & an announcement of her memorial service (October 19) placed in early October in The Daily Star.  If anyone would like an announcement of her passing or a copy of the memorial service bulletin, they can contact her youngest daughter Lynette by text or phone @ 303-883-4395 or mail @ 3440 El Pinal Dr. / Evergreen, CO 80439. 
 
 Donations were requested to go in her memory to her church:  First Presbyterian Church/ 103 N. Pine St. / Hammond, La 70401  if any one so desires.  All of her friends and aquaintances in the airline and art and local communities where she and Lyle lived have made for huge blessings in the life of Janet, Lyle and their family.  The family and so many friends certainly miss her but are glad that she passed peacefully and is with the Lord. She was blessed to be active and traveling until January 6 of this year!  Still driving also!

News has been received with the passing of Janet Gildermaster, widow of C&S/DL Captain Lyle Gildermaster.  Captain Gildermaster, born August 21, 1923, passed on November 4, 2002.  Mrs. Gildermaster had most recently resided at 135 Colver Dr., Ponchatoula, La. 70454.

Janet W. Gildermaster, of Ponchatoula, died Sept. 18; funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church, Hammond; arrangements with Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond.

Janet W. Gildermaster passed away Sept. 18, 2013 at her home in Ponchatoula. Her final weeks were spent surrounded by family and friends that she loved.  She was a loving mother, a devoted friend, an accomplished artist and a committed Christian with an enduring faith in God.
She was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Louisiana in 1949. She earned a BA in Art Education from Albion College and studied at the New York School of Design and Academie Julian in Paris, France.
Her award-winning watercolor artwork has been exhibited throughout Southeast Louisiana and is found in private and corporate collections.
She managed the restoration and establishment of the Mail Car Art Gallery and served as its director from 1979-1987.
She was a member of the Hammond Art Guild and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hammond Regional Arts Center.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hammond.

Mrs. Gildermaster is survived by her five children, Lark Smith and her husband Steve, Gail Starkey and her husband Amos Lee, Marshall Lane Gildermaster and his wife Suzanne, Lura Beth Rhodenbaugh and her husband Tim and Lynette Gildermaster; her brother, John Wheatley; her grandchildren: Rachel Gomez, Autumn Vining and her husband Bryce, Krista Lyn Sintz and her husband Brandon, Oliver Cody Norris and his wife Sarah, Konrad Norris and Bryce Norris; her great-grandchildren, Hannah Gomez, Sarah Grace Gomez, Mallory Vining and Ashton Vining; eight step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lyle H. Gildermaster, and her sister, Barbara Wheatley.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Hammond on Saturday, October 19th at 2 p.m.

Donations in her memory will be graciously welcomed by First Presbyterian Church, 103 N. Pine Street, Hammond, LA 70401 and by North Oaks Hospice, 15790 Paul Vega MD Drive, Hammond, LA 70403.

GILDERMASTER, LYLE H.
Ponchatoula - Lyle H. Gildermaster, 79, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002.   He was reared in Princeton, Ill., a Army Corps veteran during World War II and a pilot for Chicago and Southern Airlines who later merged with Delta Airlines from which he retired. He was a member of the Airline Pilots Association and chairman of Delta's Master Executive Council of ALPA. He was also a member of Munholland United Methodist Church in Metairie, First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula and First Presbyterian Church of Hammond.  He is survived by his wife, Janet; brother, Eugene Gildermaster of Washington, Ill.; five children, Lark Smith of Onancock, Va., Gail Starkey of Ponchatoula, Marshall Lane Gildermaster of Severna Park, Md., Lura Beth Rhodenbaugh of Oxford, Ohio, Lynette Gildermaster of Evergreen, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mildred Gildermaster.  His remains have been donated to the LSUHSC Neuroscience Center of Excellence. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be mailed In Memory of Lyle Gildermaster to The Foundation, LSU Health Sciences Center, 1600 Canal St., Suite 1010, New Orleans 70112.
