Obituary….Walter J. PISZCZEK

January 14, 1936 - September 17, 2020

After enduring a 3 year take-off check and an extended taxi to the runway threshold - Captain Walter J. Piszczek was issued his final departure instructions and cleared for takeoff on his eternal flight westbound. Walter departed peacefully from his family home at "Bethania Mineral Springs" in Osceola, WI. Wally was age 84.

Wally settled into Retirement on his rural St.Croix River Farm after a thirty year career with Northwest Airlines leaving the left seat of the 747-400 for the last time on January 14th, 1996. Wally's professional accomplishments throughout his life are legendary. From his exploits as a Naval Aviator, Aeronautical Engineer with NASA and Astronaut Candidate, Gemini 7 & 8, Apollo 1 Launch Preparation Engineer, William Mitchell College of Law Degree, Member of the Minnesota State Bar, Senior Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Osceola Village Board Trustee and a valued Member of the Osceola Airport committee.

On the farm - Walt was a skilled machinist, welder and woodworker – Wally's driven work habits were unmatched in his desire to create and build systems that were meaningful to him – and to his hope – others. He could be found building boats, airplanes and developing his wind power project even welding artistic sculpture in his Barn/shop while listening to Twins games or classical music.

Captain Walter was a man of extraordinary personal and professional accomplishments that were only exemplified by how he conducted his life – with hard work, dignity, courage and humility. Wally the Dad and Walter the Uncle are forever surrounded by the legacy of his extraordinary family - settled all over the world from Osceola to Florida, Great Britain, Ireland and South Africa. He will be sorely missed, thought of fondly and forever admired in every circle he ever entered. "The Pennsylvania coal mine was reality for me, I just had to work harder" – WJP - RIP. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Osceola, WI. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Grandstrand Funeral Home, Osceola, WI and one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, East Farmington, WI. 715-294-3111 www.grandstrandfh.com

Obituary:  James Michael Hines, age 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at his home in Newport, WA comforted by his wife. Born 1950 in Columbus, OH to the late Wendell Hines and Patricia Hines, Hiner, as he was known by friends and family, is survived by his wife, Jean Hines; son Michael Hines and his wife Carrie from Chanhassen, MN, daughter Ansley Hidalgo and her husband Javier from Newnan GA; grandchildren Sebastian Hidalgo (15), Patrick Hines (7), Makenzie Hines (4), and Savannah Hines (4), sister Linda Marshall and husband Greg, brother Don Hines and wife Sylvia, and sister Sue Hines Beaudu.

Jim knew at an early age he wanted to be a pilot. He went to high school in Lemoore, California and graduated Valedictorian of his class. He received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy and served his country for 28 years including a tour in Vietnam. Jim was assigned to the S3, an anti-submarine aircraft, serving on the carriers USS Saratoga and USS Constellation, as well as time as an instructor at North Island near San Diego. In 1980, Jim joined Delta Air Lines where he would captain multiple planes over his 35-year career.

Jim was known for his big heart and great sense of humor. He consistently cracked jokes and played pranks on people just to make them smile and laugh. Costumes were common for Jim. He spent several Oktoberfest’s in lederhosen and Halloweens with his grandkids dressed as a clown with a water spraying boutonniere. Often there was no occasion when he would appear with buck teeth, mullet hats or a bright blue tuxedo. His closest friends recall his impish grin and the mischievous glint in his eye.

He was never just a participant in any organization or activity, rather he always assumed a leadership role. Jim was a doer. If anyone had an idea, he could take it and make it happen. He served as Fire Commissioner for Pend Oreille County for three years, President of Bead Lake Homeowners Association, and as Grand Knight of The Knights of Columbus of Newport WA. In addition, he was extremely active in his church, serving on the Parrish Advisory and dedicating time and resources to renovate the rectory of St. Anthony’s church. For fun, he was the founder and President of the Vintage Riders, a Honda 90 motorcycle gang of active adults who participated in the local parade. He enjoyed boating with friends and family, whether at his home on Bead Lake, or captaining a sailboat through the Caribbean, which would not be complete without a daily reading of the Captain’s Log. Jim loved spending time at home on Bead Lake, hosting friends who he would take snowmobiling, boating, and spending time in the Steerage playing shake of the day and drinking ‘Hearty Pink” wine. He and his wife Jean traveled extensively around the world both for work and pleasure. Jim spent many long weekends traveling to watch football; Navy, Notre Dame, and Green Bay Packers were his favorite. He especially loved playing and hosting trivia at the local tavern, devoting many hours a week to creating his own questions. Jim continued to enjoy these activities throughout his three-year battle with cancer, even hosting trivia two weeks prior to his passing.

The funeral service for Jim is Friday, August 21, 2020 at 2pm in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 612 W. First Street, Newport WA. A celebration of Jim’s life will occur August 22 at a location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Jim’s name to St. Anthony’s Parish of Newport, WA.

Sherman-Campbell Funeral and Cremation Services in Newport is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at shermancampell.com

Obituary:  Harry Robert Beard, 86, formerly of Doylestown, was cleared to land in Heaven on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Flying was his passion, duty, career, and his way of inviting the timid and the brave to experience life at the controls.

Growing up on the family airport in Chambersburg, he learned to fly while still in school, and after graduation entered the Air Force, serving stateside, in Okinawa and in Vietnam. After 20 years’ service, he retired from “flying a desk” at the Pentagon, moved his family to Doylestown, and joined Ransome Airlines in 1973, getting back into the air. Pan Am followed, with international destinations.

Harry retired from Delta in 1993 but over the years owned several small aircraft that he used to introduce friends and family to his love of flying. After retirement, he converted his 1791 stone farmhouse into the Peace Valley Bed & Breakfast, wisely outsourcing the baked goods so he could focus on making his guests feel at home. In his later years, he found enjoyment piloting and towing gliders at Van Sant Airport and the Philadelphia Glider Council.

