___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our PCN Flight West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

As Far As I Remember Paperback – 29 October 2025

by Charles Welsh (Author)

I had a very active life I was an Army Brat, moving 24 times and attending 10 schools. I spent 34 1/2 years in the Army, from the Pennsylvania National Guard to West Point to Artillery Officer to Pilot. I resigned from active duty and joined Northwest Airlines when I retired in 1999. I also remained in the Army Reserve where I retired in 1961 as a Colonel. My first wife, Nicolet DePree, felt she couldn't make me happy and we divorced in 1983. However 2 years later she introduced me to Nancy Potts, who changed her name to NanSea Welsh. Nicky knew we shared many interests including tennis, skiing and traveling. For the next 38 years we had a marvelous life. We skied in most of the resorts in the us and many in Europe. We vacationed in 50 US states and two provinces in Canada. We traveled to 63 countries throughout the world and cruised on river and ocean ship for more than 400 days. .

Vita:

After two tours in VN, I resigned in March 1969 to get out of S. Alabama, S. Georgia, and S. Vietnam. We moved to the South Puget Sound Area and lived there since. Went to work part-time (through numerous strikes) for Northwest Airlines. The Army Reserve kept food on the table until 1979. During the next twenty years, I flew the B-727, B-707, DC-10, and B-747 for Northwest Airlines. I retired from the Army Reserve in 1991 as a colonel, and in 1999 as a captain on the 747. I’d rather be a captain with a chicken in my lap than a colonel with an eagle on my shoulder. Since then, NanSea and I have spent our time playing tennis, skiing, and traveling. Tennis ended in 2009, but still sking and traveling.
