Belated notice, and as noted in the October 2016 Air Line Pilot's In Memoriam column, the passing of Delta Captain James Edward Davenport, Jr., age 66.  Captain Davenport's obituary indicates he first flew commercially for Braniff, then joined Northwest Airlines 01-10-1986.  (Note:  the obituary reads he passed Tuesday, April 16, but Tuesday fell on April 12th so I believe that to be the correct date...CF)

Obituary...........................
James E. Davenport, Jr., 66, of Argyle, Texas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 16, 2016, at the Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound after his 6-year battle with lung cancer. He was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, to James and Naomi Davenport and lived an adventurous life all over the United States, finally residing the last 26 years in Argyle, Texas, a place he was delighted to call home.

 

 He is survived by his mother, Naomi Coit Davenport, his loving wife of 39 years and best friend, Judy (Carr) Davenport, and his brother, Robert, and his wife, Cheryl Davenport; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and caring friends.

 

 He was extremely loving and proud of his daughter, Emily Davenport, of Argyle, son, Adam, and wife, Kristin Davenport, of Spring, Texas, and son, Sam Davenport, of Houston, Texas. And he beamed with joy over his grandchildren, Hayden (6), Parker (3), and Aspen Davenport (4 months). He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend of all.

 

 He was preceded in death by brothers, David Lyle and Larry Ray Davenport, grandparents, Lyle and Erma Coit, Elmer and Nova Davenport, and father James E. Davenport.

 

 Jim loved life from day one. He lived the life every boy dreamed of growing up with summers on the farm with his grandparents, playing football in high school, and most of all being a Longhorn fan--"Hook 'em Horns"!! He graduated from Churchill High School in San Antonio and went on to get his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and then completed his master's in business management from the University of Southern California. He was a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force Reserves for 23 years, and served in Desert Storm. He was proud to be an American and serve his country. He flew as a commercial airline pilot for Braniff and Northwest Airlines, which later became Delta Airlines. He retired to live the "good life" in October 2009. He continued his tradition of golfing with his Air Force buddies every October at Myrtle Beach and looked forward to that annually. Following his retirement he traveled with his wife to Niagara Falls, California to visit family, went on cruises, and attended many wedding festivities of both friends and family. He loved cheering on the Texas Rangers as he hoped for a World Series title and always continued to root for the Texas Longhorns no matter what sport it was. He supported his children in all their activities and achievements and could not wait to brag about them. Most of all his eyes lit up every time he saw his grandchildren and heard them call him "Papap."

 

 He had the opportunity to deepen his walk with the Lord over the last six years and did that best by being a living example of what God expects of His children. He was not without fault or sin, and would be the first to admit that, but strived to follow the Lord's plan for him and influence other's to give their life to God as well.

 

 The family would like to invite everyone to come celebrate his life at a memorial being held at Argyle United Methodist Church on April 16, 2016, at 11:00 a.m.

 

 In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family would appreciate it if donations were given to the cancer organization, Infinity and Beyond. This organization was inspired and created 5 years ago by Jim's fight against cancer, and as a family it will be transformed into a memorial fund to continue helping others in their fight against this disease.

Obituary....................

ROGER SCOTT of West Ossipee NH - Roger Eugene Scott, 86 passed away peacefully October 30.

He was born May 21, 1930 in Van Wert, Ohio to the late Francis and Pearl (Tomlinson) Scott as the sixth of seven children. 

While in high school, he worked at a shoe shine parlor earning money to learn how to fly. Soon after graduating the Van Wert High School, he joined the Air Force and became a radio operator in a B-29 sending morse code messages.  He was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class from Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX in 1954. 

He met his wife, Ann Rosenbach, and was married on September 3, 1955. 

His career started with Northeast Airlines in 1958 as a co-pilot and then to be a captain. After Delta Air Lines purchased Northeast Airlines in 1972, he became a check airman.  In 1985, he became the Assistant Chief Pilot in Boston and then to be the Chief Pilot opening up the pilot base in Cincinnati, retiring in June 1990, at age 60.  Soon after he was chosen to be Vice President of Flight Operations for Pan American World Airways but the courts would not allow Pan Am to continue.  He then flew for a charter company in Lawrence, MA for 10 years.  Then in 2002, 2003, 2004 he flew a fire expert over forest fires in Pocatello, ID.  He loved flying his amphibian airplane or a favorite two seat tail dragger, the Swift.  He also liked fishing, hunting and skiing. 

He loved and was loved by his family leaving his wife of 61 years, Ann, his younger brother Stanley, daughters Toni Scott, Tina Scott, Melissa Mckeagney and husband , Dave, a son Gregory and wife Alicia, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Calling Hours will be 5-7 PM Sunday November 6 at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro, NH. 

Services will be 10:30 AM Monday November 7 at the Funeral Home followed by burial at 1:00 PM at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.

NWA Capt. Barry D. Broxson

News has reached us with the passing of RNPA member retired Northwest pilot Captain Barry David Broxson, age 77.  Captain Broxson joined Northwest Airlines 11-06-1967 and retired in 1999.  He was widowed in December 2015 with the passing of his wife Judith 'Judy'.

Obituary.................Barry David Broxson
Barry D. Broxson, 77, passed away August 31, 2016 in Auburn, WA. He was born in Seattle February 24, 1939 to parents Howard and Lois Broxson, long time residents of Maple Valley.  He attended Tahoma High School, graduating in 1957 and in 1961 graduated from CWC in Ellensburg.  On August 19, 1961 he married the love of his life Judith Nyseth of Kent, WA.

