Military veteran, DL Capt. Charles E. Wetherell Jr.

August 14, 1938 ~ August 21, 2020

 


Notification with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Charles Elton Wetherell Jr., age 82.  Captain Wetherell joined Delta Air Lines 07-19-1965 and retired with Delta, was based DFW then LAX/030 at the time of his retirement.   He is survived by his wife Paula plus many more dear family members and friends.

Obituary……………..

Charles E. Wetherell, Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away on August 21, 2020. He was born August 14, 1938 in Berkeley, California, to Helen and Charles Wetherell and moved to Fort Dick, California when he was 6. Chuck/Charlie was raised on the Wetherell family dairy ranch in northern California.

 

Chuck is survived by his wife, Paula, of Cheyenne; two daughters, Jennifer Shinn (Gerik) of Mount Vernon, Washington and Mary Wetherell of Medford, Oregon and three step-children: Kimberley (Dr. Robert) Marshall of Wheatland, Wyoming, Terri Hartness of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Glen Hartness of Round Rock, Texas. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Harry (Vernadine) Wetherell of Gasquet, California his sister, Helen Wetherell of Colville, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

After graduating from Del Norte High School in Crescent City, California, Chuck attended Menlo Junior College. He received an Associate Degree before entering the United States Navy as a pilot flying on aircraft carriers from 1960 – 1965. He then went to work as a pilot for Delta Airlines retiring after 32 years. Chuck spent many of those years based at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and lived in Weatherford, Texas. There he had the pleasure of being a member of the Parker County Sheriff's Posse for many years and serving a year as rodeo chairman.

 

Chuck loved camping, hunting, skiing, and fishing, but his true love was being on his boat, Aquila, cruising around the San Juan Islands, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska.

 

A memorial gathering took place at Lakeview Chapel in Cheyenne, Wyoming on August 28, 2020 with another one to be held later in Fort Dick, California.
