___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary :  Lt. Col. Matthew S. Freesen

Sylvania, OH - Lt. Col. Matthew S. Freesen, age 69, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023 with his wife and daughters by his side. Though his life was cut short, it was full of one-of-a-kind experiences and adventures. Matt was proud of his 23 years in the Air Force and National Guard where he flew F-16 fighter jets for the 180th base in Toledo, Ohio. He ended his long flying career as a Captain with Delta Airlines in 2018.

Anyone that knew Matt knew of his love for his yellow lab (Mr. Cooper), playing golf, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and relaxing by his pool in Naples, Florida with an ice cold Bud Light.

His family would like to thank his lung donor and family for their selfless gift and Dr. Budev and the amazing team at Cleveland Clinic.

He is survived by his wife, Cathleen; daughters, Jessica (Ryan) Hoefler and Jackie Freesen; grandchildren, Quinn and Leo Hoefler; father, Oscar Robert (Deb) Freesen Sr.; siblings, Oscar Robert (Dawn) and Kerry (Cathy) Freesen as well as sister-in-law, Sue Freesen.

Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Alice (nee Albright) Freesen; brother Guy and granddaughter, Piper Hoefler.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 1-4pm at Highland Meadows Golf Club, 7455 Erie Street, Sylvania Ohio, 43560.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made in Matt's memory to Piper's Key ( piperskey.com ) or Cherry Street Mission ( cherrystreetmission.org/give/ ).
