Delta Air Lines pilot Lance David Rush, age 54, passed away Monday, October 9^th.  Lance joined Delta Air Lines 09-23-1999.  He is survived by his wife Martha and by his children and his siblings.

Obituary  :   Lance David Rush, 54, of Winchester, VA passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at his home.

Lance was born December 24, 1968, a son of Bernabe and Ana Alcaide. He was a pilot for Delta Airlines, and a former little league football coach. Along with his parents, Lance is survived by his wife, Martha A. Rush; children, Wyatt Rush (Monica Barton) of Fairfax, VA, and Emma Rush; and brothers, Rich, Max, and Julian Alcaide.

From friends and colleagues, we learn of the passing of retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Wilbur “Larry” Whitesell, age 86.  Larry joined Delta Air Lines 09-04-1962 and retired with Delta December 1996, and was based PDX at time of retirement. (Captain/Line Check Airman/Instructor MD-11, L-1011, B-727, B-757, B-767 & DC-8, Capt./Copilot or Flight Engineer Dc-3, C-46, DC-6, DC-7, DC-9, CV-340, CV-440, CV-880, CV-990, B-727)

From friends & colleagues we learn that Delta Golden Wings member retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Wilbur Dale Griffin has passed.  Dale joined Delta Air Lines 09-03-1968 and was based Dallas and Atlanta.  Dale and wife Sandra had most recently resided at The Villages in Florida.

Obituary

My dear, sweet husband of sixty years went home to be with the Lord, September 19, 2023.

Dale was born February 20, 1943 in Goose Creek, Texas (Baytown) to Bobbie and Goodwin (Goody) Griffin. The family soon moved back to Nederland, Texas where Dale grew up. He graduated from Nederland High School where he met his future wife, Sandra Kay Tucker. They attended Lamar University together and married August 9, 1963. Sandra taught school in the Nederland Independent School District and Dale learned to fly at Jefferson County Airport.

Dale gained his flying experience by flying pipeline patrol, forest fire patrol, and instructing future pilots.  He flew for an oil corporation, Mid-West Oil in Fort Worth, Texas until he was hired by Delta Air Lines in 1968. During his career Dale traveled to Russia, Japan, France, Israel, Italy, England and Germany. He retired February 16, 2003 after his last trip to Paris accompanied by many family members and friends.

Dale and Sandra enjoyed many trips to Europe.  They especially enjoyed going to Bavaria and Croatia with their dear friends Liz and John Uskovich.  In addition to flying, Dale was a Commodore with The Moorings Yacht Charter.  He and Sandra took many sailing trips all around the Caribbean Islands with Dale at the helm.

Dale and Sandra were blessed with two wonderful sons, Andrew of Scottsdale, AZ and Craig (Cindy) of Wildwood, FL. Dale loved flying and golfing so It is no accident that Andrew is a professional airline pilot and Craig is a golf professional.  Dale loved spending time with his two grandchildren, Gabriella Griffin of Albuquerque, NM and Gavin Griffin of Scottsdale, AZ.  Dale is also survived by two brothers, Kent (Debby) Griffin of Beaumont, TX; Mark (Peggy) Griffin of Buna, TX; sister-in-law, Lannie Gay Tucker of Euless, TX; Aunt, Jimmie Lou Weeren; Niece, Kayse Griffin Chappell; Nephews, Kirk and Scott Griffin and many cousins.

Sandra and the family would like to thank the sweet caregivers who showed so much kindness to Dale during his illness at Inspiritas Memory Care of Wildwood and Vitas Hospice Care. October 2, 1944 ~ October 4, 2023   

 

We have just received word that Mary Rose Tedrow passed early this morning due to medical complications and sepsis.  Mary is survived by her husband retired Delta Air Lines pilot and Delta Golden Wings member Captain Richard “Dick” Clair Tedrow.  Dick joined Delta Air Lines 7-25-1960 and was Dallas based. 

We understand that inurnment will be in Ohio and that there will be no services.

DL Capt. Charles “Chuck” Edward Huber Sr.

DL Capt. Charles “Chuck” Edward Huber Sr.

We have learned that retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Chuck Huber, age 88, has passed.  Captain Huber joined Delta Air Lines 09-30-1963.  He retired with 30+ years of service and was based Atlanta.  Chuck was widowed with the passing of his wife Lillian some time ago.  To date we have not seen an obituary online but we have been informed by his daughter Tricia that her father’s funeral service will be on Saturday, October 14th at 10 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church located at 535 Rucker Road, Alpharetta GA 30004.   (   https://www.sta.org/  )    It will be followed by a gathering at their home. Please pass the word and if more news is received we will share any updates.

Charles Huber Obituary

Charles Edward Huber, who passed away on September 13, 2023, at the age of 88, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, companion, and friend.

Chuck's proudest accomplishments were his family and his career. He was married to his beloved wife Lillian for 60 years, and they raised three children together. He loved his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren dearly and cherished every moment he spent with them.

Chuck was a pilot through and through, and he loved flying far and wide. He was proud to say he was certified to fly anything in the sky except for a balloon. He was a skilled and experienced aviator who was always willing to share his knowledge and experiences with others. Inside the cockpit as an instructor, his patience and deep love of flying were readily apparent to all his students.

In addition to his family and career, Chuck was also a lifelong Catholic. He was an active member for many years of the parishes and men's groups of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, St. Peter Chanel in Roswell, Georgia, and St. Brendan's in Cumming, Georgia. As a daily participant in the Mass, he could "smell" a church in any city around the world as he traveled.

Chuck was a kind and compassionate man who always had a smile and a question for those he met. It was often said that he "never met a stranger." He was curious about everyone and everything around him and loved learning new things. Freedom was at his core; he cherished any adventure over the horizon to see what was there. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Chuck's legacy is one of unconditional love, compassion, and curiosity. He always saw the best in people and encouraged them to reach their full potential. He believed that God is love and encouraged others to believe in the possibility of the infinite.

His family and friends will deeply miss Chuck and his legacy will be celebrated in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A mass will be celebrated in his memory on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 10 am Eastern at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 535 Rucker Rd. Alpharetta, GA 30004. Following Mass will be an open house at his home beginning at noon and going on through late evening. Please join us at 14840 Birmingham Highway in Milton to celebrate his life with good stories, food, drinks, and friends.
