Richard Stone Obituary

Salt Lake City, Utah-Captain Richard (Dick) Banfe Stone died peacefully on November 23, 2025 with family and his wife, Ruth, of almost 72 years by his side. Never one to sit idle, he spent his professional career as a commercial airline pilot while also actively participating in the Air Line Pilots Association investigating cockpit noise, pilot medical issues, human factors in aviation, and aircraft accidents. Frequently, family dinners were interrupted by requests for him to talk to a pilot in need or to investigate the latest aircraft accident. He loved to tell stories from his accident investigations, focusing not on his intelligence, but his commonsense contributions. "I was never the smartest person in the room, but I was a hard worker," he often said. A plaque bearing Dick's name hangs in the Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. for his work on aircraft accident investigation.

Dick's energy was immense. When he wasn't flying airplanes or investigating accidents, he was skiing, playing bridge, golf, handball or tennis, fly fishing, making Hungarian food, throwing pottery, tying flies, making wine, growing a victory garden, building furniture, playing the piano, or volunteering for The Nature Conservancy.

Dick was born on June 23, 1932, to Irving Charles Stone and Mary Banfe Stone at their home on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. While attending the University of Illinois, Dick met the love of his life, Ruth, when he followed her home from church. They married on January 31, 1954, and after graduating from college, Dick began serving as a pilot in the United States Air Force, living in Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas.

In 1957, Dick and Ruth moved to Massachusetts where he began working as a commercial airline pilot for Northeast Air Lines which merged with Delta Airlines.

Dick and Ruth settled their family in Hampton, New Hampshire. In 1966, Dick's took up skiing, patiently lacing his daughters' boots, attaching their cable bindings and teaching them to ski.

In 1978, Dick and Ruth moved to Atlanta, Georgia to enable Dick to fly large aircraft overseas for the final 14 years of his career. Upon retirement in 1992 and with 26,000 flight hours, Dick and Ruth moved to Bountiful, Utah where Dick enjoyed fly fishing, golfing and especially skiing at Alta with the "Wild Old Bunch." Dick was elected serve as the President of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators and served for two terms.

Dick and Ruth moved to The Ridge Foothill in 2021 and enjoyed dining with their new friends. Dick continued to ski until 2021. Dick moved to Memory Care at The Ridge in March of 2025 and enjoyed daily lunches with Ruth and their friends. The family is deeply thankful to the kind and caring staff members at the Ridge and at Canyon Home Care and Hospice.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ruth, his brother Irving, his three daughters, Katherine Carpenter (Chuck), Mary Dumler (Richard), Karin Hobbs (Lincoln), six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Dick is a member of Christ United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Ronald Barnett Obituary

Obituary by Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory

Ronald Lemoine Barnett, 58, of Beaver County, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 7, 2025, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Born on May 18, 1967, Ron lived a life defined by devotion to his family, dedication to aviation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in everything he did.

Ron discovered his love for flying at a young age and began his training at Moore Aviation at the Beaver County Airport, where he earned his ratings and later returned as a flight instructor. He shared his passion by teaching and mentoring new pilots, many of whom credited him with shaping the very beginning of their aviation careers. Ron went on to graduate from Geneva College, completing the educational foundation that supported his lifelong work as a professional aviator.

Ron's airline career began at Chautauqua Airlines and continued at Northwest Airlines before he joined Delta Air Lines, where he served with great pride. As a Line Check Captain on the Airbus A330, he was respected for his calm leadership, deep operational knowledge, and ability to mentor pilots during some of the most important transitions of their careers. Flying was never just a job to Ron-it was his calling, his craft, and one of his greatest joys.

In addition to his flying career, Ron contributed significantly to pilot advocacy and labor work through roles with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). He served on several committees at Northwest Airlines, including the Negotiating Committee, where he played a meaningful role in guiding contract and pension discussions during a pivotal time for the airline. He also supported the creation of the groundbreaking first pilot contract for the newly formed Compass Airlines-an agreement that introduced several innovative and forward-thinking provisions. Ron later continued his service on the ALPA National Retirement & Insurance Committee until the Northwest–Delta merger in 2009.

Ron lived his life with a "go big or go home" spirit. He was compassionate, steady, strong-willed, and endlessly generous with his time. Whether in a cockpit, a classroom, a meeting room, or at home with the people he loved most, Ron led with integrity, humor, and heart. His presence made others feel grounded, supported, and seen.

Above all, Ron was devoted to his family. He is survived by his partner, Linda Bailleul; his children, Reegan Barnett and Ross Barnett; Linda's son, Nicolas Bailleul; his mother, Mary Ann Barnett; his sisters, Madonna Barnett and Rebecca Conger; his nephew Nate Conger; and the mother of his children, Beth Barnett. Ron's love for his family was unwavering, and he carried immense pride in each of them.

