___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

David Henry Jenkins

It is with both sorrow and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of David Henry Jenkins, a devoted husband, loving father and stepfather and "Papa Dave" to his grandchildren. A faithful servant of God, David left this world on December 1, in Bluffton, SC at the age of 87. He left behind a legacy of adventure, warmth and unwavering love.

Born on August 16, 1938, David embraced life with the spirit that lifted everyone around him. The sky was not a limit, but a calling. As an Air Force pilot, Pan Am pilot and Delta Air Lines pilot, he found joy in the freedom of flight, the quiet focus of the cockpit, and in the endless view of horizons yet to be explored.

That same sense of adventure with his wife and best friend, Sandy, followed them, everywhere they went. Traveling on land, in the air, and especially sailing on the water brought him peace and happiness. Together they traveled to foreign countries collecting memories and friendships. Their bond was one of shared laughter, deep admiration, and the kind of companionship that made every journey, big or small, feel extraordinary.

Those who knew him will remember his remarkable ability to make anyone feel welcome. He had a gift for bringing out smiles, for lighting up a room, and for making people feel seen and valued. His kindness was never loud, but always felt.

Above all, he was a man who loved God. His faith was his true compass. It guided him, strengthened him and shaped the gentle kindness he showed so freely to others.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his brother, Paul Jenkins; his son, Kent Jenkins; his daughter, Irene Hammond; his stepdaughter, Jacquelyn Junkins; his sons-in-law, Rick Hammond and Eric Junkins; and grandchildren, Jack and Elizabeth Junkins.

A celebration of David's life is being planned. Confirmation and details of plans will be sent out.