Barry joined the Air Force and with his wife, moved to Lubbock, Texas to take his flight training. Barry was then off to Beale Air Force Base in California where he flew KC-135’s as a Captain participating in the SR-71 program at the Strategic Air Command.  During his time in the Air Force, Barry and Judy had two beautiful children, Jeff and Lisa.  After five years with the Air Force he began flying for North West Airlines rising to the rank of Captain and flying 747-400’s.

After 33 years with NWA, Barry retired in 1999.  Barry enjoyed restoring old cars, remodeling the house, working in the yard and was an active member of the Sons of Norway in Auburn.  Judy passed away on December 6, 2015 after 54 years of marriage. Barry is survived by his son Jeff and wife Renee, of Mill Creek and his daughter Lisa and husband David Dal Molin, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was a very caring and gracious man.  He is dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all of us.

Longtime Kent resident Judith Oliene Broxson, 73, passed away December 6, 2015. She was born February 23, 1942. Raised in Kent, she graduated from Kent-Meridian High School in 1960 and attended Central Washington College for one year. Judith and Barry were married for 54 years. Judy is survived by her husband Barry Broxson; son Jeff (Renee) Broxson; daughter Lisa (David) Dal Molin; and Brother John Nyseth. NWA pilot Barry Broxson passed away on August 31, 2016 in Auburn, Washington. His extended family were longtime residents of nearby Maple Valley were Barry grew up. He served in the USAF and for 33 years with NWA. His lifetime partner and wife preceded him and passed away on December 13, 2015. Barry is survived by his son Jeff and daughter Lisa. He was a very caring and gracious man; and a fine aviator to boot.

Word has been received with the passing of RNPA member retired Northwest pilot Captain Joseph M. Sutila, age 77.  He is survived by his wife Patricia 'Pat', their children and grandchildren.  Captain Sutila joined Northwest Airlines 11-06-1967 and retired in 1998.

Obituary for Joseph M. Sutila......................
Born December 5, 1938 in New Haven, CT to parents Joseph and Mary Sutila. Graduate of Hamden High School 1956, where he played Football, Baseball and Basketball. Graduate of the University of Connecticut in 1961 with a BA in Geology and Geography. Joe was a member of the Varsity Squash Team. He was a member of the Air Force ROTC and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation. After graduation he attended Air Force Pilot Training at Reese AFB in Lubbock, TX. Upon completion he was selected to fly the F-102A and completed training at Perrin AFB in Sherman, TX. He then was assigned to Truax Field in Madison, WI from 1963-65. His next assignment was at Clark AFB in the Philippine Islands with the 405th Fighter Wing deploying regularly to North Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam War. He completed his Air Force Service in 1967. During his Air Force career, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Joe was hired by Northwest Airlines in the fall of 1967 in Minneapolis, MN. Joe flew for 32 years on the B-707, B-727, and DC-10. He retired a DC-10 Captain at the age of 60. At Northwest he served as an Instructor on the DC-10 in his final years at Northwest. Joe quietly departed this life on Monday, October 24, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Married to Pat Sutila. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Mary Sutila. Survived by sister, Emily Coppola; two children, Donna (Mike) Nord and Craig (Sharon) Sutila; four grandchildren, Tyler, Mitch, Alex and Tesla and two great-grandchildren, Jace and Harlyn Nord. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Monday, October 31st at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. Sadly, retired DC-10 Captain Joe Sutila passed away 10/24/16.  Visitation will be held 10/30/16, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Washburn McReavy funeral home, 7625 Mitchell Rd., Eden Prairie, MN.  Visitation will also be held 10/31/16 from 0930 to 1030 followed by 1030 funeral mass at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN.  A light lunch will be served following the church service.  The funeral procession will depart the church at 1345 for internment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Obituary for Arthur Lyle Thrall

Lyle Thrall (1923-2016) passed away October 16, age 93, after suffering several strokes, starting in 2008.  He had been in nursing care for almost 4 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Stone Thrall. (Dottie) And three daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Claar, Polly Thrall, and Barbara Thrall, her husband, Russ Pfeiffer.  There are grandchildren Josh and Jacquie Claar,  Sanna and Matt Dyhre, Danae and John Thiel, Neil and Hannah Woods.  Great Grandchildren Adera and Waylon Thiel, Charlee and Ruby Dyhre, Rex and Harrison Claar. Also nephews and nieces, and cousins.

Lyle grew up in Tacoma, WA and Gig Harbor, WA and graduated from Gig Harbor Union High School with honors.  He went to work at the Bremerton Navy Yard as a machinist to earn money for college.  When the war started, he was required to stay at the job there until in 1943, he was released and joined the Army Air Force cadet program.  He had almost reached graduation when the war ended and he was honorably discharged.  He went on to St Louis University, Parks College, and graduated in 1950 with degree in Aeronautical Engineering.  He had accrued many flying hours while in school.  The Air Force called him back during the Korean War and he served in Japan during that service.  After the war, he applied with Northwest Airlines and took a job in the hangar while he waited for an opening.  Finally, in 1953 he began pilot training.  During his years with NWA, he flew almost every aircraft from DC-3 to 747.  He loved his years flying, and the people he worked with. 

In 1958 in Crew Schedules he met his future wife, Dottie Stone, and they were married February 14, 1959.  They had 57 years together, raising their family, traveling with dear friends Gene and Barbara Brockett, boating with them and yacht club friends.  After boating years, a motorhome was bought and they traveled the US, Canada and Mexico.

There will be no service now but at a later time, his ashes will be in the Puget Sound that he grew up loving and boating on.
