___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Martin Arthur Pegelow obituary

Martin (Marty) Arthur Pegelow, 75, of Sebastian, FL was called to his Lord and Savior on June 19, 2024.

Marty was born on May 3, 1949, in Highland Park, IL to Earl and Shirley Pegelow. He graduated from Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Prairie View, IL in 1967 and from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL in 1971. Following college, Marty went into the Navy for jet pilot/aircraft training and completed officer training. He married Jacqueline (Goza) Pegelow on June 23, 1973, in Gulf Breeze, FL and celebrated 50 years of marriage last June. Marty flew commercially for Northwest Airlines (becoming Delta Airlines) for 30 years, traveling 22,500 hours in the air and to 17 countries. Marty was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church in Northfield, MN for 27 years and attended Community Baptist Church in Sebastian, FL for the past 10 years.

Marty faithfully led and loved his family, seeking his Heavenly Father every step of the way. He was a patient and devoted father, natural teacher, and servant leader. He was the first line of contact for many people as they knew he would be quick to help, offer sound advice or advocate on their behalf. With his wide breadth of knowledge, his skilled critical thinking and his ability to fix anything, Marty poured himself into helping others, actively serving his church and his community. He compassionately and lovingly cared for his wife, Jackie in her last years of life. He loved adventures and exploring the world, and was a lifelong learner, expert problem solver, and fantastic story-teller.

Marty is survived by his children, Kim Pegelow, Kerri (Conor) Angell and Paul (Morgan) Pegelow and six grandchildren, Lillian, Elias, Miriam, Ireland, Abram and Victoria, and his brother Jerry (Vicki) Pegelow. He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie and his parents Earl and Shirley Pegelow.

A memorial service to celebrate Marty’s life will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 11:00am at Community Baptist Church, 12534 Roseland Rd, Sebastian, FL 32958 with Pastor John Stevens officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in honor of Marty to the EAA Young Eagles https://www.eaa.org/eaa/apps/donations/donationye or BMW Motorcycles of America Safe Miles Endowment https://bmwmoaf.givingfuel.com/safemiles-endowment
