___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary..................
Robert (Bob) Lawrence lost his fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis on Monday, November 30, 2015 at the age of 74. He was born October 30, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Wilma and Fred Lawrence. He attended Little Rock Public Schools and graduated from T.J. Raney High School in 1959. He then attended Little Rock University until he joined the Navy in 1962 and became a Naval Aviator flying the A-4 Skyhawk. He married Carolyn Williams after receiving his wings in 1963. They were married 52 years. He was hired by Delta Air Lines and flew for them for 30 years. He was also an instructor in Training Department for Delta. He was a contract test pilot for Dassault Falcon Jet for many years.

Bob was a strong Christian, he loved the Lord, his family, his country, flying, and his friends. He had a passion for whatever he did.

Bob was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Angler Sunday School Class, Immanuel’s’ TV ministry, a bible study fellowship where he served as discussion leader. He loved music, writing poetry, dancing and guitar playing.

But his family was most important. He loved his daughter Christa (Jason), sons Nick (fiancé Rebekah Hardin), Rob (Ashley) and his grandchildren: Isaac, Nikko, and Dalyn.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Debbie and Lary Tidball, brother-in-law Jim Williams. Nieces Holly Tidball, Jenny (Todd) Bunch, Wendy Thomas and Lana Williams and a host of cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating Bob’s life will be Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N Shackleford Rd in Little Rock. The family will greet everyone after the service. He will lie in state on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street in Little Rock. 1. I am saddened by his passing. I have the very best memories of flying with Bob. He was a man with a great sense of humor, and a true professional pilot. I will never forget flying with "Sir Lawrence of Little Rock". A lot of laughter, and always, a sense of having done the very best for our passengers. He is missed.

  3. I flew as a flight engineer with Bob and considered him a close friend. We often teased each other in that good natured way. One day I was the Captain of a B-737, and Bob got on in Little Rock going with us to ATL. He sat in the last row of first class, and when we leveled off I made the PA announcement that we had a "special guest" on board, sitting in seat 4C. It was "astronaut" Bob Lawrence, in training for a space shuttle flight, and he'd be happy to sign autographs !! Bob was good a real sport and signed about 10 autographs, and as he was getting off he walked up to me as I stood in the doorway, and said, "I'll get even with you." Our paths never crossed again and yet I thought of him often. Captain Bob, you will be missed !

  4. I flew with Hair and Eyes Lawrence many times as a F/E on the DC-8 out of MSY. A great guy. Always happy and fun to work with. He will be missed. I haven't seen him for many years, which is a problem with this job we had.

  5. Whenever I ran into Bob, he always had a new joke. You always had a smile on your face when you left. What a wonderful sense of humor. A very happy person. He will truly be missed. Captain Don Steinway

  6. I flew with Bob back in the glory days of the MSY base. He was a great pilot, and a great Captain and he knew how to make the job fun and take his crew along for the ride. If I had a hog hat, I'd wear it all day tomorrow in his honor ( I might have to paint it "Big Orange" , but I believe he'd understand.
