Captain Sanders began his commercial flying career 10-16-1967.  He is survived by his wife Judy and by his children and grandchildren.

Kit C. Sanders (89) of Amarillo, Texas and formerly of Hereford, Texas, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. 

Kit was the son of the late O. R. and Johnnie Sanders and was born in Floydada, Texas on August 21, 1935. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1954 and West Texas State College in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Commissioned as a Naval Officer, Kit earned his naval aviator wings in 1958. He was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas; Jacksonville, Florida; and Virginia Beach, Virginia and served on the U.S.S. Forestal and America where he made over 850 carrier landings as an A1 and A4 naval aviator. After honorably serving 10 years in the Navy, Kit joined Pan American Airlines as a 707 pilot. In 1993, he retired from Delta Airlines having served as an A300 pilot. During his flying career, he traveled to over 100 countries and logged more than 25,000 flight hours. In his later years, he was a substitute teacher for Amarillo ISD. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship and actively involved with the Senior Adults Living Triumphantly (SALT) group. In his free time, he could often be found punching holes in paper at Let’s Shoot Gun Club or in his garage reloading ammunition. 

Kit is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy; a sister, Verita Silvertooth of Amarillo; his children Kari George (Wayne) of Stafford, Virginia; Holly Fields (Mike) of El Paso, Texas; Brad Sanders (Paige) of Amarillo, and Wendy Blankenship (Richard) of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Zach Fields of New York, NY; Hayden Blankenship of Amarillo; Will Fields of Austin, Texas; Hunter Blankenship of Katy, Texas; Hannah Boyett of Amarillo; Carson George of Stafford, Virginia; Peyton Sanders and Parker Sanders of Amarillo. He will be dearly missed by all his family and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held at Boxwell Brothers on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at Trinity Fellowship Church Student Ministry Center with Pastor Kyle Wilkinson presiding. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

LAX WA/DL Capt. Robert “Bob” Moore

Word has reached us with news of Captain Moore’s passing…..Robert Lemuel Moore Jr. joined Western Airlines 06-10-1957 and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1991 based LAX.  Bob was 93 years of age at the time of his passing.  He had most recently resided in California at

9 Rutgers Ct., Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.

May 8, 1934 – August 16, 2024

 

We remember long-time and beloved pilot scheduler Edeltraud Dorothea Davis who recently passed at the age of 90.  Ms. Davis hired on with Western Airlines in Los Angles in June 1974.  At the time of her retirement with Delta Air Lines, she was based 061/DFW with more than 20yrs of service.  Much loved by her airline family, Edeltraud was the definition of a survivor as you will see by reading her life story.

Edeltraud Davis 90, passed August 16, 2024, in Lake Forest from complications of Cancer that she had so ardently fought over three remissions within the last fifteen years.

She was born on May 8th, 1934, in East Germany to Georg and Elfriede (Wadowski) Schlichczin. Edeltraud was a strong German woman, with a quick sharp tongue, but she was a survivor with a determined work ethic to stand alone during most of her life to survive in a male dominated workplace, as a single mother of two young boys.

 

Her early childhood was spent in the war-torn streets and fields of Germany, during WW2. She scoured ruined streets, through bombed out and abandoned buildings and cellars, searching for food and coal to keep her family fed and warm. She would relate stories of living in the Russian occupied zones and the horrors the war affect had on her family and country. Then other stories, of being protected by the Russian soldiers from others, wanting to do her harm. Protecting her as she ran from ruin to ruin looking for food. So many atrocities witnessed, so many years of violence and fear, no child should live through.

 

She was the oldest of five siblings, two sisters and two brothers. She and her stepmother, Adelheid (Wadowski) Schlichczin, were for the most part on their own as they fled with her brothers and sisters through the waring districts for safety. Ever moving from town to town, being followed by her father, serving at the time as a Military Motorcycle Police Officer in the German Army.

 

After the wars end, Edeltraud and her family settled in the small town of Ludwigsburg, in western Germany. There in 1954 after many years working in the family laundry she took a job with the United States Army, as a valet assigned to the Southern Area Command near Stuttgart. In September of 1956, with a saddened heart but a need to embrace a new life. Edeltraud to the dismay of her family, decided to leave Germany for the United States. She borrowed $185.00 dollars from the U.S. War Relief Service and boarded a Liberty boat bound for New York and then Chicago, Illinois to start her new life with twenty-five dollars in her pocket.

 

She began work with the Standard Oil Company in 1957 as a Keypunch Operator. Working there till 1958 when she took a position with Union Oil in California. Soon after coming to California, she met James A. Davis, a driver and mechanic. They married and soon after divorced in1963, after having two sons, James and Roger.

 

Edeltraud remained a single mother for the remainder of her life. She raised both sons on her own, at times she worked for three companies simultaneously to make ends meet. In 1974, she landed a position as ‘Crew Scheduler’ for Western Airlines, known now as Delta Airlines. There she remained over 20+ years. This job finally enabled her to provide for her family as a single mother. There she was honored for her work ethic, attendance and punctuality. Sometimes she was known to sleep in her car inside the office garage so not to be late from her overtime shift the previous day. She was adored by the crews she worked with from Western and Delta, making lifelong friends.

