Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain David William Cory, age 79.  Captain Cory joined Delta Air Lines 11-16-1964 and retired in 1998, based 030/LAX.  He is survived by his wife Beverly.

David William Cory, age 79, passed away in his home on 23 December 2017. Dave was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, 25 June 1938 to William Alvin Cory and Barbara Billin Cory.

 

Dave was gifted in the field of electronics particularly radio engineering. He was only six when he started working with electricity and then in radio electronics upon entering high school. When in high school, he set up a recording/broadcast studio in the basement of their home while also working as a part-time engineer for the local radio station WMOH. His love of recording was augmented by his love of music. Dave had a perfect pitch. He enjoyed playing the bass in a jazz band through college.

 

Upon earning his masters’ degree in engineering with an emphasis in telecommunications, Dave was hired by Delta Airlines as a telecommunications engineer in 1964. He was fascinated with flying and his focus quickly changed to becoming a pilot. He served as a pilot flying about 12 different aircraft over 33 years before retiring in 1998. Flying was truly the joy of his life. He loved being the Captain of the L-1011 TriStar, flying it between LAX and Honolulu for the final 14 years. Delta Airlines also utilized Dave’s expertise with accident investigation analyses.

 

Starting in the 1970’s, Dave provided volunteer assistance to the local Fire and Police Departments. This service continued through 2014, with support to the Ivins, Utah Fire Department.

 

Upon retirement from the airlines, Dave went back to his telecommunications skills. He became the chief engineer for Cherry Creek Radio in St. George, Utah, retiring in 2013.

 

Dave is survived by his wife, Beverly Robinson Cory of St. George, UT, brother Charles Evan Cory of Colorado, and his step-son Josh Krason (Kirsten) of South Jordan, Utah.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Dave will be buried in Frankfurt, Ohio, near his father and grandfather.

Notification with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Alexander John Morrison, age 89.  Captain Morrison joined Western Airlines 05-01-1957 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1988, based Los Angeles.  Captain Morrison is survived by his wife Sue, their children and grandchildren.

Obituary..................Alexander John Morrison

-- Alexander John Morrison, 89, of San Luis Obispo took off and flew west to rendezvous with his ethereal squadron to trap on a equally ethereal carrier on November 16, 2017. They are assured of blue skies and calm seas for their eternal deployment. Alex was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 9, 1928. Shortly thereafter he and his parents moved from Brooklyn to Radburn, N.J. He attended school in Radburn and Ridgewood N.J. He finished his early schooling attending The Gunnery in Washington, CT, thus making him a certifiable preppie. The next step was studying mechanical engineering at Purdue University. It took three years for Alex to realize he was neither cut out for nor really wanted to be a engineer. About this time, his parents decided to move to California and he joined them. Working for a living became a bit unappealing, so Naval Flight School looked like a good option. He received his Gold wings and a commission in the Marine Corps on September 30, 1952. His first duty was in VMA 211 at Cherry Point, NC for two carrier deployments. He was then sent to Miami, FL for duty with VMA 324 which was preparing for a combat deployment to Korea. They deployed on the U.S.S. Saipan CVL 48 operating out of Japan. At the end of their duty in the Far East, the ship had orders to return to the U.S., via the Suez Canal and Mediterranean Sea making the deployment a Round-The- World cruise. The end of February '55' saw the end of Alex's active Marine Corps duty and also his bachelorhood. Sue Bach and he were married on February 26, 1955. They had a son, Michael, followed by Patricia, and then Laura. Alex and family resided in Palos Verdes, CA until 1974 when they relocated to Park City, UT. While all this was going on, Alex was a design engineer at Douglas Aircraft, and then hired as a pilot for Western Air Lines. This career lasted 31 years and during that time Western merged with Delta Air Lines. He flew for Delta until he retired as a DC-10 captain on November 8, 1988, at the age of 60. At the time of his retirement, he and Sue were living on a small apple farm in Atascadero, CA and after five years of doing agrarian things they were ready for a change. They moved from the farm to a condo in Avila Beach and commuted back and forth to their condo in Park City, UT. This sounded idyllic; however the going back and forth became a nuisance. Both condos were sold and a house in Park City was purchased. The following years were very active years, particularly during the ski season when Alex enjoyed skiing every morning with his buddies. Alex had peripheral neuropathy and eventually his neuropathy worsened to the point that skiing was a thing of the past. A winter of not skiing convinced he and Sue that a warmer climate was in order. They moved to Los Osos to be near their son, Michael and daughter in law, Suzanne. Alex is survived by his wife of 62 years Sue, of San Luis Obispo, CA; son, Michael and daughter in law Suzanne of Los Osos, CA; daughter, Patricia Sterling and son in law Richard of Shelton, Conn.; daughter, Laura Tacheney and son in law Joe of Kamas, UT; grand- daughters: Samantha and Emily; and grandson, AJ; and his dog, Lobo. Many thanks to the caregivers and staff at Garden Creek, Hospice and BrightStar Care for the care and devotion that kept Alex comfortable during his final days. At Alex's request his ashes will be spread on one of the mountains he climbed, and a party in his honor will be held at a later date with bagpipes, good whiskey, and fine wine. To Alex from Sue May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the rain fall soft upon your fields, and the sun shine warm upon your face. Obituary.....................  REGN, BRIAN

