Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Patrick James Fisher, 1925-2013

Born in Buxton, OR to Frank and Margaret Fisher. Graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1943. He served in the Navy in WWII aboard the USS Fred T. Berry as Radarman. Upon discharge he continued in Radio at Multnomah college and started Flight Training.
In 1946 he married Helen Fox, sharing a long and loving marriage for 67 years.
In 1950 he moved his family to Anchorage, AK where he was a Radio Engineer at station KFQD and continued Flight Training. Soon he was flying the greater Alaska Bush in a single engine and float planes. Later became a Flight Instructor at Merrill Field. After twin engine training he became a Commercial Pilot with Pacific Northern Airlines, eventually merging with Western/Delta. He retired as Captain after 32 years. He felt honored to have flown the last Lockheed "Connie" commercial flight in the U.S.

At retirement, he and his sons started a refrigerated trucking company in five states. After 6 years he gave up his rights as the onset of deregulation.

Pat was an avid reader and enjoyed being home with his family. Soaring became his hobby. We remember his humor came easily - his boldness helped him to meet his life's goals.
He is survived by his wife Helen; brother Michael Fisher of Brush Prairie, sister Patricia Powers of Kelso, WA; four sons, Michael (Gretchen) of Tacoma WA, Daniel (Terry) of Auburn, WA, Lawrence of Kent, WA, Stephen (Joy) of Sumner, WA; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to the kind staff at Hallmark Manor.

At Pat's request there will be no services. Remembrances may be made to Children's Hospital or cancer research; or a  charity of your choice.

Dag Alfson Hauge

Passed away November 8, 2013 at the age of 79. He was born May 3, 1934 in Trondheim, Norway. Dag lived in Hamar, Norway as a child and then moved to Oslo as a teenager. As a child growing up during WWII, he fell in love with airplanes and set his sights on being a pilot at a very young age. Dag also loved ski jumping and followed his older brother, Thor, to Montana State University on a ski jumping scholarship in the 1950's. His love of planes took him to Northrop Institute in California where he focused on all things aviation. During that time he met his wife-to-be, Gudrun. In 1961, Dag was offered a job at Boeing and he and Gudrun moved to Washington State and started their family. In 1963, he realized his dream job and was hired as a pilot for Northwest Orient Airlines. During this time he became involved with the opening of Crystal Mountain Ski Resort as a ski instructor and member of the ski patrol. The family moved to Gig Harbor in 1967 where they enjoyed many good times on Horsehead Bay with friends. Boating was a much loved recreational activity for Dag and Gudrun. They sailed the Hawaiian Islands with friends and had many adventures traveling up the inside passage to British Columbia and Alaska, where they enjoyed secluded anchorages and abundant natural beauty. Dag is preceded in death by his wife Gudrun, brothers Thor and Jens and his parents Alf and Charlotte. He is survived by his brother, Ketil, his children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Weatherly Inn in Tacoma on Sunday December 8th at 1pm with a reception at the family home following. In lieu of flowers any remembrances can be made to the  Alzheimer's Association.

RC/NWA Capt. R. Darrell Cantrell
August 18, 1941 ~ Oct. 21, 2013

Notification with the passing of NWA retired pilot Captain Richard Darrell Cantrell, age 72.  I believe Captain Cantrell hired on with Northwest’s predecessors 11-24-1969 and would have retired with NWA in 2001.  Captain Cantrell had most recently resided at 932 Riverdale Rd.,  Ozark  MO 65721-6563.

 Obituary.......

Darrell passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2013 at home with his family. Darrell was born August 18, 1941 to Yale and Leona Cantrell. He enjoyed an ideal youth and would often talk about growing up in Springfield with his buddies and girlfriends; he graduated from central High School in 1959. Darrell had a love affair with cars from an early age, from a "56 Chevy to a '63 Jaguar KXE, he enjoyed nothing better than working on and driving fast cars. After graduation he joined the National Guard where he began another love, that of flying. After his service he began his piloting career with a small company in Springfield known as Sun Airlines. Captain Cantrell had a distinguished career with Sun, Southern, Republic, Northwest, and Delta Airlines. He flew many different planes, from a DC-3 to a Boeing 787 which he enjoyed all immensely, but his real joy was the friends he made along the way. Captain Cantrell flew until he retired in 2001; he split his time between Ozark, Missouri and Lighthouse Point, Florida ( he did not like cold weather). Darrell was a proud member on many philanthropic organizations; Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, Grand Lodge of Missouri (50 year member), Grand Commander of Knights Templar, Royal Arch Masons and Abou Ben Adhem Shriners. In his retirement he focused in his hot rods ( rebuilding a 1957 Chevy Special delivery), his dogs Teak, Woody, Jelly, Aspen and Luna. He would often invite his friends to his homes for their vacations and he was the perfect host. Darrell also enjoyed seeing his buddies and would often meet them out at "The Mill" for good times and to reminisce about earlier days. If there was one thing he wanted to be remembered for it would be simply being a great friend to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Yale and Leona Cantrell and his aunt Maxine Hays. Darrell is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ronda and Jerry Day of Springfield:his nephew and his family, Greg, Valerie, Branden and Bailey Day of Nixa, Aspen and Luna; and his many, many friends and loved ones, too numerous to mention. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with services to be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at Greenlawn North funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