Ron's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched-in the pilots he trained and mentored, the colleagues he inspired, the passengers he carried safely around the world, and the family that adored him. His impact will be felt for generations.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Passing this on from Bob's daughter…. Bob and his late wife Carol (DAL Flt Attendant) were dear friends and committed members of our church. Bob left the cockpit early pre-bankruptcy when he was first diagnosed with a cancer that was expected to take his life quickly, and IMO the company did him few favors and some real hurts, although the offer to fly both Bob's and Carol's remains "non-rev" for free to their final resting place has been a true source of happiness for the kids. He survived miraculously but the terrible damage made it impossible for him to return to duty, and later recurrences plagued him for the next two decades. It will be an honor to lead his celebration of life service in a few weeks.

Dear friends and family, It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Bob Berger’s passing. On Thursday, November 13th, Bob took his final breath after hearing loving goodbyes from family members both near and far. Those who were with him during his final moments witnessed the gentle peace on his face—his eyes fixed, as he peered into the new life to come.

Bob’s story is a reminder that miracles still happen. By the grace of God, he lived nearly 20 years beyond a terminal cancer diagnosis. During those extra years, he was able to witness milestones in his children’s lives, welcome and cherish his grandchildren, and lovingly care for his wife through her own health challenges. Bob always said that his healing was a gift from God—one he felt called to share with and pour back into his community.

We will be honoring Bob’s life with a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, December 6th at 10:00 AM at Faith Community Bible Church in Loudon, NH. We would love to gather with you to remember him together.

We’re doing our best to spread the word, so please feel free to share this post with others who knew Bob. I (Lauren Berger Platter) will be checking in on my dad’s Facebook page periodically, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or messages.

Thank you for your love, prayers, and support during this time.
Love,
Lauren, Ryan, Lucas and the rest of the Berger family

James Houdek, age 85, of Spring Valley, Wis., passed away at his home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024. Amazingly, Sept. 18 is the Feast Day for the patron saint of aviators and pilots, Saint Joseph of Cupertino.

James Dean Houdek was born Dec. 19, 1938, to James C. and Marie “Mae” Sedlak Houdek in Crete, Neb. He grew up farming with his family in rural southeast Nebraska. During his senior year he moved to Columbus, Neb. He graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1956. After high school he continued his education at the University of Omaha where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC and received a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

On Feb. 2, 1963, he married Edith “Dede” Coughenour, his college sweetheart, in Omaha, Neb. After he graduated, Jim served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 until 1969. He flew the KC-135 Tanker during the Vietnam War. By the end of his tour of duty, he and Dede had four children. He then was hired as a commercial pilot by Northwest Airlines and moved with his family to Minneapolis. Within a year the airline industry began laying off pilots, and Jim along with many other newly hired pilots lost his job. He convinced Northwest to hire him back as an accountant, and he worked in the corporate offices for eight years. In 1980 Jim very happily returned to flying, and he, Dede, and their now eight children made Spring Valley their home. The family became enthusiastic and involved members of the community. Jim retired from Northwest on his 60th birthday in 1998.

After 45 years of marriage, he lost his wife Dede on Nov. 6, 2008.

Jim later met Bonnie Baker, and they were married on Nov. 27, 2010. They divided their time between their Florida and Wisconsin homes. Jim and Bonnie enjoyed traveling, visiting family, going on cruises, and working in their garden.

Jim was known for his selfless generosity throughout his life. He was actively involved in his community whether it was rebuilding a church, being President of the Village Board, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, being a member of the Lion’s Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion, or helping with the many projects within his own family and the village. He was honored to be Grand Marshal of the 2023 Dam Days parade.

Some of Jim’s favorite things to do were attending his kids’ and grandkids’ activities, marching in the famous and talented El Paso Marching band, gardening, entertaining family and friends, and playing tennis. Jim was an avid tennis player and found tennis partners worldwide wherever he flew. One of his proudest accomplishments was starting the annual Northwest Airlines tennis tournament. He ran this tournament for many years. It is now the Delta Airlines Tennis tournament, and he is recognized as the founding father.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mae Houdek; wife Dede; siblings Arnold Houdek and Aldeane Horning; father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth and Marian Coughenour; and sister-in-law Ann Coughenour.

Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie, his sister Jeanne (Gerald) Lauenroth, his children: Elizabeth (Gregg) Deutsch, James “Chip” (Jaime) Houdek, Catherine (Royce) Keehr, John (Laurie) Houdek, Laura (Scott) Kish, Karen (Bill) Fesenmaier, Debra (Craig) Jilek, and Cynthia (Shawn) Harrison. He is also survived by stepchildren Scott Bullard and Jackie (Glenn) Graham and 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, and 10-11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley. A mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Spring Valley.

