Obituary......................... Stephen Michael Kelly
Steve Kelly, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Chelsea, Michigan.
He was born November 17, 1949, at Crawfordsville, to Bill and Wanda (Jones) Kelly. He married the love of his life, Vicky Robinson on Aug. 24, 1974.
Steve had a passion for flying and pursued this while he was in college at Indiana University in Bloomington. He learned to fly by washing airplanes at a regional airport to get flying lessons. After graduating with a degree in Business, he flew corporate jets for Inland Container and Wendy's and eventually flew commercial jets as a pilot and a captain for what became Northwest Airlines. He retired from flying in 2005.
He also had a love for farming and grew up helping out on his grandparent's farm in Crawfordsville. This inspired him to buy a farm in Manchester, Michigan, in 1995 where he lived until his passing.
Steve was energetic person with a great sense of humor and a generous nature who loved meeting new people whether it was through farming or his other passion of riding motorcycles. He would ride with friends and rode with his father and brother when he was in high school.
He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the NRA and enjoyed collecting guns and reading. He was also recently invited to join the Quiet Bird-man, a private pilots association and was very excited to be pinned with his wings in December.
Steve is survived by his wife; his children, James and Amanda of Michigan; his mother; brother David (Michele), Waxahachie, Texas; sister, Beth Kelly (Joe Rogers) of Atlanta, Georgia; and a niece and nephew, Joy and Michael. Steve is preceded in death by his father.
Family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Services will be held at the funeral home at 3 p.m. with Mike Whitacre officiating. Graveside services to follow at the Oak Hill North Cemetery, Oak Hill Road, Crawfordsville.
