Capt. Jack Fraser Hamlin
May 3, 1938 ~ April 1, 2014

Jack attended Auburn High School

Washington State University and the University of Washington. After graduation from the UW, Jack was employed by Northwest Airlines as a line pilot, flight instructor and Director of Flying/Chief Pilot. He was also active with the Airline Pilots Association as a pilot labor contract negotiator and part of the critical incident response team. Jack retired after 32 years with NW Airlines. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the home he built at Lake Cushman and was very active in the community there. Jack was the consummate erudite; his wit and wisdom will be missed.

Jack is survived by former wife Merrie, daughters Tracie & Paige, brother Donald and loving companion Lynn Waplington.

Word has been received with the passing of retired NWA pilot Captain Jack Fraser Hamlin, age 75.  Captain Hamlin joined Northwest Airlines 10-10-1966 and retired at the mandatory age 60 in 1998.  Jack held the position of Chief Pilot with Northwest based MSP, was former ALPA Council 54 MEC Chairman, and he continued ALPA safety work after his retirement.  

 

Captain Hamlin had resided at 

11315 Ohde Circle, Kirkland  WA 98033-6394 and I believe most recently at

100 N. Clallam Place, Hoodsport  WA 98548-9548.  He is survived by his wife Merrie  (425) 898-9466.

I am saddened to inform our ranks that NWA pilot Jack F. Hamlin passed away on April 01, 2014 after a prolonged illness.  Jack resided in Kirkland, Washington.  He was the former ALPA Council 54 MEC Chairman, NWA MSP Chief Pilot, and continued ALPA safety work after NWA retirement.  Jack was hired by NWA in October of 1966 and Retired in May of 1998.  At this time there are no services planned.

Word has been received with the passing of Yolanda Antoinette neé Payne Anderson, wife of retired WA/DL Captain Robert Anderson.  Captain Anderson joined Western Airlines 02-26-1968 and retired with Delta Air Lines 02-01-1998 as Chief Pilot, based 062/LAX.  Bob and Yolanda were married June 24, 1967 in California.  They are the parents of four children Roderick, Kimberly, Staci, and Roslynn.   Born/raised in Los Angeles, Yolanda was  73 years of age at the time of her passing.

• Mr. DIXON. Mr. Speaker, I rise today with great pleasure to honor and acknowledge Robert E. Anderson for his distinguished career and his contributions to family, community, and nation. On February 1, 1998, Captain Anderson retired from his position as Delta Air Lines Chief Pilot based in Los Angeles, culminating an illustrious career. I thank you Mr. Speaker and esteemed colleagues for joining me in commemorating this occasion.

• Robert Anderson embarked on his path of lifetime achievement in 1955, graduating as valedictorian from Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana. He earned both academic and Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarships to the University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.). Upon graduation from U.C.L.A. in 1960 with a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering, Captain Anderson was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy.

• Captain Anderson served his country in the Navy for five years. After flight training in Pensacola, Florida, and Corpus Cristi, Texas, he was deployed to Vietnam where he patrolled the coast at the controls of a P2V airplane. Following his 1965 Honorable Discharge from active duty in the Navy, Captain Anderson returned to Los Angeles and continued military service until 1972 as a member of the United States Naval Reserve. During this time he was employed by I.B.M. as a systems engineer.

• In 1968, Captain Anderson began his career as a commercial aviator with Western Air Lines. He was the second African-American pilot hired by the airline and began with the rank of Second Officer flying 737s. At Western, Anderson steadily progressed through the ranks. He was promoted to First Officer in 1972 and earned his Captain's wings in 1979. In June of 1980 he made the transition to DC-10s as a First Officer. Also a member of the Air Line Pilot's Association (ALPA) since 1968, Capt. Anderson's colleagues expressed their esteem for him by selecting him to serve as Chairman of ALPA's Grievance Committee for five years.

• Captain Anderson flew 737 and DC-10 jet aircraft for Western until its acquisition by Delta Airlines in 1987. He retained his rank of Captain, flying 727 jets for the carrier. In 1989, Captain Anderson took on additional responsibilities as Line Check Airman; and in 1991 he became an Assistant Chief Pilot based in Los Angeles and in 1996 was promoted to become Delta's first African-American Chief Pilot, a position he held until retirement.

• In addition to his distinguished aviation career, Captain Anderson has been a devoted family man. Robert and Yolanda Anderson are the proud parents of four: Roderick Eldon, Kimberly Mauriere, Staci Larelle, and Roslynn Elise; and the grandparents of young Tyrone Pierce Hinderson, Jr.

• Mr. Speaker, I congratulate Captain Robert Anderson on his service to our nation and on a stellar career in aviation. I ask that you join me in commending and extending our best wishes to him and Yolanda for many years of good health and prosperity.

USAF veteran retired Delta pilot Captain Charles Leroy Atwood has passed away due to medical issues and injuries sustained in a car accident April 1st.  Captain Atwood was 69 years of age at the time of his passing April 9th.  Along with his military service, Captain Atwood joined Delta 02-08-1973 and retired with Delta Air Lines 02-01-2002.  He was based IAH, but for the majority of his career based 030/DFW.  Married April 13, 1968, Charlie and Browne were to celebrate their anniversary Sunday.  Survived by his wife Wanda ‘Browne’ personal condolences may be sent to the family at

Obituary:  Charles ‘Charlie’ Leroy Atwood

Charles L. Atwood, 69, took his greatest flight on April 9, 2014, to meet our Lord in Glory. He was born in Kansas City, Kan., on July 21, 1944.

