NWA Capt. Bob Sibert Carstensen

WWII veteran, NWA Capt. Bob S. Carstensen
September 28, 1919 ~ October 25, 2017
 
Notification with the passing of RNPA member retired Northwest pilot Captain Bob Sibert Carstensen, age 98.  Captain Carstensen joined Northwest Airlines 08-11-1942 and retired with Northwest in 1979.  Widowed in October 2007 with the passing of his wife Eleanor ‘Ellie’, Captain Carstensen is survived by his daughter, granddaughter and great grandchildren.

Obituary.......................Bob S. Carstensen
Bob S. Carstensen Bob graduated from Ballard High School and attended the University of Washington. He became an Army pilot, volunteering to serve the United Nations rescuing soldiers and civilians. On furlough he married Eleanor Phellps on July, 3, 1942 they were married till her passing in 2007. The constant captain; boating as much a joy as flying. He retired after 30 years with Northwest Airlines. Also a 30 year resident of Hidden Cove, Bainbridge Island. Survived by his only daughter Carol; granddaughter Courtney, and great grandchildren Atticus and Ames.

Eleanor Carstensen, 88 of Bremerton
Dec. 22, 1918 to Oct. 19, 2007
Eleanor B. Carstensen of Bremerton and former 30-year resident of Bainbridge Island, passed away on October 19, 2007. She was 88 years of age. Eleanor was born on December 22, 1918 in Marysville, WA. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1936. On July 3, 1942, Eleanor married Bob S. Carstensen in Ballard, WA. She enjoyed Bowling, Boating, fishing and shopping for anything. Eleanor traveled to Hong Kong and camped in Arizona.
 
Eleanor was preceded in death by sisters, Maryann, Betty and Alice. Eleanor is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob S. Carstensen of Bremerton; daughter, Carol Green of Bremerton; sister, Marge Flagg (Bill) of California; and a granddaughter, Courtney.
 

A reception celebrating Eleanor's life will be held at Lewis Chapel on Monday, October 29th, at 1 p.m. An online memorial can be seen at www.lewischapel.com.
