Dean Monteith Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Dean Loftin Monteith announces his passing on December 5, 2024, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at the age of 83.

Dean was born January 8, 1941, in Cando, North Dakota, to Roland and Lucille Monteith. After graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1959, he went on to NDSU, graduating and receiving a commission in the United States Air Force in 1963.

Dean's aviation career spanned nearly 40 years-first as a KC-135 tanker pilot in the Air Force, then as a pilot for Northwest Airlines, and as transport pilot in the Minnesota Air National Guard, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. For several years he owned and operated two coffee shops in Minneapolis with his wife Gail.

Dean was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing on courses all over the world. After retirement he flew radio-controlled airplanes and spent many years traveling around the country in his motorhome. He also restored and often drove a 1967 Plymouth Fury convertible which he had owned since it was new.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Gail (2011), his sister-in-law Gloria (2009), his brother Larry (2012), and his brother Gerald (2020). He is survived by his wife Linda, his daughter Jill Williams (Michael), his daughter Jennifer Monteith, his sister Jeanne Lindsay (Bruce), his sister-in-law Margaret Monteith, and six grandchildren-Matthew, Grace, Hannah, Ethan, Eli, and Henri. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
