PNA/WAL Capt. Peter ‘Pete’ Carruthers

October 9, 1917 ~ May 14, 2013 

Born/raised in the San Francisco area, Pete was the 2nd of four children born to Charles Peter and Edith Annabelle Vail Carruthers.  From what I could find, Pete received his early pilot training from the Boeing School of Aeronautics located at Oakland Municipal Airport, circa 1935-1937.   At some point, Pete flew for Mid-Continent Airlines up until 1952 when Mid-Continent merged with Braniff, and was based MSP.  Captain Carruthers hired on with Pacific Northern Airlines  05-01-1953 and retired with Western Airlines at the mandatory age 60 in 1977.  He was based SEA, then SFO at the time of his retirement with Western.
