Notification of the passing of Marine Corps veteran and and retired DL pilot Captain ‘Tru’ Pollard, age 79. Captain Pollard hired on with Delta 07-25-1960 and retired at the mandatory age 60 in 1993, based DFW. It was just eight months ago that Tru’s wife Nancy passed away due complications of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, the same illness that Tru was diagnosed with.

Life Story:

POLLARD, PEARSON T. went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2013. Tru was born June 17, 1933 in Waskom, Texas and graduated from N.T.S.U. in 1955. Afterward he entered the Marine Corps, was commissioned 2nd Lt, and spent time flying both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. After his a 4 year stint in the Marines, Tru found temporary employment flying offshore to oil rigs in the Gulf and ultimately was hired by Delta Airlines 1960. What a blessing, not only his dream job but also the opportunity to meet and marry the love of his life, Nancy Fish. Tru and Nancy settled in Dallas and started their family shortly thereafter.

During a distinguished 33 year career with Delta, Tru flew the DC 6, DC7, DC8, DC9, Convair 440, Boeing 727, and retired in the left seat of the Lockheed L 1011. One of the many highlights of a great flying career was being selected as Captain of the Dallas Cowboys charter during the 1982 season.

Tru retired from Delta in 1993 and started his second career as "Geekie," grandfather to 4 loving grandchildren. Tru and Nancy were both avid and talented golfers and more days than not could be found on the links at Prestonwood Country Club. Inseparable, they traveled extensively, were very active in the lives of their children and grandchildren and in their church, Grace Bible Church of Dallas where Tru served as both Elder and Deacon. The highlight of his life was his relationship with Jesus Chris and through that Tru was blessed beyond comprehension.

A few years ago, Tru and Nancy were both simultaneously diagnosed with the maladies that would end their earthly lives. They saw this as a new opportunity to Glorify God by demonstrating the true meaning of "in sickness and in health" and both succeeded admirably.

Tru is preceded in earthly death by his loving wife Nancy and parents, Pearson and Sara Pollard. He leaves behind to cherish his memory sister, Marion Chandler; daughter, Kelly Foster and her husband, Joe Foster; son, Jeff Pollard and his wife Leigh Pollard; granddaughters, Taylor Foster, Chandler Foster, Hayden Foster, grandson Pearson Pollard; nephews, Joe and Bob Chandler and niece Sara Beal as well as countless friends. A Memorial Service for Tru will be held at Grace Bible Church Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.

"I have received many unearned benefits and have reaped where I did not sow, it is God's Grace and certainly not anything I deserve."

Word has been received of the passing of Nancy Fish Pollard, wife of
retired DL pilot Captain Pearson Trulock ‘Tru’ Pollard. Always
energetic and full of life until her illness, Nancy has fought the
debilitating effects of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis these past two
years. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a scarring or thickening/
stiffening of the lungs, and there is no known cause.
A memorial service is planned for Nancy to be held at Grace Bible
Church in Dallas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4th. Personal

Nearing his 70th birthday, retired WA/DL Captain Nick Castle has passed away due complications of cancer.  Clayton Nichols Castle was born and raised in California. After his military service, Captain Castle hired on with Western 04-25-1972 and retired with Delta at the mandatory age 60 in 2003, based 030/LAX.

Life Story:

Clayton "Nick" Castle passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born in Lindsay, California on April 20, 1943, he lived in Fresno for the last 39 years. He met his wife, Karen Ferrier, in high school and they married in 1966. Nick and Karen were best friends and they always made each other laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Clayton Castle. He is survived by Karen; his four daughters, Holly McCloskey and her husband Forrest, Heidi Steinke and her husband Paul, Stephanie, and Ginger and her fiancé, Adrian Jessop; three grandchildren, Sierra McCloskey, Lindsay Steinke, and Piper Steinke; his sister, Carol Seastrom and her husband Greg; Nick's in-laws, Barbie and Butch Falconer and Rick and Karen Ferrier; two nieces and three nephews. Nick graduated from Lindsay High School in 1961 and Fresno State College in 1965, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Upon his college graduation he became a pilot in the United States Navy. He flew P-3 Orions during the Viet Nam War and was stationed in the Philippines and later Moffett Field. After leaving the Navy, he flew for Western Air Lines and Delta Air Lines for 31 years, retiring in 2003. Nick was a devoted and loving husband, father, and "Papa" to his granddaughters. As his girls were growing up Nick spent many years coaching soccer. Ever the sports fan, he was a loyal supporter of the St. Louis Rams, Fresno State, and later UCLA. He loved skiing, vacationing at Lake Tahoe, pulling water skiers behind his MasterCraft boat, traveling with Karen and his girls, and above all, being with his family. Nick had an unwavering and irrepressible positive outlook on life that he maintained until the very end. His easy-going personality and quick wit endeared him to his family and friends. His humor, compassion, and joy in living will be missed. A Service for Nick will be held at the First Baptist Church, 581 E. Honolulu in Lindsay, California on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Nick's name to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, California 90401.

Hampton, NH – John E. Parsons, 69, of Hampton, died peacefully Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Camden, ME December 11, 1943 a son of the late Charles and Irene (Dentremont) Parsons.

 

John was raised and spent his early adult hood in East Millinocket, ME before moving to Hampton in 1973.

Mr. Parsons was a United States Army veteran who proudly served in the Vietnam War. He later worked for Delta Airlines as an international captain before retiring in 2003.

Family members include his wife of 45 years Duska (Pray) Parsons of Hampton; sons, Kenneth Parsons of Chandler, AZ, Thomas Parsons and his wife Maureen of Chandler, AZ; daughter Deanne Proper and her husband David of Farmington; brother Terry Parsons of Placentia, CA; sister Charlene Klingkert of Twisp, WA; granddaughter Jade Proper of Farmington and several nieces and nephews.

 

At John’s request all services will be private.

John started his flying career in the military and was hired by NEA in 1968. Life Story:

William G. Berringer of Erie, Colorado, joined his heavenly family and Savior Jesus Christ on April 2, 2013, after a lengthy battle with squamous cell carcinoma. 'Bill' was born in Goodland, Kansas, on August 24, 1941, the son of W.W. and Lois M. (Hooper) Berringer. He was a graduate of Goodland High School and a member of the 1959 State Championship basketball team. He attended Colorado State University as a scholarship athlete. Bill played quarterback for the CSU Aggies football team, and he was also a member of the Air Force ROTC detachment. On December 23, 1962, he married Judy Peter of Goodland, Kansas. On December 23, 2012, the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary. After college graduation in 1963, they began a five year tour with the United States Air Force, where William flew C-135s and C-141 Starlifters for the Military Airlift Command. As an Aircraft commander, Bill flew worldwide missions in support of the Vietnam War. He continued serving his country in the Air Force Reserve, and began his airline career flying with Western Airlines, and retiring after thirty-two years as an MD-11 Captain for Delta Airlines. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed elk hunting in the Colorado Rockies and salmon fishing in Alaska with his mother, father, sons and grandchildren. The Kansas ring-necked pheasant was a threatened bird when William was in Sherman County. During the last twenty years, Bill could be seen heading out to hunt tom turkeys northeast of Goodland. The Lake House at Lake McConaughy in Nebraska was the venue for many summer gatherings where he enjoyed time with family and friends. William taught many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends how to waterski. After retirement he played basketball, not only locally, but competed globally in men's Senior Olympic basketball tournaments. He was an active member of Rock Creek Church in Louisville, Colorado. He is survived by his wife Judy Berringer of Erie, Colorado; mother Lois Berringer; sister Judith McClure and her husband JB; sister-in-law Jan Berringer; brother-in-law Ernie Workman, all of Goodland, Kansas; children Robyn Eisenach and her husband Justin of Louisville, Colorado; Todd Berringer and his wife Angie of Erie, Colorado; Brett Berringer and his wife Heidi of Frederick, Colorado; eight grandchildren Courtney Whipps and her husband Nick of Casper, Wyoming; Matthew Eisenach and Ryan Eisenach, both of Fort Collins, Colorado; Triston Berringer, Darby Berringer, and Kalyssa Berringer, all of Erie, Colorado; and Brayden Berringer and Hallie Berringer, both of Frederick, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father W.W. Berringer, identical twin brother Warren Berringer, sister Diane Workman, and nephews Mark McClure and Brook Berringer. The memorial service will be held Saturday, April 13, at 1:00 PM MT, at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, Kansas, with inurnment in the Goodland Cemetery. Teacher Rene Pisel Walker, 49, died April 1 at home in North Douglas of metastatic breast cancer that was first diagnosed in 2005. Rene had been in hospice about two weeks and had typically left instructions for her obituary writer:

