Notification was received last week with the passing of RNPA member retired NWA pilot Captain Richard George ‘Rick’ Hanson, age 74.  Captain Hanson’s obituary is now available online at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/twincities/obituary.aspx?n=richard-g-hanson-rick&pid=170910136  The funeral home website should be updated soon.
Born/raised in Minnesota, Captain Hanson joined Northwest Airlines 10-24-1966 and retired with Northwest at the mandatory age 60 in 2000.

Obituary ~
 
It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of Richard George "Rick" Hanson of Excelsior, MN, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the age of 74 at his winter home in Palm Desert, CA. Rick passed away of a heart attack while lounging on his patio listening to his beloved Audible books, overlooking golf course and desert mountains. Rick was born March 17, 1940 in St. Paul, MN. Preceded in death by parents George and Madeline Hanson. He is survived by his sister June Nuttelman; daughters, Sandra Kadisak, Leslee McGraw, and Shelly Krafve; grandchildren: Justin, Adam, Molly, Johanna, Natalie, Carter, Max, and Owen; and great-grandchildren Alexandra, Caleb, and Sean. Rick earned a B.S. Degree from the University of MN. He was a Northwest (Delta) Airline Captain for 32 years and Chairman & CEO of his family-owned business, Old Home Foods, Inc., founded in 1925. He was an avid reader, enjoyed sailing, motorcycling, traveling, music and spending time on Big Island, Lake Minnetonka. Rick had a full 74 years of life, as well as a long list of giving to over 30 different charities. Services to honor Rick's life will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 12:00 pm at Mount Olivet West, 7150 Rolling Acres Road, Victoria, MN 55331. Donations may be made in Rick's memory to your local Public Broadcasting Station.
