We have sad news to share from Captain Larry Pullen and his family:  “On January 15, 2022, Captain Pullen's wife of 40 years, Brenda Pullen, died of metastatic cancer. Mrs. Pullen was successful as a banker, realtor and rancher. She will be eulogized on Saturday, January 29 at 2:30PM in the Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77479-2312.”

Brenda Sue Pullen of Sugar Land passed away at 76 years of age on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at her home. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Larry; her sister, Cindy Allred; her daughters, Elizabeth Hudson (Daniel), Chris Cander (Harris) and Sara Huffman (Shawn); her grandchildren, Catherine Hudson, Charlotte Hudson, Sasha Cander, Joshua Cander, Michaela Huffman, Quinn Huffman; two nephews and numerous cousins. Preceding her in death was her father Ralph W. Benton, her mother Dorothy (Albright) Benton, brother Ralph L. Benton and brother-in-law, Gary Allred.

Brenda was a lifelong resident of Fort Bend County, graduating from Lamar High School, class of 1963. After graduating from the University of Texas, her first job was in banking. In the 1990's, she began a long and rewarding career selling real estate with Re/Max Southwest. She loved traveling, especially cruises, and making new friends. Brenda had diverse interests and wore many hats in her life. She was involved with numerous service club affiliations which included the Fort Bend Aggie Moms, the Fort Bend Exchange Club and the Fort Bend Women's Council of Realtors. Brenda was also very active in everything concerning politics at local, state and national levels. She was a lifelong member of the Fort Bend County Fair and the Fort Bend County Fair Sweethearts.

One of Brenda's greatest loves was her family's ranch. She was most at peace there and found joy and purpose tending to her beloved horses and the cattle.

Brenda was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Merry Ministries. Brenda was affectionately called Mimi by her admiring grandchildren. And because red was her favorite color, the family asks that you wear a touch of red in honor of this lady who had a great sense of humor and a lot of grit.

The services will be held at the Sugar Land Baptist Church, located at 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land 77479, on Saturday, January 29th as follows: Visitation at 2:30 PM and Services will follow at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made in memory of Brenda Pullen to: The Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 428, Rosenberg, Texas 77471.

James "Jim" Brekke passed away on January 11th  2022.  He passed away at home surrounded by family.  The family is forever in debt to his neighbors, family and friends for all of their help in recent years.  We could not have done it without them.  Although Jim died of complications from Parkinson's and his last years were filled with trials due to the disease, his family chooses to remember how hard he fought to stay himself, we will remember him as an inspiration.

 Jim grew up in a little town of 100, in northern Minnesota he always dreamed of flying.  After graduation Jim headed to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota.  In August 27th 1968 he started working for WAL in Minneapolis, Minnesota,  working in many departments:  Baggage handler, Tickets, Weight and Balance in Operations.  While working and going to college it afforded Jim the opportunity to take flying lessons.  After hour of accruing flying hours ,Jim started an Aerial Crop Spraying Business, while he continued working for Western.   Before the merger between Western and Delta Jim was hired as a crew member flying for Western.

(Through hard work and keeping his eye on the goal his dream came true).  Later he flew under the Captains hat of Delta Airlines, until August 31 2003.

Jim's 35 years of working for the airlines was 17 1/2 years on the ramp.  Where the ramp guys remembered Jim as a "Guy with a pencil, paper and a plan"  Later Jim worked in the cockpit for 17 1/2 years. He said he always enjoyed working with the guys he once did Weight and Balance for while working in operations.  Jim was base in SEA, SLC,CVG and Retired back in SLC 

Jim was known for his subtle kindness, his big smile and huge laugh.  In business and well as in life Jim's belief was" Leave a little on the table for the next guy.

A Day of Celebration is planned this spring both in SLC and MSP.

Obituary for James "Jim" Andrew Brekke

On January 11, 2022, James Andrew Brekke, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 78, in his home surrounded by family; he will be missed. James, or Jim, was born on January 4, 1944, in Tamarack, Minnesota, to Oscar and Lydia (Franklin) Brekke. He and his wife were married for 47 years and throughout those years, they made many of their dreams come true. Other than the pride Jim felt for his sons, Jeffrey and Michael, and the love for his wife, Susan, one of Jim’s greatest accomplishments was becoming a pilot. Jim’s fascination with flight began when he was a boy, and in 2004 he retired as a Captain for Delta airlines.

