___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Paula S. Knight
January 27, 1950 – July 2, 2021

Paula Saporito Knight of Marietta, Georgia passed away on July 2, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was 71 years old.  Paula was born in Houston, Texas, the first of four children to Paul and Maryann Saporito.  She attended Sam Houston High School in Houston and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

During her time at Stephen F. Austin, she heard about the opportunities for travel for flight attendants.  She opted to pursue that dream and went to work as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines.  Paula was assigned to New Orleans after earning her wings as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines where she met a Delta pilot named Charles Knight.  They later married and moved to the Atlanta area where she continued to work for Delta until she and Chuck started a family.  Paula was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a past president of Delta Clipped Wings. She continued her passion for travel after leaving Delta, exploring destinations across the country and around the globe with her family and friends.  She also enjoyed playing tennis and cycling, participating with Chuck in the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG).

Paula is survived by her husband of 48 years, Chuck, her two sons David (Melissa) of Basalt, Colorado and Stephen (Heidi) of Westminster, Colorado, her grandsons that she adored, Luca and Miles, her sister Susie of San Antonio, Texas, and her brother Tony of Houston, Texas.

A vigil will be held on Wednesday, July 21 from 6 – 8 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road NE, Marietta, Georgia 30068.  A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 11 AM at Catholic Church of St. Ann, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia 30062.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the
American Cancer Society.

Visitation and Service information below

Message from Chuck

This update is very difficult to write.  Paula's battle fighting cancer has ended.  After being in remission for almost 10 years, her cancer returned in January 2015, and the battle ended on July 2, 2021.  The past three weeks have been particularly difficult as her health deteriorated rapidly.  But now she is at peace with our Lord.

Her funeral will be on July 22, at 11:00 am in Marietta, Georgia at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Rd. with burial in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 2:00 pm.  There will be visitation the night before from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son - Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Rd., Marietta, GA 30068.

We plan to stream her funeral Mass for those of you who cannot come because of distance or concerns with Covid.  Go to the church website (
st-ann.org) and click on "live" at the proper time.

She was a beautiful person, a friend to many, a loving wife, a mom, and "Memaw" to her grandchildren.  We will all miss her deeply.  Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support these past six-plus years.  You were with us at the Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Winship Cancer Institute.  The caregivers she had were fantastic.  I can't thank everyone enough.  God bless you all.

Love,
Chuck
