WA/DL Captain James Edward Williams

~ IN MEMORY ~
WA/DL Captain James Edward Williams
November 3, 1932 ~ February 24, 2020

Word has reached our group with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Jim Williams, age 87.  From what I can determine, Jim was born/raised in Texas to parents Dossie and Addie Deeds Williams.  Captain Williams joined Western Airlines 05-01-1962 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1992, based Los Angles at time of retirement.  He is survived by his longtime companion Elly plus many dear friends and aviation colleagues.
The funeral home website is located at
(note: funeral home indicates month of birth as August but believe that to be November)
Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Elly MacDonald at
P.O. Box 5175 , Belmont, CA  94002-5175.
Corrections and additional information are always appreciated…..we hope to learn more.
Thank you,
~ Carol for the PCN

Captain James Williams was born in Texas and had 3 brothers and two sisters from what I can recall and his mother and father plus all siblings were deceased before him. Jim served his country in the Korean
war and used his GI Bill for flying lessons. He was hired by Braniff
Airlines and received his flight engineer rating there and was furloughed and was hired by NEA where he flew until furloughed and spent a short period of time with Eastern after that hired by Western Airlines and retired from Delta after the merger. Jim was a civilian trained pilot who flew and was rated on many airplanes in his career.
B-737-200, B-727-200,B757/767, DC-10, L1011 TriStar,and at retirement
MD-11. From what I know Jim had a niece and nephew who he was helping with their collage education. Jim was a Shriner and also volunteered
at a VA hospital for many years. Jim spent many years with Elly his
other , and they travelled the world together taking many cruises through out the years. Captain Jim was well liked and we will miss him. Captain Richard Calarco WAL/DL Retired

  3. Is it the same Captain Williams who used to fly a Tristar between London and Oman in the 1970s ?
