___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary : David J White, beloved father and husband, passed away at the age 73 on Dec 31, 2021.

David is survived by his wife Marnie, his 3 children Ashley, Amy & Justin, and his brother Antony. David was born on April 15, 1948 in Toronto Canada to Bill and Georgina White. Shortly after the family moved to Renton WA where he graduated from Renton Highschool in 1966 and the University of Washington in 1970.

David’s early ambition as a boy was to fly and he received his private flying license before he was 17. He then received his commercial license at Renton Aviation, and at the age of 18 was believed to be the one of the youngest airline pilots in the country with a commercial rating. He started his career as a flight instructor in Renton and continued teaching at the University of North Dakota and then Fort Lauderdale Int’l airport before moving back to Renton. In 1978 he was hired on as a pilot with Hughes Airwest, eventually moving to Burnsville Minnesota where he was based with Northwest Airlines and began flying internationally. After several years of saying he’ll never spend another winter in Minnesota, he moved to Southern California where he retired as a Captain from Delta Airlines in 2008. Flying allowed him to travel the world which he continued to enjoy after retirement.

He was a generous friend and father, always positive and was always the calm in any storm. He loved to have fun, was known to cut a rug on the dance floor and BBQ’ d a mean Tri Tip. There was never a dull moment with family and friends.

He resided in San Clemente where he enjoyed beautiful views of the ocean and amazing sunsets. He and his wife Marnie enjoyed spending time between their home in San Clemente and their place in Palm Desert.

The family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate his life.
