We honor and remember the life of retired Delta Air Lines pilot USAF ret. Brigadier General William “Bill” Murrell Guy, age 81.  Bill joined Delta Air Lines 09-12-1969 and was based DFW, then 031/ATL prior to his retiring.  Bill is survived by his wife Carole, and by his children and their families.

William "Bill" M. Guy

Fort Worth, Texas - Brigadier General William Murrell Guy, known affectionately as Bill, passed away on August 7, 2024, at the age of 81, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on August 31, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, Bill's life was marked by his dedication to his work, his love for the outdoors, and his deep affection for his family.

 

A proud graduate of Memphis State University, Bill earned his BA in marketing in 1964. His leadership skills were evident early on as he excelled in the ROTC program, leading to a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Bill served his country with distinction, flying tactical airlift operations in the Vietnam War until 1969. He continued his service in the Texas Air National Guard, where he held several key positions, including Chief of the 136th Airlift Wing Command Post and Commander of the 181st Airlift Squadron. In 1992, he was promoted to Brigadier General, assuming the role of Wing Commander of the 136th Tactical Airlift Wing at Hensley Field until his retirement from military service in 1995.

 

Parallel to his military career, Bill worked as a pilot for Delta Airlines for 32 years, flying aircraft ranging from the DC-8 to the B777. He retired in 2002 as the Chief Line Check Pilot for the B777, having logged over 25,000 hours of flying time across military and civilian aircraft. Beyond aviation, Bill ventured into real estate, energy, and other business interests, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit.

 

Bill's enthusiasm extended into his community involvement and hobbies. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Keller. He served as a founding member and director of the B-36 Peacemaker Museum in Ft. Worth and volunteered as treasurer of the 911 Aircrew Memorial Foundation.

 

An avid sports enthusiast, Bill possessed a passion for hunting and fishing with his friends. A natural athlete, he excelled at baseball, playing shortstop for much of his youth. His devotion to aviation fueled his love of his restored 1949 L17B Navion aircraft which he flew to his ranch, on hunting trips, and for charitable organizations.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Bedford Guy and Valla Ruth Guy, and his brother, Maurice Webber.

 

Bill is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Carole Hays Guy; three children, Deidre Guy Northcott (John), Andrea Guy Folse (Kevin), and Eric Guy (Donna); and eight grandchildren: Michael, Hana (Trevor), Graham, Caleb, Jack, Marin, Savannah (Adam), and Skyler. He also leaves behind a great-grandchild, Oliver Kemp, and his brothers, Gary (Lynn) and Ron (Nancy) Guy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

Bill's legacy as a patriot, pilot, and family man will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him. His faith in Christ gives his family and friends the confidence that we will be reunited with Bill in heaven.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 2:30 pm at the Live Oak Chapel at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement Road, Ft. Worth, Texas.

WA/DL Capt. Louis Carroll Delzer

USAF veteran, WA/DL Capt. Louis Carroll Delzer

December 31, 1936 ~ July 2, 2024

From friends and colleagues, we have learned of the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Louis “Carroll” Delzer, age 87.  Captain Delzer joined Western Airlines 10-07-1968 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1996 based LAX.  He is survived by his daughters and their families.

OBITUARY

Louis Carroll Delzer passed away on July 2, 2024 in Long Beach, CA. He was 87 years old. He was a former resident of Palos Verdes Estates. He was born on December 31, 1936 in Zeeland, ND, the son of Rhinee and Madeline Delzer.

Carroll graduated from University of North Dakota. He worked on the Minute Man Project before entering the Air Force. Carroll was in the first class to fly T-38s. He went on to fly B-52s in Vietnam.  In 1968 Carroll was hired by Western Airlines where he flew 727s. Western Airlines was bought by Delta Airlines. He flew for the airlines for 28 years and retired as a Captain. 

Carroll had many favorite things: airplanes of course, researching antique firearms, hunting in the Midwest, gardening, the beach, cowboy movies and the Old West, history, museums, animals, classic cars, cheap scotch, crosswords and was an avid reader. He enjoyed all of these and more during his retired years.

Carroll is survived by his sister Jeanne Delzer of NC and his 3 daughters: Becky Hughes of San Bernardino, CA, Tammy Finn of Gainesville, GA and Jill Rose of Torrance, CA, his grandchildren Kerstin Hughes, Franklin Hughes, Sara Finn, Jenna Finn, Kori Jo Finn and 6 great grandchildren.

