NEA/DL Capt Frank A. LaVecchio

WWII veteran, NEA/DL Capt. Frank A. LaVecchio
December 12, 1922 ~ October 16, 2013 

Notification with the passing of WWII veteran NEA/DL Captain Frank LaVecchio, age 90.   I believe Captain LaVecchio initially hired on with Northeast Airlines 06-08-1942.  He is listed (LeVecchio) with a 05-24-1957 seniority date on the pilot roster.  I believe he retired with Delta Air Lines at the mandatory age 60.  Survived by his wife Flora personal condolences may be sent to the family at 67 Moffatt Road, Salem  MA 01970-4355  ...  (978) 745-1615

Frank LaVecchio, 90: Newspaper Obituary 

— Frank A. LaVecchio, age 90, loving husband of Flora (Ruscio) LaVecchio for 60 years, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Born in Boston, one of 10 children, the son of the late Antonio and Angelina (Sacco) LaVecchio, he was raised in East Boston where he attended local schools. Following his graduation from East Boston High School, Mr. LaVecchio became employed by Northeast Airlines. At the Outbreak of World War II, he was drafted to the United States Air Force and proudly served the country.

Once discharged, he continued to pursue his education at the Boston University School of Engineering to become a Flight Engineer and also earned his Commercial Pilots License. Following his graduation he had a long and successful career with Delta Airlines as a Commercial Airline Pilot.

He was a longtime member of the Italian Progressive Club of East Boston, where he loved to play Bocce and play cards. He also enjoyed watching the New England sports teams. He loved his home, his family and taking care of his garden.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Melinda LaVecchio and Frank Kelley, Judy Elliott and her husband, Sam, and Angela DiRuzza and her husband, Michael, all of Salem; a sister, Anna DiGirolamo of Peabody; and two granddaughters, Christina and Melissa DiRuzza of Salem.
