Richard Albert Allis passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025. He was 84 years old. “Dick” was born on November 6, 1940. He was raised by Bert and Leah Salisbury-Allis in the small towns west of Rochester, New York. He was the oldest of four children; two younger brothers Bob and Jan, who preceded him in death; and one sister, Diane Allis-Wurzburg, the youngest of the siblings.

Dick met Jan, his eventual wife, a few days after arriving at Bowling Green State University in Ohio; It was Jan’s first day of college. They began dating and married just before their senior year. Dick and Jan celebrated their 62nd anniversary on September 1, 2024.

Dick joined ROTC in college and was a distinguished military graduate. He immediately moved to flight training in the U.S. Air Force in Selma, Alabama, just before the historic march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, so the move was a very momentous beginning to his Air Force career. The next year he flew B-47s in the Strategic Air Command (SAC), standing on alert and flying nuclear weapons. The Air Force took Dick and Jan many places during his time of service. They lived in Selma, AL, and Mountain Home, ID, while he was in SAC. When he transitioned to the C-130, he served his time in Taipei, Taiwan, Hampton, VA, Vietnam, the far East, Europe and finally home in the US.

The couple settled in Georgia for the next six decades, most of that time spent in Peachtree City. They raised two children, Patrick and Sheryl. Dick continued professional piloting for Delta Air Lines. He flew many different aircraft types for Delta during his career and also served many other valuable roles including Line-Check Airman. Dick retired from flying in 2000, after 32 years of service.

Dick began his life-long love of athletics in high school by becoming the captain of the basketball team. He continued playing basketball throughout his college years. In addition to basketball, Dick was an avid bicyclist, runner, and tennis player. He played tennis on a Delta Air Lines team and in Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA). Dick joined the Peachtree City Running Club and was also a member of the SouthSide Cycling Club. He never stopped participating with these organizations, continuing to volunteer when his physical limitations didn’t allow him to run or bike.

Dick was a firm believer in giving back to his community. After retirement, he volunteered at the Clothes Less Traveled for over 20 years. He organized and repaired electronics as well as bikes. He was also well-known in the community for accepting donations of broken bikes and repairing them for needy kids. He began this project 30 years ago, and has repaired thousands of bicycles to give back to his community.

Besides his wife Janet, he leaves behind his two children and their spouses, Patrick and Andrea Allis; Sheryl and John Young; and four grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Allis and Joshua and Jordan Young. Dick will be missed immeasurably by his community, friends, neighbors, and his family.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA at 2:00pm.

Carolyn Guthrie Long, age 85, of Denton TX, passed away on March 15th, from complications of cancer. Carolyn is survived by her husband retired Delta Air Lines pilot and Delta Golden Wings member Captain Leslie Clark Long.  Please see obituary information below for services and visitation.

For those who may wish to send a personal note, condolences may be sent to

Carolyn Guthrie Long, 85, of Denton, Texas, passed away on March 15, 2025, from complications of cancer. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on September 9, 1939, to Burwell and Bessie Guthrie.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, Les Long, her son, David Long, of Marietta, Oklahoma; her daughter, Sharon Long (Diane), and their son, Leo, of Austin, Texas. She also leaves behind her sister, Jeanne Branscum (Mac) of Laverne, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law, Saundra Guthrie, of Arlington, Texas; as well as nieces Myrna, Carie, Bobbie, Lisa, Paige, nephew Ron, and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins, including the Myers and Guthrie families.

Carolyn grew up on a farm near Enid, Oklahoma. It was there in 1960 that she met Les, while he was stationed at Vance Air Force Base. After leaving the Air Force, they settled in North Texas. She devoted herself to being an amazing mother, creating a fun and loving childhood for her children. In 1997, Carolyn earned a BSN in nursing from Texas Women’s University and worked in postpartum care at Denton Community Hospital.

Family and friends were at the core of Carolyn’s life, and she deeply valued her extended family connections. She had the unique gift of making each person feel special, cherished and close. Whether sending cards, making phone calls, or visiting relatives near and far, she always found

ways to show her love and care. She especially cherished her relationship with her grandson Leo; he is the light of her life. Carolyn played piano and had a love of music throughout her life that she shared with Leo.  Nurturing his interest in music, she bought him a piano when he was 7. He is now becoming an accomplished musician, thanks in part to her.  She was always thrilled to attend his recitals and concerts as well as support his interests and hobbies.

Carolyn was a spirited, fun-loving woman who did things her own way- like having dessert before dinner – putting jalapenos on popcorn – and inviting her horses into the house!  Her adventurous spirit (with a mischievous streak) left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Carolyn’s adventurous side also extended to her hobbies. Summer days boating on the lake with her family and friends were special. She was quite an athlete who enjoyed horseback riding, playing soccer, biking, karate, and skiing (snow and water).  No injury could slow her down for long—her determination and love of life were truly remarkable. Carolyn had a deep love for travel and adventure. She traveled extensively with Les, family and friends, with a special fondness for Europe and the Caribbean. Together with Les, she enjoyed a vibrant social life, whether at their home, Corvette club, or the Denton Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Charles, Winston, and LeRoy Guthrie; as well as her nieces Greta and Olivia, and nephews Brady and Paul.