"First, I really don't want you to list the people who survive me. I don't like that term, and I don't like to limit them, there are so many more than my immediate family."

(That family includes husband David and children Eliza and Dawson Walker, siblings Elizabeth Davis and Scott Pisel, mother Jan and Bob Van Slyke, and father Gary and Barbara Pisel.)

"I also don't want you to say 'lost her battle with cancer' or 'after a long struggle with cancer.' I live with cancer. It is what it is. It is my life, not some kind of war with myself."

Above all she wanted you to know, "My biggest joy was being a parent to such wonderful kids. Dawson and Eliza make me proud every moment. I'm so pleased they'll go off into the world with their amazing talents and caring personalities. And Davey. Being married to such a kind, patient, loving man has made this all worthwhile."

Rene wanted to change the world for the better and friends agree that she did. She loved teaching kindergarten and first grade students at Gastineau Elementary School. A year ago, when she knew the end was approaching, she did not make a bucket list. She said, "What is it I really want to do? I want an ordinary life with my family and to teach school."

What she didn't say, but her loved ones will tell you, is how beautiful, kind, funny, and frank she was. She lived the way her favorite poet Mary Oliver advised, making sure her life was "particular" and that she was not "simply a visitor" in this world.

She inspired husband David Walker's Wearable Art winner, The Beast in the Beauty, and was his biggest fan, but chose to keep her cancer private.

"It was important to her that people look beyond her disease and see her for the person she was - loving teacher, mother of talented children, loved wife, most-excellent friend, a person who tried to live her life with honesty and integrity and as full of love as it could be," friend Debra Bufton said. "Rene walked into her life and her illness with her eyes wide open. She demanded love, respect, and engagement from everyone, even her many medical practitioners, and was more than willing to extend it right back."

"But don't say I never complained," Rene told her obituary writer. "I hate that. What's with that? I complain all the time. Cancer is so unfair."

Rene Marie Pisel Walker was born July 15, 1963 in Fort Dix, NJ to Gary Pisel and Jan Schwank. Her father was in the Air Force and later became a commercial pilot. She was raised in New Jersey, Minneapolis, and the Seattle area. When her parents divorced she moved with her mother to Missoula, graduating from Hellgate High in 1981. She earned a BA in political science at Lewis and Clarke College. In 1985 she moved to Haines, where she helped run the old 10-Mile Roadhouse. In 1987 she left Haines for a job with Planned Parenthood in Portland. A friend from Haines, carpenter David Walker, came to Portland for a visit and stayed a month. They were married July 14, 1990 at Rainbow Glacier Camp in Haines and settled in Juneau, where Rene spent 13 years as an education specialist and client advocate for AWARE. When their children were in 2nd grade and pre-school the Walkers spent six months camping in Australia. Upon returning to Juneau, Rene earned her teaching credential. She began teaching at Gastineau Elementary School in 2003 and pursued a master's degree at UAS. Of her careers Rene said, "I have now taught two children of teenage women I helped when I worked at AWARE. It's so cool to see them doing great now. I like feeling that I can make a difference."

Rene said her favorite times were, "Camping with family across Australia, trudging across Mud Bay to wonderful friends and the cabin, swimming at Flathead Lake, hiking in Glacier National Park, canoeing the Minnesota Boundary Waters Wilderness, laughing with friends, and enjoying the amazing natural beauty of Alaska." She wanted to be sure to thank "the friends, colleagues, acquaintances, medical professionals and strangers who have been loving and supportive throughout."