January 27, 1937 — July 20, 2024

 

We remember retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain John Lee Janes Sr., age 87.  John joined Delta Air Lines 12-17-1962 and was based Atlanta.  Widowed in January 2008 with the passing of his wife Marie, John is survived by his sons John and Jay.

John Lee Janes, Sr. obituary :

John Lee Janes, Sr. passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, in Springfield, Louisiana, at the age of 87. He was born on Wednesday, January 27, 1937 in Carlisle, Iowa to the late Mabel Nelson Janes and the late Earl Janes. At a young age, John left his home in Iowa to join the United States Army. He served in Okinawa, before going to Hawaii, and finally to South Carolina. After his military service, John worked for Delta Airlines as a captain and instructor pilot, achieving seniority of Number One despite not having a college degree, and even training Astronauts for NASA during his career. From starting the Alcoholic Anonymous Program for pilots, to being the first American pilot to fly into Moscow when their airspace opened, he accomplished many great feats throughout his career. John had a sense of humor that bordered on the psychopathic, constantly playing pranks on his coworkers. He never stopped joking and was always funny.

 

John is survived by his sons, John Janes, Jr.(Carro) and Jay Janes; brother, Ken Janes; sister, Dorothy Logan; nieces and nephews, Jaye Schaefer, Jon Cuccia, Jina Schweizer, Jace Cuccia, Charles E Decker IV, Deborah Decker Karriker, and Scott A Decker; several nieces and nephews in Iowa; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Marie Janes; and step-children, Ross LeSaicherre, Jr. and Jeannine Gandy.

Marie Janes Obituary

Marie Handley Janes passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the age of 71. She was the beloved wife of John Lee Janes. She was preceded in death by her son, Ross J. Le Saicherre, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Lorena Landry Handley and John Duplan Handley. Loving mother of Jeannine Le Saicherre Gandy. Stepmother of John Lee Janes, Jr. and Jay Edward Janes. Marie is survived by her two sisters Hope H. Cuccia and Donnette H. Decker. She is survived by six grandchildren Jamie, Jennifer, Jessica, Jonathan, and Jay Gandy, and Keith Le Saicherre Gleason and one great grandchild, Peyton Marie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Marie was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend who will be missed by all. She will be remembered for her humor, intellect and grace…………………….

We honor the life of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain Alan Lee Gaines, age 80.  Alan joined Western Airlines 12-12-1972 and retired with Delta Air Lines based SLC and then CVG/030 prior to his retiring.  Alan is survived by his wife Ann, and by his children and his grandchildren.

Alan Gaines Obituary

Alan Lee Gaines, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on July 14, 2024. Born in Downey, California, Alan was the youngest of three sons of Foster and Pauline Gaines. He was a proud graduate of Earl Warren High School and earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from USC, where he also completed his Navy ROTC training.

 

Alan's distinguished military career included service as a naval aviator, flying the F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom. He retired from the Navy Reserve after 22 years of dedicated service. He met his wife, Ann Pennington Gaines, on Christmas Eve 1968, and they were married in 1970. Alan's commercial airline career with Western Airlines and Delta Airlines spanned over 31 years, where he was known for his commitment to safety and his calm and thorough approach.

 

Alan and Ann raised their children, Joanna and Jeffrey, in Nevada City, California, where Alan was deeply involved in community service, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Museum, and Peace Lutheran Church. His passions included camping, hiking, and singing with local choirs.

 

Alan is preceded in death by his much-loved brother, Richard. He is survived by his adoring wife Ann; children Joanna (Andy) Trygstad and Jeffrey (Kara) Gaines; grandchildren Grant, Gavin, and Alexis; his brother Dennis (Judy) Gaines; and his sister-in-law Nancy Gaines. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Kristen, Alan, Amanda, Deni, Kelley, and Dusty.

 

A memorial service will be held on August 17, 2024, at 2 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main Street, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Alan's legacy of love, faith, and service will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

One of the faithful quiet servants for RNPA is Dick Dodge. He sends this

message this morning, July 17, 2024……………..

 

It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of my wonderful wife's passing.

She is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. She brought so much

love and joy into our lives and will be deeply missed. Details of a future

Celebration of Life Service will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, a gift

to First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, NC, The Humane Society or any
