Notification with the passing of Air Force veteran retired Hughes/Republic/Northwest Airlines pilot Captain George Henry Johnston, age 81.

Obituary..................Johnston, George Henry,
age 81, of Edina, passed away July 26, 2016. George was raised in Central Oregon and attended the University of Oregon at Eugene, Oregon where he was awarded a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He attended pilot training with U.S. Air Force, and was assigned as a tanker pilot during the Vietnam War, flying 54 combat missions. He was released from Air Force in 1968 and joined the airlines, where he flew for Hughes Air West, Republic and Northwest Airlines as a First Officer and Captain. He married Virginia (Jean) Mae Tomasoski in 1971. In 1985, they moved from Scottsdale, Arizona to Edina, MN, and enjoyed their home in Edina as well as a lake home in Northern Minnesota. He retired in 2003 with 25 years accredited service with the airlines. During retirement, he enjoyed golf, fly fishing, photography and adventure. George and Jean celebrated 45 years of marriage in 2015. He had a tremendous love for Jean, Elizabeth and Allison. He is survived by his wife, Jean, daughters Elizabeth Johnston, Allison Christensen, son-in-law Chad Christensen, and grandsons Harrison and Charles Newbold.