A brief service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 11, 2025, at St Paul Lutheran Church, Denton, Texas.  This will be immediately followed by a lunch celebrating her life at the Denton Country Club at approximately 11:30am.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or your local animal shelter.

Nancy was born in 1944 in Massachusetts to Richard and Elizabeth Rowe. She was the oldest of four children. Nancy earned a degree from Emory University and began a teaching career that lasted until 1970 when she became a mother to twin girls.

In the mid-70’s, Nancy earned a Master’s in Primary Education, which she used for several years as a school counselor at Gwin Oaks Elementary in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 1991, after raising her girls, Nancy went back to school again and received a Master’s in Counseling. From that point on she was off to the races. She would “have coffee” with women, listening to their stories and giving sought-after advice. She was never paid for these sessions and more often than not, also bought the coffee.

She was a faithful student of the Bible, attending Allgood Road UMC, Perimeter Church, and most recently, North Hills Church. Wherever she attended, she was a part of the women’s Bible study. She loved studying God’s word with other sisters in Christ in her churches, and also with Bible Study Fellowship.

Joe was born in Los Angeles, California on February 28, 1935 to Joseph and Alma Amendt. He grew up

in southern California, graduated from Alhambra High School and attended Long Beach State where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member and president of the CA Tau Beta Pi

Engineering Honor Society. Joe was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Germany for 2 years with the “Big Red 1” first infantry division, and served in the Army Reserve for several years after that. His first professional engineering position was at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Joe married Jane Frisone in 1954, they had one daughter, Cynthia, and later divorced. In 1964, he married Katherine Moore and they had four children, Katherine, Joseph, Michael and Matthew, and later divorced. He married Shirley Sorenson in 1986, combining their families with Shirley's children,

Catherine and Phillip. They moved to Watertown, SD in 1979 and settled on a property that he loved on the south side of Lake Pelican - naturally, with its own air strip.

Captain Joe had a lifelong love of aviation that started with an introductory flight at the age of 14 in an Aeronca L-16. He described it as magical, “not like we were climbing but as if the earth was falling away below us”. Soon after he got a job at the El Monte airport in southern California and began his flight training. His first solo was in a Piper PA-11 and he received his private pilot certificate at age 16. His career path was clearly set with this milestone and he was hired by Northwest Orient Airlines in 1966. He began commercial flying as a 2nd officer on a Boeing 707. During the 1980s his flight proficiency and passion drove him to new heights as he was type rated as Captain on 5 different aircraft simultaneously, a distinguished accomplishment. He was Captain on the 747-400 at the culmination of his commercial aviation career. In 1995 at age 60, he took his mandatory retirement from NWA with over 25,000 hours of flight time “without scratching a soul or bending any metal”. His technical expertise also took him on a pathway into aviation mechanics where he obtained and held an A & P and Inspection Authorization (IA) certification. No aircraft was outside of his interest, and he received his helicopter rating in 1977. He delighted in flying and tinkering with his Piper Apache and his 172 and 150 Cessnas. Outside of aviation, he also enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, reading and instructing those around him in all areas of aeronautics, engineering and politics (being a frequent commentator on KWAT's Whats Up show).

Joe was preceded in death by wife Shirley Amendt, mother Alma Amendt, father Joseph Amendt Sr. and daughter Cynthia Amendt.

Joe is survived by his children, Katherine Amendt (Irwin Hershkovitz) of Minnetonka, MN, Joseph

Amendt (Jennifer) of Plymouth, MN, Michael Amendt (Marie) of Santa Ana CA, Matthew Amendt of

University Place, WA, Catherine Brown (Jack) of Brandon, SD and Phillip Brugger of Watertown, SD, his grandchildren, Kelsey Hershkovitz, Madison Hershkovitz and Samuel Hershkovitz all of the Twin Cities and his feisty dog, Ralphie.

Joe was a devout Catholic and enjoyed doing the rosary daily. We will miss seeing him in the front row at Holy Name Catholic Church.

Barbara Colleen Jones of Greensboro GA

August 21, 1939 ~ January 5, 2024

On Friday, January 5th, 2024, Barbara Colleen Jones, the beautiful wife of Ronald Jones, our

wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all left us to meet her

Lord and Savior after battling cancer for the second time. Barbara never met a stranger and

became an instant friend to everyone she met. If you had a chance to meet her, your life would

have been uplifted to the next level. Her passion for life brought such joy and happiness into the

world not to mention her humor and infectious laughter. It is not often that you meet such a

special person who spreads joy and kindness wherever her travels took her. Our mother majored

in being the matriarch of our family where she shared a 63-year love story with our father who

was her husband and best friend.
