Furrer, Louis John Jr. was born August 28, 1928 in San Mateo, CA. He started his early love of flying by soloing in June 1946 in a 65 horse power Taylor Craft and ended his career in an 80,000 pound thrust B-757. He was hired as a Flight Purser by Southwest Airways in 1948. He served in the USAF from 1950 to 1954 as an Electronic Counter Measure Operator on the RB-36. Returning to SWA, he was hired as a pilot in 1955. Rapid expansion led to his promotion to DC-3 Captain in 1959, then on to the M-404, F-27, DC-9 and B757. Southwest became Pacific Air Lines, Air West, Hughes Air West and Republic Airlines. Over the years he held various management positions, Chief Pilot in San Francisco and Denver, Regional Flight Manager and Director of Flight Operations. Overseas assignments for Hughes Air West included Air Liberia in Monrovia, Liberia and Ghana Airways in Accra Ghana. He is survived by his loving wife Margaux, brother Richard, son David and daughter Julia Panelli, two step sons Earl and Robert Norwood, 3 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren.