Honorary pallbearers are James K. “Chip” Houdek, John Houdek, and Scott Bullard. Pallbearers are Jim’s sons-in-law: Gregg Deutsch, Royce Keehr, Scott Kish, Bill Fesenmaier, Craig Jilek, and Shawn Harrison.

Gold Canyon, AZ - Tim Rainey passed away unexpectedly on November 10 (his 70th birthday).

Tim earned a degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota, where he played hockey and won the 1974 and 1976 NCAA National Championships under coach Herb Brooks.

He went on to a remarkable career at Northwest Airlines. In the 1990s, during the restructuring of the entire airline industry, his shrewd negotiating set the company up to thrive. He worked his way up to Senior Vice President, overseeing all flight operations until his retirement in 2008.

Michael Driscoll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Costello Funeral Home on Nov. 16, 2025.

Michael Shannon Driscoll, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on January 31, 1960, in Ogden, Utah, to the late Joseph and Mary Driscoll, and grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts, alongside his siblings.

Michael lived a life marked by integrity, service, and love. He attended Norwich University where he embraced the school's motto, "I will try" – which became a guiding thread throughout his life. He was a proud member of Skull and Swords, forming friendships that became lifelong brotherhoods. They stayed close through homecomings, golf tournaments, and their annual Christmas gathering in Boston.

Michael's children grew up hearing those Norwich stories and spending time with the same brothers and their families. Even in his final months at the VA hospital, his Norwich brothers came to be with him-sharing stories, laughter, and tears. Their loyalty to one another endured through every season of life.

After attending Norwich University-he joined the United States Air Force in January 1983, beginning a distinguished military and aviation career that reflected his lifelong commitment to excellence.

During his time in the Air Force, Captain Michael S. Driscoll served as a pilot stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. He earned an honorable discharge in September 1986 upon completion of his active-duty commitment. His military decorations and awards include the Air Force Training Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Pistol), Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Ribbon–Long Tour, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Readiness Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Outstanding Unit Award Commendation Medal.

Michael's professional military education included Undergraduate Pilot Training (T-37/T-38, 1983), Pilot Initial Qualification (1986), Flight Instruction Lead-In Course (1986), Aircraft Commander Air Refueling Qualification (1988), Instructor Aircraft Commander, and Squadron Officer School (1986). His dedication to service, leadership, and precision prepared him for his next great chapter-civilian aviation.

Following his military career, Michael became a captain for Delta Air Lines, where he spent decades flying across the world. Throughout his aviation career, he traveled to every continent on the globe, embracing the adventure and wonder of each new place. It was on a Delta flight to Cleveland, Ohio, that fate introduced him to the love of his life, Lisa, a flight attendant whose humor and warmth captured his heart instantly. Together, they built a beautiful life full of laughter, travel, and shared adventure.

After marrying, Michael and Lisa settled in Winchester, Massachusetts, where they purchased their family home and raised their two children. They became deeply rooted in the community and cherished residents of Winchester for over thirty years.

Michael was a devoted father to his daughter, Hannah Small, and his son, Devin Driscoll. He filled their lives with joy, curiosity, and a love of exploration-sometimes even pulling them from school for spontaneous trips to Europe or afternoons at the zoo. Whether flying through the clouds or skating across the ice, Michael lived fully and encouraged his family to do the same.

Hockey was one of Michael's great passions. When he wasn't in the cockpit, he could be found on the ice-playing, coaching, or sharing his love for the sport. As a coach, he was known for his kindness, positivity, and unwavering spirit. Players and friends alike remember him as someone who led by example and brought out the best in everyone around him.

At home, he cherished "FFF"-Forced Family Fun-Friday nights filled with movies, laughter, and love. He found joy in simple moments: reading to his children, playing sports together, or attending Mass as a family at St. Mary's Church in Winchester, Massachusetts, where his faith was an essential part of his life. He instilled in his children the importance of gratitude, kindness, and putting family first.

Michael's generosity and warmth touched everyone he met. From his Norwich brothers to his Delta colleagues, the stories shared about him paint a portrait of a man who was steady, loyal, and endlessly giving. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation, and his presence lit up every room he entered.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Driscoll; his daughter and son-in-law, Hannah and Jason Small; his son, Devin Driscoll; his sister, Maureen Villa; and his brothers, Shaun Driscoll and Kevin Driscoll. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Driscoll.

Though Alzheimer's slowly took from him, it never diminished the strength of his spirit or the love he shared with those around him. His family and friends will forever remember his humor, kindness, and devotion.

Michael's life was a testament to courage, compassion, and the power of trying-never giving up. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for Visiting Hours at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Thursday, November 20, from 4-8PM, and again on Friday, November 21, @ 11AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 12 noon. Burial with military honors will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