Harry, who went by “Jim” for much of his life, was always concerned with the well-being of others, serving as deacon and elder at Lenape Valley Church, as a mentor in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Bucks County, as a volunteer at Life Abundant Inc. and as host to immigrant Laotian families fleeing the violence of their homeland. He epitomized the Greatest Generation — a man of many accomplishments well hidden beneath a humble, thoughtful persona.

Born July 21, 1933, in Waynesboro, Pa. to Robert Harry and Catherine (Hawbecker) Beard, he graduated from Chambersburg High School and the University of Nebraska Omaha. While in the Air Force, he married Joan (Duncklee) Beard in Scranton, Pa., in 1957. His son Mark was born in 1958 and son Scott in 1961. In 1966, the family moved to Okinawa and remained there while he served in Vietnam. In 1971, the family returned to Alexandria, Va., moving to Doylestown in 1973.

In 1992, Harry married Jane Foster (Donovan) Beard, and they moved to Souderton in 2010.

In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by sons Mark (Allison) Beard of Doylestown and Scott (JoAnn) Beard of Lake Ariel, PA.; Kevin (Phyllis) Foster of Claymont, DE; Sean (Robin) Foster of Highland, MD; Megan (Joseph) McClaskey of Quakertown, PA; Cullen (Karin) Foster of Mt. Wolf, PA; his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his twin brothers, Raymond (Sue) Beard and Richard Beard, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; and sister, Patricia (Gene) Hughes of Manchester, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Cook and Betty Kennedy.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Obituary:  Paul Pandolfi
The stars shone a little less brightly on the evening of Friday, Sept. 4, 2020. The soul of Paul Thomas Pandolfi ascended into the Heavens and eclipsed them all.

Paul was born on March 11, 1941, to Emma Louisa (Elliman) and Dominic Flavio Pandolfi.
His childhood years were spent in Homewood, Ill. He attended Bloom High School.

He matriculated at The University of The South in Sewanee, Tenn. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. While a student there, he was known as St. Paul (as well as several other nicknames that are not suitable for print).

During his years at Sewanee, Paul was a member of the Honor Council, the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and The Los Peones Drinking Society. Other activities included brewing beer and raising chickens in his dorm room as well as smoking cigarettes with the dorm matron. He graduated as a member of the Class of 1963 but part of his heart always remained on The Mountain.

Paul achieved the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga. He was a flight instructor on the Northrop T-38 Talon, a twin-jet supersonic jet. He was awarded membership into the MACH Busters Club for exceeding the speed of sound in the T-38.

He continued his love for flight as a Captain for Delta Airlines and was based out of Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta, Ga. He traveled the entire world flying for 31 years. He spent more than a year of his life in the air.

Paul was a member of The Golden Isles Sailing Club. He enjoyed racing his boat, Serenity, and was often victorious! He was also a member of the Radio Controlled Airplane Club. He spent countless hours building his own elaborate RC planes. He could, in fact, repair or build anything from a jet engine to a toy box for a grandchild.

Paul was handsome and charming, kind and wise. He had a quick smile and a rapier wit which was often irreverent. There was an inherent risk in sitting beside him at solemn occasions as you never knew when he was going to make a random comment that would have you clutching your stomach and biting your lip trying desperately to maintain your composure.

He loved animals, any kind. He bottle-fed baby squirrels and saved injured fledglings. He owned, or was owned by, many dogs and cats and the occasional exotic bird. He left behind his cat, Kitty and his dog Sue, both of whom are anxiously awaiting his return.

Paul loved his family. He and his beloved wife, Nancy, sailed and traveled throughout their marriage, from Snow Trains to Africa. They delighted in each other's company.

He adored his grandchildren and loved sharing stories of their adventures and successes.

He also enjoyed sending them silly text messages just so that they would know that he was thinking of them.

His wife, Nancy, his daughters, Sally (Dennis) Bradley, Wendy (Jeff) Capes, Peggy (Michael) Cohen; and his son, Henry (Benham) Bishop; grandchildren Carrie Bradley Coleman, Caitlin Capes, Jackson Capes, John Cole (and fianc e Anna Lococo), Virginia Cole, Carlisle Cohen, Parks Cohen, Hank (Caitlin) Bishop, Ben Bishop and Jack Bishop; and his most treasured great-grandson, Austin Barrett Coleman are left behind to cherish his memory and celebrate his life.

" If there ever comes a day when we can't be together,
Keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever."
A.A. Milne

You are in our hearts. Rest well.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia.

Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Diane Royer Norris; his daughter, Jessica Norris Callaham and her husband Steve; grandchildren Ryan and Madeline. He is preceded in death by his parents, Farold and Marie Norris. Vernon was born in Washington DC on October 15, 1946. He attended the University of Maryland and upon graduation in 1968, joined the Air Force pilot training program. In 1971, he met Diane at Capon Springs, a family resort in West Virginia where he often vacationed with his parents as a child, and they were married a year later.
After serving in the Air Force, he began his career with Delta Airlines in 1973. During his 30-year career as a pilot, he rose to the rank of international captain before retiring in 2003. During retirement, he fulfilled a dream of owning a vacation home in Hawaii and spent a lot of time there hiking and exploring the islands. He also planned memorable family trips to Disney, Hawaii, Washington DC, and the Grand Canyon. Every year, he looked forward to the annual family trip to Capon Springs and visiting the family farmhouse with Diane’s extended family. When he was not traveling, he was very active in attending Ryan’s golf tournaments and Madeline’s gymnastics competitions.