 

Edeltraud never stopped working. Working was like breathing, something you don’t stop. She was very frugal, most times to her own detriment. But on her birthday and Christmas she would make sure to have the entire family out for an extravagant dinner and memorable evening with everyone at one table.

 

Survivors include her sons, James and wife Nancy, two sons, Chase and wife, Paige, their sons Rhett and Ryder. Son, Mitchell and wife Kelsey, their son Brecken and daughter Paisley.

WA/DL Capt. Jack B. Bush

USAF veteran, WA/DL Capt. Jack B. Bush

December 11, 1939 ~ June 20, 2024

On the morning of June 20, 2024, Jack B. Bush of Fallbrook, California passed away at the age of 84 years old.

 

Jack was born to Basil and Yudell Bush in December, 1939 in Michigan, where he grew up on a farm. He later attended Northwestern Michigan College and Western Michigan University from which he graduated with a degree in Petrol Distribution in 1963.

 

In August of 1963 Jack joined the United States Air Force. He trained as a pilot in C130s and in July, 1966 he served as part of the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron out of Thailand. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him several awards including The Distinguished Flying Cross. After returning stateside in 1967, he continued his service until 1969 when he left Active Duty to join Western Airlines 02-24-1969 as a pilot. He continued his service in the Air Force Reserves, during which he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired from the Air Force in 1999 and from Delta Air Lines in 2003.

 

Jack was a born leader who loved working with his hands and serving others. In his retirement he grew avocados on his farm in Fallbrook, California where he was able to play with his tractors, head his local road committee and spend time with his family. He was the bedrock and go-to person for lots of his family and friends and his absence will be felt by many.

 

He is survived by his 2 children, Timothy (Christina) Bush and Wendi (Brian) Koshley, his grandchildren Amanda (Koshley) (Jonathan) Awad, Michael Koshley, Rebecca Koshley, Jackson Koshley, and Georgia Bush, his sisters Mary Ann Bush and Nancy Jackson, and his long-time friend Dr. Angeline Dao and her family.

Dave led an extraordinary life, filled with love for his family and friends, a career that took him around the world, and a thirst for knowledge that shaped his entire life.

Dave was a curious kid. From asking his friend’s mom for her oatmeal cookie recipe at 4 years old, to disassembling his parents’ clocks, building ham radios from spare parts, and even attempting to make grenades in the basement, Dave loved anything exciting and mechanical. He thrived on the satisfaction of learning how the world works. As a teen, he built hot rods to drive his friends around, and after conquering automobiles, his next goal was to build an airplane! So, he joined the Montana Air National Guard, and through a special pilot training program, landed a job, and ultimately, a successful three-decade career, retiring as a Captain at Northwest Airlines.

But before his career took off, he met a pretty girl while attending college at the University of Montana. On September 4, 1965, Dave married the love of his life, Linda Ruth Winkler, beginning a journey of love and partnership that would span almost 59 years. Together, they flew small planes, raised two kids and countless dogs, cats, and sheep, and owned and operated the Lindon Bookstore in Enumclaw, serving this community with warmth and knowledge (and Enumclaw’s first Starbucks lattes), for nearly two decades.

Beyond his distinguished careers in aviation and entrepreneurship, Dave was the quintessential jack-of-all-trades, a man of diverse knowledge and impressive talents. Much more than just hobbies, Dave’s “avocations” included restoring and collecting vintage model-A Fords and other antique cars, building biplanes, wood-working and metal-working, collecting firearms from around the world, farming both land and livestock, and later in life, crafting award-winning red and white wines from his own estate-grown grapes.

Dave was a Christian. He was deeply involved in his church community, where he found solace and strength alongside Linda. Dave touched many lives at the churches they attended over the years, but one of his greatest pleasures was spending every Friday afternoon with his “Consortium,” a close-knit group of pastors and friends who shared and prayed together, but also smoked cigars and drank bourbon. In his final days, Dave made a point to assure everyone he talked to that he “knew where he was going,” and encouraged them, through Jesus, to join him (and Him) in Heaven someday.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, son Christopher, daughter Megan and her family, including son-in-law Greg, treasured grandchildren (and spouses), Jesse (Lydia), Reggie (Kara), Hope (Colton), and Grace (Zach), four adorable great-grandchildren, Cohen, Emmet, Elora, and Marlowe Rose, brother Dan (Takeko) and sister Jeanne (Bill) and their families, and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at 2pm, August 17, at Wabash Presbyterian Church in Auburn, with on-site reception to follow. All friends of Dave and Linda are invited to attend. Heartfelt recognition to Continuum Hospice Care and Hospitality Home Care for their compassionate service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to Care Net of Puget Sound (supportcnps.org)
