Today we received this sad news from the Webster family with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Larry Webster, age 83.  Captain Webster joined Delta Air Lines 07-19-1965 and was based ATL/030.  He is survived by his wife Anne and by his children and grandchildren.

Obituary :  Larry Edwards Webster, 83, of Athens died on Monday, October 10, 2022.

 

Born in Birmingham, AL to John Edwin Webster and Myrtice Edwards Webster, Larry grew up in the Inglenook neighborhood of Birmingham, graduating from Philips High School and later from Auburn University with bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management. He then served his country as an aviator in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1965. In 1965, he moved to Atlanta to begin his career as a commercial pilot with Delta Airlines, a position he held until his retirement in 1996. Larry was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where he enjoyed making and serving grits at the Sunday homeless breakfast, and lived in the city until he and his wife relocated to Presbyterian Village in Athens in 2020.

 

Larry was a competitive tennis player from 1965 until 1991, the year he took up golf. He played golf until 2018 and “shot his age” in 2014 at age 75. He was very handy and could fix anything around the house. Above all, he was a great dad and grandfather.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Frances Webster.

 

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anne Hughes Webster; their children, John Webster II (Julie) of Athens and Lia Webster (Chaun White) of Bend, Oregon; and grandchildren John (Jack) Webster III, Luke Webster, and Faye Webster.

 

A memorial service will be held at Athens Presbyterian Village, 1400 Live Oak Ln, Athens, GA on Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 a.m.

 

A second memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta on Sunday, November 13th at 4:00 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.

Catherine Ann (LaJoie) James, age 74, wife of NWA pilot David James, died on September 30, 2022. Cathy was born on October 25, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN.

She attended Northrop High School in Minneapolis, MN and the University of Minnesota. Thereafter Cathy had a 38 year career as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines. Cathy and David raised their two children in Burnsville, MN. After Cathy's retirement from Northwest Airlines, she and her husband David moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, splitting their time between Florida and Minnesota.

 Memorial service arrangements are not yet known.

Holy Cats!!! On July 21, 2022, Nancy Louise Most embarked on the next of her nine lives! She very much enjoyed this one and sends meows and kisses to all her friends and neighbors.

 

In true Minnesota fashion, she was born at home in the small town of Buhl on Jan. 17, 1934. It was a very good year. And it was a very good childhood—simple, humble and complete. She later had a rewarding career with Western Airlines in Minneapolis where she met her mate—Phil Most.

 

Nancy and Phil married and settled down in a beautiful home in an outstanding neighborhood in Thousand Oaks in 1971. Nancy quickly joined many organizations—the Orchid Society, the Garden Club, the Republican Women, etc., and made wonderful lifelong friends.

 

Nancy was an incredible gardener, voracious reader and talented cook. Her orchids and roses were beautiful. She was also a lifelong NRA member and could toss back bourbon with the best of them. In other words, not to be messed with!

 

She valued her friendships—they often spanned three generations of the same family.

 

Nancy had wonderful neighbors, and was beloved by everyone. She went out like she lived her life—a very organized rock star! Now she is happily reunited with her husband Phil, her cats, loved friends and members of her family. If you wish to make a donation, the Friends of the Library or Senior Concerns in Thousand Oaks would be most appreciative.

Capt. PHIL MOST’s OBITUARY

Phil G. Most passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 2005.

 

Phil was born on July 17, 1925, in Laurel, Neb. He moved to California and began his flying career when he was a young man. He flew for Utah Construction, Cal Eastern, the Flying Tigers, and participated in the historic Hungarian Airlift. In 1955, his flying career continued with Western Airlines, and then on to Delta until his retirement in 1988. He flew both privately and for corporations and loved it. He also loved traveling the world for the last 34 years with his beloved wife, Nancy.

 

Phil was a member of the CAF (Commemorative Air Force) in Camarillo. He also belonged to the Oxnard-Santa Barbara chapter of the QBs.

 

Phil is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Lexa Most Mieger (Martin) and Debora Biddick, and his two grandchildren, Jackie and Shawna. He also is survived by sisters, Kathryn Danielson, Evelyn Wyant, Mabel Kastrop, Jo Walker, and Janice Most; and brothers, Milton Most and Rodney Most. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Phil loved his cats, including his most current cat, Tweek, and the late James Madison.

 

Family and friends will miss his good humor and hard work ethic. He was a man of immense character. Everyone wishes him all their love. Blue skies and tailwinds, Phil!

Obituary :     Scott Denton Critzer, 52, of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly due to a cardiac event on Saturday October 1, 2022. Scott was born February 18, 1970 in Bethesda, Maryland. Scott is the son of Mary Anne Critzer and the late Galley Boaz Critzer Sr.

