Notice of passing….retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Jon Lewis Geerlings, age 81.  Captain Geerlings joined Delta Air Lines 01-09-1969 and retired July 1997 based 030/ATL.  Widowed in 2018 with the passing of his wife Lou, Captain Geerlings is survived by his children and his grand- and greatgrandchildren.

Obituary :

Captain Jon Geerlings, 81 of Macon, GA, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022, at Peachtree City Christian Church, Peachtree City, GA, officiated by Dr. George S. Dillard, III. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens.

 

Son of the late Lewis Jennings Geerlings and Marion O. Rock Geerlings, Jon was a graduate of the Shelbyville Illinois High School. He participated on the football and track teams and was an avid trumpet player.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University.  After college, he served as a pilot in the USAF, and later, retired from Delta Air Lines in 1997.  Mr. Geerlings was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon. 

 

Mr. Geerlings enjoyed family, golf, boating, listening to Johnny Cash, and Big Band music.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Geerlings was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Evans Geerlings and sister, Carol Wilcox.

 

Mr. Geerlings is survived by his children, Greg Geerlings (Cathi), Bryan Geerlings (Susan), and Ann Muscolino (Chris); grandchildren, Jessica (Fletcher), Cady (Connor), Claire, Spencer (Gabriela), Harrison (Ally), Chandler, Nicholas, and Josh; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Hiram, and Hudson.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road Macon, GA 31210.

 

Hart’s at the Cupola, Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center, 6324 Peake Rd, Macon, GA 31210 has charge of the arrangements.

Lou Geerlings

August 16, 1941 ~ July 28, 2018 (age 76)

Lou Geerlings, 76, of Macon passed away in her sleep on July 28, 2018. She succumbed to brain cancer after its sudden onset and a short, four-week period. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends at 10AM until 12:00 PM at the Grande Ballroom at Carlyle Place. Interment will be at 4:30 PM at Westminster Memorial Gardens, 2090 Highway 54, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210.

 

Mrs. Geerlings was born in Illinois and spent most of her life in Georgia, and a few years in South Carolina and Massachusetts. She worked as a school teacher in Fayette County and at The Heritage School in Newnan. She also worked for the Fayette State Bank and three prominent home builders in Peachtree City. She had a passion as a Master Gardner. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church, and her current church was Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon.