Brian Fitzgerald Regn, 56, of Nazareth, gracefully took his last flight home, Monday, Dec. 25, 2017. He was the loving husband of Suzanne Regn for 22 wonderful years.

 

Brian was born Sept. 22, 1961 in New Brunswick, NJ. He was the beloved son of Mary Ellen Regn of Nazareth and Henry Regn of New Albany, PA.

 

Brian graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, of Prescott, AZ, with a degree in aeronautical science. He attained his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot; but unfortunately, due to his illness, he was forced to end his career as a Captain for Delta Airlines, which he was so proud to work for. Following the Sept. 11 attacks, Brian became an armed Federal Flight Deck Officer to defend the cockpit from any potential threats.

 

Brian became involved in Nazareth Borough government in 2012 and was appointed to Nazareth Council in 2014. Brian was the "voice of reason" on Council where he chose his words wisely, with the commitment of a devoted elected official. Most importantly, he brought integrity and dedication to his distinguished Council career while gaining the admiration of all who served with him.

 

Besides his wife and parents, Brian will be greatly missed by his son, Connor Regn, at home; brothers, Todd Regn of Nazareth, Matthew Regn and wife, Betsy, of Havertown, and by his sister, Elizabeth Taylor and husband, Robert, of Bloomsbury, NJ. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Brian will be reunited with his predeceased brother, Andrew Regn.

 

As an avid hunter and outdoorsman, Brian will be sorely missed by his Longview Lodge Gang, where he spent many hunting seasons. Brian's love of adventure and motorcycles led him to meet some meaningful friends he considered his brothers. Together they traveled locally and the country to various motorcycle rallies, building comradeship and forever memories along the way. The many social clubs where he was a member of will greatly miss his infectious personality. As his many dear friends would attest, Brian had the rare ability to make anyone he encountered feel welcomed with his quick wit, incredible humor, and open kind soul. He will be remembered for his remarkable talent, he was a jack of all trades. He would do anything for anyone in need. Being a lifelong NY Giants fan, Brian jokingly requested that players from the team act as pallbearers to "let him down" one last time.

 

Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in the Joseph F. Reichel Funeral Home Inc., of Nazareth. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church, of Nazareth. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery, of Nazareth. Calling hours will be Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

NWA Capt. Dayton Charles Christensen

Obituary..............Dayton C. Christensen   1941–2017

—Dayton C. Christensen, of Clarkdale, AZ, 76, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at his home from pancreatic cancer. Dayton was born in Northfield, MN, on March 15, 1941 to Hans and Irene Christensen. He grew up on the family farm located on Old Dutch Road five miles west of Northfield. Dayton graduated from Northfield High School in 1959 and from St. Olaf College in 1963. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1969 flying B 52 bombers from Minot, ND Air Force Base. Dayton was also a pilot of c130 Hercules aircraft while a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard 133rd Airlift Wing from 1970 to 1984. He joined Northwest Airlines in 1969 and retired as a DC 10 captain based in Honolulu in 2001. Survivors include brother Dennis of Prior Lake, Niece Patti Sloan of Brooklyn Park, Nephew Brad Pfahning of Northfield and cousin Ronald Prinzing of Ogilvie, MN. A memorial service will be held in Cottonwood, AZ in early January. Burial will take place in the spring at the German Union Cemetery in Forest Township of Rice County.

DL Capt. Don Schwenneker

April 21, 1932 ~ December 19, 2017

 

Notification with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Donald Lee Schwenneker, age 85.  Captain Schwenneker joined Delta Air Lines 09-10-1956 and retired with Delta in 1992.  He was based Los Angeles at the time of his retirement.  Captain Schwenneker is survived by his wife Virginia ‘Ginny’ and their son Jon.

Obituary...........................Don Schwenneker.... (1932 - 2017)

Don L. Schwenneker, born April 21, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa, has passed away on December 19, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Before his retirement, Don spent 35 years flying for Delta Airlines. His passions included his family, friends, golf and of course, flying. He definitely believed in living life to the fullest. Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Schwenneker. Also, left to be remembered by is his son, Jon Schwenneker. The family would like to thank Brookdale and Hospice Plus for their dedication in Don's care.