 

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Christina Elaine Critzer; mother, Mary Anne Critzer; brother Galley B. Critzer Jr.; sister-in-law, Lorena Critzer; aunt, Evelyn Wright; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mike and Carole Fariss; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Travis and Michelle Early; three nieces; one nephew; one great niece; and two dogs.

 

Scott grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia spending much of his time on the family farm and riding horses. He graduated from Courtland High School in 1988. He went on to graduate from Florida Institute of Technology in 1992 where he pursued his passion of flying airplanes. He then started his career as a professional pilot working for several airlines. The last 25 years he flew for Delta Airlines where he earned the position of Captain on the 757 and 767ER.

 

Scott and Christina loved traveling and spending time together with their dogs, Delta and Piper, at their cabin in the mountains of Georgia. He lived life to the fullest and was skilled in many hobbies. He enjoyed scuba diving, live music, was an excellent marksman, and participated in a variety of shooting competitions. Scott touched many lives and is deeply loved by family and countless friends with whom he always made time to visit and share a laugh.

 

A celebration of life will be held in Atlanta as well as a service in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

From family and friends we learn of the passing of retired Northwest Airlines pilot Captain Stephen Alvin Luckey, age 82.  Steve joined Northwest 12-04-1967.  He is survived by his wife Jeannie plus many more dear family members and friends. A memorial service will be held at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church in Kalispell on Oct. 14, followed immediately by burial with military honors at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery ….please see obituary information below.

Obituary : Steve Luckey, warrior extraordinaire, has won his final battle on Oct. 2, 2022, and is now resting peacefully and comfortably in the hands of our Lord God. Not only was Steve the ultimate warrior, but his life was exceptional in ways that most of us will never experience. An expert marksman, a Marine fighter pilot, commercial airline pioneer, and an international aviation security expert were just some of the roles he played and the talents he had during his extraordinary life. Almost anyone who spent time with Steve could attest to his humor, his charm, his charisma and much more. He was famous for his “Luckeyism’s” as he had an appropriate and witty response for everything.

 

Steve was born on March 8, 1940, in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles “Chick” and Mabel Luckey. He grew up in the beautiful Pocono Mountains where, much like his father, he developed a love for the outdoors; hunting, fishing, exploring and all things that led to adventure. He graduated from Pocono High School in East Stroudsburg and later focused on physics and mathematics while attending the University of Pennsylvania. Steve’s military career began in the Marine Corps, becoming an officer and earning his Naval aviator wings in Pensacola, Florida. He flew the A-4 Skyhawk (his favorite jet), the U-10 Helio Courier, and became aircraft carrier qualified. He proudly served in the Vietnam War in 1966 and 1967, both on the ground and in the air. Steve was selected for duty as a psychological warfare specialist and counterinsurgency operative, founding the Kit Carson Scout Program, ultimately earning the Bronze Star.

 

Steve’s professional journey took him into the world of commercial aviation as a pilot for Northwest Airlines. He became chairman of the Air Line Pilots Association Security Committee, designing and influencing security strategies that continue today. An unyielding patriot, even after retirement he continued to chair ALPA security, worked closely with the FBI on aviation security, owned his own security consulting business and was an expert firearms consultant for NEMO Arms. In 2010, and in honor of his aviation security career, Steve was presented with the ALPA David L. Behncke Lifetime Achievement Award, which has only been given four times in ALPA’s 90-year history.

 

Steve could often be found in the Tobacco Root Mountains of Montana riding his favorite horse Judd where he owned and operated a successful outdoor guide and outfitting business. These adventures combined Steve’s interest in guns with his love of the outdoors, and gave his children many fond memories spending time with their Dad on backpacking and hiking trips.

 

Steve’s love of life extended to his personal life, where his relationships were both passionate and loving. His children unquestionably carry on his legacy of hard work, drive for accomplishment and a belief in living life to its fullest. Steve met his match and soulmate, Jeannie, later in life, and as he often said, “I married my best friend” in 2004. Living in Kalispell, they had many of the same passions, shared so many adventures together, and traveled constantly, including a honeymoon trip to Tasmania. There was never a dull moment until the late in life diagnosis of MS began to interfere with the fun. Nonetheless, Steve always considered himself a “lucky man” as evidenced in his own autobiography. Even in his final days he remained positive and could still bring a beautiful smile to his face.

 

Steve is survived by his wife, Jeannie; and all of his loving family, Stephanie Luckey Fehr and Eric (Matthew, Ashley and Erika), Judd Luckey and Kelly (Benjamin), Sara Luckey Hendrickson and Daryn (Parker and Preslee), Megan Luckey Santos and Jefferson (Harrison and Livingston), and stepchildren, Jennifer Parson, Bill Parson Jr., Chris Parson and Stephanie (Hailey).

 

A memorial service will be held at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church in Kalispell on Friday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m., followed immediately by burial with military honors at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery and a celebration of life at the Buffalo Hill Golf Club beginning at 3 p.m.