 

Jim was known for his subtle kindness and generosity; maybe that is because he knew what it was like to have so little. Born in a small farmhouse in the woods, he lost his parents in his adolescence, and was raised by his siblings, Dr. Grace Guemple, Vickie Struve, and his brothers Bob, Captain Carl, and Delbert Brekke. During these formative years, he became adaptable and resourceful. Jim was a skilled huntsman and an expert on all things outdoors. His love of nature took him all over the country, Alaska being one of his favorite spots. Jim honorably served in the United States Army as a military police officer and center snapper for the football team. Beyond his affinity for aviation, he had a passion for economics and real estate. One of his favorite sayings was “Leave a little on the table for the next guy.”

 

The family is forever in debt to his neighbors, family, and friends for all of their help in recent years. We could not have done it without you. Although Jim died of complications from Parkinson’s, and his last years were filled with trials due to the disease, his family chooses to remember how hard he fought to stay himself; they will remember him as an inspiration.

 

Jim has chosen to be cremated and the Brekke family will hold two celebrations of life in his honor in the year of 2022; one in Salt Lake City, Utah where he and his wife currently reside, and one in Minnesota, his home state. Jim is survived by his wife Susan, his two sons Jeffrey and Michael, and their wives Vanessa and Samantha. Jim was an example of the fact that it is never too late to make your dreams come true.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you respect Jim’s spirt of “Leaving a little on the table for the next guy” and pay it forward in the kindness of your own heart.

With a sad heart I am letting you all know of the passing of Jim Brekke. He died at 4:30 a.m. today from complications of Parkinson’s. Jim was currently living in Salt Lake City. Survived by wife Sue, two sons: Jeff (Vanessa) and Michael (Samantha).

He will be cremated and a memorial service at a later date will be planned.

December 22, 1940 - January 5, 2022

 

Notice with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Jim Hauf, age 81.  Captain Hauf joined Delta Air Lines 05-03-1965 and retired with Delta in March of 1997, and was based 031/ATL.   Widowed in February of last year, Captain Hauf is survived by his son-in-law Jason and his two grandchildren.  Please see below.

Obituary : James George Hauf

Bluffton, South Carolina - Jim died peacefully at his home on January 5, 2022. He was 81.

Jim was born in Baltimore, MD the son of Edith Dent Hauf and Joseph H. Hauf

He graduated from Loyola High School and attended Loyola University before joining the Marine Corps. He graduated from the Naval Air Training Command as a Naval Aviator. He served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam from 1963-1964 and received commendations for bravery.

After the war, Jim joined Delta Airlines and flew as Captain around the US and Europe until his retirement in 1997. In 1962 he met the love of his life, Judy Cooper and they were married in 1963. They were longtime residents in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area.

Jim and Judy enjoyed traveling, entertaining and football. He had a classic sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke, on himself or others. He was fastidious, almost to a humorous fault. He was forever proud of his Marine Corps membership and celebrated that relationship. He was a great friend to all who were close to him and always gave more than he received in friendship and generosity.

Jim is survived by his sister, Pamela Hauf Brooks, his son-in-law, Jason Brown and grandchildren, Grace and Nicholas. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Judy, and his daughter, Patty Brown.

January 24, 1923 - January 12, 2022

 

Word has been received with the passing of Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta pilot Captain Carl Leming, age 98 just shy of his 99^th birthday.  Captain Leming joined Delta Air Lines 01-29-1951 and retired in 1983 based Atlanta.  He is survived by his wife of 77 years Mabelle “Buzzy”, and by his son Mark and by his grand- and great grandchildren.

Obituary : Carl Allen Leming, age 98 of Union, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. Carl was a WW II Veteran and later retired as an Airline Captain from Delta Airlines. He was an inductee into the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Mason’s Good Faith Lodge #95. He is survived by his wife of 77 years Mabelle “Buzzy” Leming, son Mark (Kathy) Leming, grandchildren Marcus Leming, Brent (Lauren) Leming, Trisha (Dallas) Maines and 7 great grandchildren and sister JoAnn (John) Gillespie. He is preceded in death by his daughter Chandra (Leverett) Butts, 2 brothers John and Sam Leming.

 

Services are to be held Monday, January 17, 2022 at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 US 42, Florence, KY 41042 with visitation from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with burial immediately following at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, KY.

WA/DL Capt. Lonnie Leonard Kuatt

December 25, 1931 ~ January 8, 2022

 

Family has contacted us sharing this news with the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Lonnie Kuatt, age 90.  Captain Kuatt joined Western Airlines 03-15-1962 and was based Denver.  Unfortunately, Captain Kuatt suffered a fall on the 28^th of December and was hospitalized, but was unable to recover and succumbed to complications.  Captain Kuatt is survived by his wife Carol of 69 years, and by his children Marcia, Rick and Allen.

Arrangements are yet to be determined.
