NWA Captain Douglas Alan Holtan

April 22, 1943 ~ October 16, 2022

From the RNPA group we learn of the passing of retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain Douglas Alan 'Doug' Holtan, age 79.  Captain Holtan joined Northwest Airlines 03-15-1965.  Widowed just one year ago, Doug is survived by his children and their families.

OBITUARY : Holtan, Douglas (Doug) Alan 79 died on October 16, 2022. Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Doug attended Washburn High School, class of '61, later moving to a home on Forest Lake. He was generous, kind, honest, and fun-loving. Captain Holtan was a career NWA pilot from March 1965 to April 2003. He enjoyed investing, fishing, the BWCA, and spending time and traveling with his wife, family, and friends. His passion for nature was passed on to all his children/ grandchildren. You could always find him up for a late night chat, cleaning the kitchen, and puttering around the house. He loved the simple things. Doug was preceded in death in 2021 by beloved wife Gail (Solberg) Holtan, parents Chester Hanley and Gladys V. (Lynn) Holtan, brother Lynn "Skip" Holtan. Doug is survived by daughters Tracy Holtan, Katie (Holtan) Philippi (Chris); brother Mark Holtan; grandchildren Dominik Ellena (Hadley), Savanna Ellena, Tori Philippi, Maggie Philippi, Isabella McCormick, Riley Philippi, and great-granddaughter Ivy Ellena. wife : Gail Kathryn Holtan

March 21, 1944 ~ October 7, 2021

Holtan, Gail Kathryn (Solberg) Skier, biker (Tuesday biking group), sailor, traveler, member of the National Ski Patrol for 40 yrs, volunteer wedding coordinator at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake for 18 yrs, and an avid bridge player. Gail had many circles of cherished friends. If you ever received a highlighted article from Gail, you knew she truly cared for you. Gail passed away on Oct 7, 2021 at age 77. Preceded in death by parents R. Bernard and Ethel (Saari) Solberg. Survived by beloved husband of 57 years, Douglas Holtan; children Tracy Holtan, Katie (Holtan) Philippi (Chris Philippi): sister Berdine (Solberg) Lakotas; brothers Orris Solberg, Roger Solberg: grandchildren Dominik Ellena, Savanna Ellena, Tori Philippi, Maggie Philippi, Isabella McCormick and Riley Philippi…………..
