___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

  1. Bob was one of the best in all aspects. As junior birdman at WAL we flew a few trips together in the early 60's. When the seniority list was very mixed up as we were still flying F/O in the DC6B & checking out in different seats on the L188. Bob & I had a layover near the SFO airport
which was Bobs old stopping grounds as he grew up nearby. He took me to one of his favorite watering holes called " Artichoke Joes ".
Everybody knew him there & we ended up closing the place down.
It ended up being a short night as far as sleeping goes. Not unusual
in those days. Many years later when DAL bought us out, Bob & I were paired up together in transitioning into the L1011 as Capt.'s. in Atlanta. Normally ground school/simulator/flight training is a lot of hard work & not a fun time. Going through the checkout process with Bob was a blast. What a fun guy to be around always.
Bob will be very much missed by all who knew him.

    Mel Younker WAL/DAL retired.
