Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Jon Dee Hansen, age 82.  Captain Hansen joined Delta Air Lines 12-17-1962.  Widowed in July of 2018, Captain Hansen is survived by his children and grandchildren plus many other family members.

Obituary.................HANSEN, Jon Dee

Jon Dee Hansen of Marietta, Georgia passed away on 15 February 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife Deanna Lee Hansen. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mitch and Barbara Hansen, Mike and Karen Hansen, and Mark and Lynn Hansen, his grandchildren and their spouses, Chris Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Alex Hansen and Teri Parker, Baily Tripp, Tori Hansen, Morgan Hansen, Haley and Nick Casey, Savannah and Sam Best, and Guy Hansen, and his great-grandchildren Brailyn Hansen, Emma Tripp, Levi Casey, and Lucas Casey. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in law, Ron and Marilyn Hansen, and his sisters Sandy and Jim (deceased) Cook, and Barbara and Drake Hawkins. He will be missed by all his family including his cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jon was discharged from the Navy in 1962 after serving as a pilot and logging over 250 carrier landings. He retired from Delta Air Lines in 1996 as a L-1011 captain. As a pioneer in the light sport and sport pilot initiative he formed Hansen Air Group to supply light sport aircraft and provide sport pilot training. He was an early supporter of Able Flight (an organization that provides sport pilot training scholarships to people with disabilities). He was a long-time vice president of the Dixie Classic Chevy Club. He participated in aerial surveys to help save the North Atlantic right whale. He was also heavily involved in Greyt Friends, a greyhound rescue organization, founded by his wife Dee. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, 9 March at 1:00 pm at Sanctuary Church in Kennesaw with a reception to follow. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation to Able Flight or Greyhound Health Initiative.

Wife Deanna’s obituary...............

Deanna Lee Hansen of Marietta, Georgia passed away on July 26, 2018. She was born in 1941 to J. Brooke Adam and Virginia (Ginny) Adam. She was dearly loved by Jon, her husband of 58 years, her children and daughters-in-law, Mitch and Barbara Hansen, Mike and Karen Hansen, and Mark and Lynn Hansen, her grandchildren and their spouses, Chris Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Alex Hansen and Teri Parker, Tori Hansen, Baily Tripp, Morgan Hansen, Guy Hansen, Haley and Nic Casey, Savannah and Sam Best, and her great-grandchildren Brailyn Hansen, Emma Tripp, Levi Casey, and Lucas Casey. She was also dearly loved by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Charlie Ferguson, and Kay and Warren Tesch. She will be missed by all her family including her cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be mourned by all the lives she has touched over the years, including many greyhound friends.

She attended San Diego State University where she studied accounting, but her focus was her family and her greyhounds. She started a non-profit rescue group called Greyt Friends, where she was able to rescue and place hundreds of greyhounds in loving homes. She loved to travel, go on cruises, read, spend time at the cabin on Lake Burton, and the Atlanta Braves......................

Obituary...............Richard 'Dick' Gronning,   1940–2019

Northfield MN  —  Richard "Dick" Gronning of Northfield passed away Thursday, February 21 at the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis after a battle with cancer. He was 78. He is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Sun Wells-Gronning. Dick was the son of Ole Gronning and Violet Maresh of Racine, WI. He attended Washington Park High School class of 1958 and graduated from Carthage College class of 1963. He married Sigrid Stephan in 1963. He attained rank of Captain in the Air Force, serving 1964-1969 (Aircraft Commander of the C-130 Hercules). He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. He moved to Minnesota to be a pilot for Northwest Airlines. Dick had many passions including building Renaissance musical instruments (acclaimed and played by some professionals), discussions of faith, philosophy, and social justice, and researching and advocating for alternative health and environmental solutions. He is survived by his wife, Sigrid, son, Dan and wife, Maria; son, Ari, daughter, Bettina and husband, Sawad, and their daughter, Siri. Dick had a fierce, autodidactic intellect and always believed that with the ability to recognize, conceive, and embrace innovative ideas, anything is possible. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Friday, March 1, 2019, beginning at 11 AM with Reverend Jonathan Davis officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Bierman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in the church. Obituary...............

