Judy (Wooten) Harris, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away March 12, 2024 on her 79th birthday.

She was born in Cullman, Alabama, to Ruth and Loyd Wooten, who moved from Atlanta to Merritt Island in the '50s to work on the booming space program. In 1963, she graduated from Cocoa High (now Rockledge High). After graduation from the University of Florida with a degree in journalism, she moved to San Francisco to work.

In 1969, she married Tyree Harris (Cocoa High School 1961), at that time an Air Force fighter pilot.

For many years they lived in Atlanta, where she earned her M.A. in family counseling from Georgia State University. There they raised their son, while Ty worked as a pilot for Delta Air Lines. Judy's counseling work at Parkwood Hospital was complemented by her volunteer work in hospice facilities.

Upon retirement, they returned to live on Merritt Island, reuniting with family and many old friends. Judy quickly returned to her professional work, earning "Most Valuable Employee" awards several times at a women's shelter. These years were the most satisfying of her work life.

In 2022, they moved to Charleston in order to be closer to their son and his growing family.

Friendliness, honesty, and a huge and open heart are the traits she is remembered for.

Judy is survived by Ty, her husband of fifty-five years, their son Tyree Harris, Jr., his wife Yana, and her grandchildren Ethan and Ayla.

In addition, her survivors are Ty's siblings, Dr. Sharon Muret-Wagstaff of Atlanta; Bruce Harris (Jan) of Austin, Texas; Dr. Sally Sange (Michael) of Merritt Island; and Judy's cousin Paul Cole of Hanceville, Alabama, along with several cousins in north Georgia.
