Edward Michael Mucha: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice

Edward Michael Mucha, age 58, passed away at home with family by his side on April 21, 2014, at 11 a.m., 15 months after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., Ed accomplished much in his short life. After receiving a BS in chemistry and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, Ed joined the U.S. Navy Air Training Program. He served as a Navy Pilot, flying observation flights over the Atlantic Ocean and then continued as a Naval Reserve officer. Following his active military career, he flew as a pilot-captain for Northwest Airlines until the merger with Delta and then continued to fly for Delta until January 2013. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry L. and Susan Smorag Mucha; he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Smith Mucha; three sons originally from Poland, Arthur (Kristina), John, and Gregory. He is also survived by his siblings, Susan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Tom (Susan) of Ft. Meyers, Fla., Gregory of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Joyce (John) of Anchorage, Alaska. Ed spent many years devoted to our country, first as a pilot in the Navy, then about five years ago, he picked up the activist banner of the "Veterans for Peace," whose mission is to abolish war and to expose the true cost of war. He believed our true nature is compassion but somewhere along the way we have gotten side-tracked. Ed chose to have his body donated for scientific research. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Veterans For Peace, www.veteransforpeace.org , or the Polaris Project, www.polarisproject.org , is what Ed would have liked.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 45 years, Harry S. Koch III. She is survived by her daughter, Katie Saintcross, husband Cullen, her son Harry S. Koch IV, wife Angela, and their son, Brady Alexander, her ultimate joy.
Kiki had many loving friends who supported and cared for her. We are indebted to two beautiful women, Annaliza Borja and Dawn James for their unwavering commitment to her for the past several years. They had many laughs together.
Kiki had an incredible desire for knowledge and understanding and was always exploring the internet, books and newspapers. One of the people she admired most was Albert E. Einstein and his quoted words: "There are only two ways to live your live. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
She was funny, smart, gregarious, generous and exceptionally loving. She exercised daily, attended ceramics regularly, loved going out to lunch or dinner and had become an exceptionally skilled knitter. Her death was a surprise to all who knew her and she will be missed dearly. We are grateful for the memories and she will live on eternally in our hearts and minds.

Causeway Blvd. at 43rd Street, Metairie, LA on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Kiki was also an exceptional host and loved to care for others and would welcome your presence at the reception following at her home.

Death of Pan Am Captain Maurice Proctor

Below is the obituary of a dear friend and former neighbor, Maurice Proctor.  Maurice began flight training with the US Army Air Corps at the beginning of WWll and later joined Pan American for a successful 33 years of service.  When not flying Maurice's favorite past time was fishing in the Gulf Stream and playing bridge.  He took great pleasure in taking kids of deceased father's fishing.  Maurice was definitely of the Greatest Generation.

After retiring from Pan Am in 1975 Maurice moved to The Redlands near Homestead, FL and farmed avocados.  A graveside service with military honors was held in Benson, NC April 9,20114.

Thanks,

DL F/A Brooke Phillips Ziegler, wife of DL Capt. Robert W. Ziegler

In Memory of  Brooke Elizabeth Ziegler

December 4, 1953 - April 14, 2014

Brooke Elizabeth Ziegler, age 60, of 6815 Barkworth Drive, Dallas, TX, adored wife of Bob, and beloved mother of Rob, Claire and Gayle, passed away after bravely battling leukemia on April 14, 2014.

Brooke was born in Lansing, Michigan on December 4, 1953 to Robert Phillips and Dorothy Richardson Phillips. Brooke grew up in Fort Wayne and Muncie Indiana and graduated from Muncie Northside High School in 1972. In 1978 she graduated from Ball State University. During this time Brooke developed a love of travel and this passion led to her life-long career at Delta Airlines where she was hired in June, 1979 as a Flight Attendant. In 1983 Brooke went on a Delta Learn To Ski week in Copper Mountain, Colorado with friends and met the love of her life and future husband, Bob Ziegler, a Delta Pilot. Bob lived in New Orleans, LA while Brooke was based in Chicago and in August 25, 1984 they were married and settled in Dallas, TX. Together they raised three children, Robert (Rob) William, Claire Jacqueline, and Gayle Theresa, the lights of their lives.

As a devoted parent, Brooke dedicated herself to her children. She was a member of the Prestonwood Elementary, Parkhill JH and Pearce HS PTA. She attended and actively participated in all of her children's sports and school activities. While raising her children, Brooke introduced them to world cultures through international travel. Frequently her family accompanied her on "Delta Dream Vacations" throughout Europe and abroad.

Brooke's love of life and passion for adventure was infectious. Everyone she came in contact with enjoyed and appreciated her honest and frank nature. Brooke's numerous community involvements included Troop Care (sending care packages to our troops overseas), Pearce Women's Community League and the Richardson Junior League. After 9/11 Brooke collected and donated funds to the NYFD which she personally hand delivered in NYC. Brooke was diagnosed with AML leukemia 5/17/13. The following September, to pay it forward, she and her family organized a "Be The Match" drive at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas. Her efforts and notoriety resulted in a substantial increase of awareness in the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. Brooke derived joy, peace and satisfaction from being with friends, especially her Bunko group, her extended family, book club, bible study group, exercising, biking, walking, and playing golf.

In addition to her husband and children, Brooke is survived by her siblings: Tracy Hayse, her husband Richard, Mark Phillips, his wife Sue, Coby Odom, Jake Phillips, and his wife Val. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Seth and Heather Hayse, Aaron and Logan Hayse. Jake, Sam, Emily and Rachel Phillips, Caitlin and Luke Odom, Kelsey and Kenzie Phillips. Her in-laws included: Linda and Ed Gomez and family, Jill and Peter Corr and family, Jack and Carol Ziegler and family. Others include countless friends and extended family.

She was predeceased by her infant son Luke Thomas (March 9, 1988) and parents Robert (1986) and Dorothy Phillips (1989).

A Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 21 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, TX at 6:00 PM immediately followed by a Celebration of Life. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Drive, Dallas TX 75248, at 11:00 AM. A Reception will immediately follow in the Parish Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to www.bethematch.org  in Brooke's memory.

Subject: Brooke's legacy

Dear Friends,

As I have thought about our friend Brooke over the past few days, it is her children that come to the forefront of my mind.  It is painful to think that they may not know the Brooke that we had fun with when they were growing up and the younger Brooke from high school and college.

I have decided to put together a book comprised of individual submissions from anyone who will participate in hopes of giving her children a glimpse of their mother from the eyes of her peers and young friends.  Our memories can give them laughter and a history of the mother who left too soon.  They can share this with each other and their future families as they grow older in hopes of introducing the next generation to the Grandmother that they will never have an opportunity to meet in person.

It is my  hope that this effort can take on momentum by asking each of you to post and spread the word in any media outlet you have to alert anyone who may want to share a story or photo for this book.  I have created an email to submit photos and stories. It is my vision to chronicle her life and give her children more than simple well wishes.   If possible please send your memory in a word document.  I am going to put a deadline of December 1st with a goal of having a Christmas gift that will make the holidays brighter for Brooke's family. I will include my address in the event her parent's friends, much like my own mother, would prefer the mail.

Please give this your consideration and thought and SPREAD THIS AROUND. We can make this a lasting legacy.

Send all submissions to  brookesmemory@gmail.com
