News with the passing of RNPA member retired Northwest pilot Captain R. Blair Smith has reached us.  Friends write that Captain Smith joined Northwest Airlines in 1968 and was based Anchorage at the time of his retirement.  Memorial Services for Captain Smith will be held Saturday, March 26th in Arizona.  Graveside services will be held March 31st in Alaska.....please see information below. 
Survived by his wife Krikitt personal condolences may be sent to the family at

Obituary ......................... R. Blair Smith (1945 - 2016)

R. Blair Smith died peacefully surrounded by family in Chandler, AZ on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the age of 70.
 
Blair is survived by his wife, Krikitt Smith, his children, Sonya Smith, Jared Smith, Jolyn Smith, Jacob Smith, Travis Smith, Wayne Humbert and Stephen Zazilenski, and siblings, Samuel Smith, Mary Martinez, R Brent Smith and Larry Smith. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Blair is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ila Smith, and his brother, Vern Smith
 
Blair was born on June 30, 1945 in Rexburg, Idaho. He was an airline pilot for 36 years achieving the rank of 747 Captain for Northwest Airlines (now Delta).  He met and married his wife of 20 years in Wasilla, Alaska.  As a young man he served a mission for the LDS church in Uruguay and Paraguay, and later in life, he served a second mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Palmer, Alaska. His passions included hunting and fishing, as well as, building and flying light aircraft. He wrote five books and many poems; two of his books were published and are available on Amazon. He enjoyed making wooden ink pens in his spare time, and loved sharing that hobby with his children and grandchildren. He had an adventurous spirit and unflagging sense of humor and taught his family to live well and love life.
 
Blair will be remembered in a service on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the LDS Chapel at 18550 E. Riggs Rd., Queen Creek, AZ, 85142.  There will be a viewing at 9:00 AM and a memorial service at 10:00 AM.  A graveside service and burial will take place in Anchorage, AK at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 1:30 PM. There will be a memorial service in Wasilla, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his honor to the Boy Scouts of America.

Sunday night, March 13, R. Blair Smith passed away in Queen Creek, AZ.  He had been declining for some time.  Blair was hired by Northwest Airlines on 9/23/68 and retired as a 747 Captain in Anchorage.  Further details of his life will be published later.
His services will be Saturday, March 26 at the LDS Chapel, 18550 Ridge Road, Queen Creek, AZ 85142.  Viewing will begin at 9 A.M., and the service will begin at 10 A.M. 
Blair's remains will be flown to Anchorage, Alaska, for interment, but there are no details on that now........................