After completing his bachelor's degree, he served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired in 1991 as a lieutenant colonel. He helped defend our country in every major conflict during his service. He began his career with Delta Air Lines in 1971, and retired as a captain in 2002.

Charles had a true passion for understanding and growing in God's truth. He was a member of the Winnsboro Church of Christ. BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) gave him the opportunity to really dig deep into his study of the Bible. He was in a leadership role in both Tyler and Longview after being "drug" to his first BSF introductory class in 1992 by his loving wife, Browne. These experiences helped fuel his bright flame for serving Christ and witnessing to others, as we are called to do.

Charles moved his family from the "big city" of Houston, to an over-privileged horse farm about seven miles north of Quitman, where he and his wife, Browne, resided ever since.

He is survived by son, Hayes Atwood, his wife, Kelley, and their children, Megan and Nate Atwood, of Maumelle, Ark.; and daughter, Ashlea Wupperman, her husband, Dr. Patrick, and their children, Grant, Ella Browne and Gavin Hayes Wupperman, of Tyler; along with his sisters, Sally Barnes, Aurora, Colo., and Julie Harrington, Centerpoint, N.Y.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Beaty Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Services are 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Winnsboro Church of Christ. Interment is Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 1 p.m. in White Chapel Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

News with the passing of USAF veteran and early Northeast pilot Richard ‘Dick’ Davis Eaton has been received.  F/O Eaton joined Northeast Airlines 06-23-1952.  In January 1953 he was accepted for Cadet Training at Samson Air Force base.  In 1960 he moved on and pursued his career as a travel consultant.  Mr. Eaton had most recently resided in Greenfield NH.

Richard Davis Eaton, 81, died at Monadnock Community Hospital, on April 8, 2014, after a period of failing health. Richard was born in Framingham, Mass. on April 22, 1932, the son of Maxwell Parmenter Eaton and Ruth Evelyn (Davis) Eaton. Richard and his family had been long time residents and seasonal residents on Sunset Lake in Greenfield.

 

Richard attended Wayside Inn Schools in Sudbury, Mass., a school sponsored by Henry Ford. He graduated from Sudbury High School in 1950 and attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana until 1951. During and after high school he went to East Coast Aero Tech in Bedford, Mass. where he obtained his private pilot's license, commercial license and instrumental rating.

 

He was First Officer/Co Pilot for Northeast Airlines out of Boston from 1952 until 1960. He took fifteen months leave of absence to serve as aviation cadet in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Richard worked as a travel consultant for Harvard Travel Service in Cambridge from 1961 until 1986. During this time he traveled extensively throughout Europe, taking 36 trips to the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, Asia and all over the United States. He later worked as a travel consultant for Travel New Horizons in Peterborough from 1986 until 2008.

 

Richard was a parishioner of All Saints Episcopal Church in Peterborough.

 

Richard is survived by numerous cousins and close friends.

 

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 51 Concord Street, Peterborough. A private burial will take place at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made in Richard's name to All Saints Episcopal Church, 51 Concord Street, Peterborough, N.H. 03458 or Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, N.H. 03446.

Notification with the passing of Vietnam war veteran, jet flight instructor and retired pilot Captain Charles “Charlie” William Wagner, age 73.  I believe Captain Wagner joined National Airlines 10-20-1969.  He made the mergers with Pan American and Delta, retiring with Delta Air Lines in 2000 at the mandatory age 60, based 030/CVG.  Captain Wagner was returning home from an aviation event on Saturday evening when he lost his life due to an aircraft accident.   More information regarding the incident may be found online at  http://www.wsaz.com/home/headlines/One-Dead-Following-Plane-Crash-in-Athens-County-Ohio-254058711.html

Charles “Charlie” William Wagner, 73, of Glouster, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Albany.  He was born June 19, 1940 in Wintersville, son of the late William K. and Freda Clair Carper Wagner.

Charles went to school at Amesville High School and graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.  Charles was an Officer in the United States Navy and served honorably as a pilot in the Vietnam War.  He was given numerous commendations and acknowledgements for his skills as an aviator and jet flight instructor.  He went on to fly for National, Pan American and Delta Airlines.  In 31 years of service and over a million miles flown, Captain Charlie Wagner safely delivered his passengers to their friends and family around the world.   He retired with distinction from the commercial airline industry in 2001 to return to his beloved farm.  From the day he hung up his Captain’s hat, he worked tirelessly on his farm growing crops and caring for his animals.  He continued to fly for the pure joy of it in his Bellanca SuperViking.  On April 5th, Charlie lost his life maneuvering his malfunctioning aircraft to an unpopulated area.  Even during this last flight, he maintained his impeccable flying record, protecting people and property on the ground.

He left this earth doing what he loved most.

Charles is survived by his son, Kevin (Susanne) Wagner of Atlanta, GA.; daughter, Kellee Wagner of Atlanta, GA.; precious grandchildren, Jenna and Jackie Wagner; sisters, Deborah Keirns of Glouster and Betty Wells of McConnelsville; nephew, Brent (Carol) Poches; great-nephew, Josh Poches and his dear friend and companion, Frances Long of Glouster. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main St., Glouster with Steve Hays officiating.  Interment will take place at the Wagner Family Cemetery, Glouster where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Friday, from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