Berton (Lee) Anderson, 87, passed away on Feb. 17th at St. Croix Health & Rehab Center in New Richmond, WI. Lee was born to Berton and Minnie (Rautiola) Anderson in Hibbing on Nov. 22nd, 1931, spent much of his younger years on his grandparent's farm in Bear River and graduated from Alango High School in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged as rank of S/SGT in 1954. Lee was united in marriage to Alberta aka "Berts" (Doroff) on Jan. 22nd, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook and lived in Cook until moving to Minneapolis in 1959. Lee was employed as an airline pilot. He retired from Northwest Airlines in 1991. After retirement, he continued to train in simulators until 2008. His passion in life was flying and he really enjoyed his old tractors and working on his farm in Bear River.

 

Lee was preceded in death by his parents and Brother: Kenneth. He is survived by his Wife: Bert; Son: Patrick Anderson (Brenda Kroening); Daughter: Deborah (Greg) Freeman; Grandchildren: Jon (Kaycee) Ameter, Lynda Freeman (Matt Olson): Great-Grandchildren: Tenley and Brylee.

DL Capt. Edward J. McHugh Sr.

Notification with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Edward J. McHugh Sr., age 90.  Captain McHugh joined Delta Air Lines 03-05-1956 and retired with Delta in 1988, based Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife Elizabeth ‘Betty’ plus many other friends and dear family members.

Obituary................

Capt. Edward J. McHugh Sr., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at the age of 90. He was born March 7, 1928, to the late Edward Bernard McHugh and May Elizabeth Gilfoy McHugh. He died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family and is now resting with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

 

He was born in Chicago, and served proudly as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Delta Airlines in 1988, after 32 years as an airline pilot. He was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church. He loved sharing stories about his adventures as an airline pilot. He was an avid traveler, whistler, tinkerer and lifelong learner. He was often referred to by his 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as "Gramps the Boss."

 

He is survived by his most beloved wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Healy McHugh; children: Donna (Vernon) Liebert of Dunwoody, Ga., Kathleen (David) Goldstein of Stuart, Fla., Patricia (Gary) Cason of Seneca, S.C., Betty (Timothy) Kelbel of Cincinnati, Ohio, Terri (preceded in death Jerry) Iven of Jenson Beach, Fla., Edward J. (Karen Christina) McHugh Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Timothy P. McHugh of Cleveland, Mary (Blake) Thomas of Johns Creek, Ga., and Michael (Jennifer) McHugh of Stafford, Va.

 

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p..m. Thursday, at Serenity Funeral Home at 3010 N Ocoee St, Cleveland, with a Rosary service beginning at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass celebrating Captain McHugh's life, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 900 Clingan Ridge Drive N.W., Cleveland. Columburial service will follow on the grounds of St. Therese Catholic Church, with military honors concluding the service.

Obituary..............William Shepard Gum 

William Shepard Gum, of Hobe Sound, Florida passed away on February 19, 2019.

Born on December 16, 1940 in West Plaines, MO, Bill was an Eagle Scout in his earlier years, and graduated from Drury University in Springfield, MO with degrees in both Economics and Finance.

 

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he was a pilot for 7 years, and completed 3 tours in the Vietnam War. Later, Bill became a 747 airline pilot for Northwest Airlines, which is now Delta for 30 years.

 

He enjoyed skiing, and boating-both sail and motor yachting. Bill and his wife, Joyce spent many weeks on their boat in the Bahamas.

 

He was an avid reader, a history buff and was always on the quest for further knowledge.

 

Bill is survived by his wife Joyce of 56 years and they renewed their vows 6 years ago aboard a Celebrity Cruise Line. He is also survived by his sister in law, Beverlie Scott of Port Charlotte, FL, and brother and sister in law, Rex and Laurie Linder of Peoria, IL.

 

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 10:00AM-10:30AM with a Memorial Service to begin at 10:30AM at Aycock Funeral Home, Young and Prill Chapel in South Stuart.
