Notice of passing…..retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain David Frederick Humphrey, age 85.  Captain Humphrey joined Delta Air Lines 09-03-1968 and was based Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife Sheila, and by his children and their children’s families.

Obituary : David F. Humphrey, age 85, of Clarkesville, Georgia went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 17, 2023.

 

Mr. Humphrey was born on August 31, 1937 in Upstate New York to the late David P. and Katherine Follet Humphrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Humphrey and Donald Humphrey.

 

Mr. Humphrey earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Clarkson College, in Potsdam, New York. After college, he worked for Western Electric on the DEW line in Alaska for four years. He continued his career in the airline industry where he retired as a Captain from Delta Airlines with over 30 years of dedicated service. David was brilliant with his restoration of tractors and passionate about all things nature including fishing, hunting, and hiking. Along with his wife, Sheila, he volunteered his knowledge and skills as a Certified Fly Fishing Instructor throughout North Georgia. He was a devoted, loyal, loving husband to his beloved wife, Sheila with whom he spent the best 30 years of his life.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Sheila McGee Humphrey, of the home; sons, George Humphrey, of Tennessee; John Humphrey, of New York; daughters by marriage, Tara Ward, of Alabama; Jill Sullivan, of Georgia; brothers, Ronald Humphrey, of New York; Robert Humphrey, of Florida; sisters, Peggy Morgan, of Florida; Kathy Queen, of New York; grandchildren, Brett Mixon, of Wisconsin; Courtney Ward, of Georgia; Kaylie Raines, of Alabama; Elena Torres, of Georgia; and four great-granddaughters.

 

Mr. Humphrey's wishes were to be cremated and the family will have a private celebration of his life.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made in David's honor to Tunnels to Towers.
