WAL/DL Capt. William “Bill” Fulgham

~ IN MEMORY ~

Navy veteran, WAL/DL Capt. William “Bill” Fulgham

December 29, 1934 ~ November 4, 2022

We have sad news to share this morning…..from family we have learned of the passing of retired Western/Delta pilot Captain William “Bill” Raleigh Fulgham, age 87.  Bill joined Western Airlines 02-27-1961 and was based LAX & SLC, then 030/PDX at the time of his retirement with Delta Air Lines.  Bill is survived by his wife WA/DL F/A MarySue Lewis Fulgham, and by his children and their families.

As was Bill’s wishes, no services were held.

Thank you,

~ Carol for the PCN

Obituary :   William R. Bill Fulgham passed away November 4, 2022. Bill suffered a heart attack just as he completed his daily early morning walk.

Bill was born in Overton, Texas, December 29, 1934. When he was 6 months old, the family moved to Squaw Valley, CA, in the foothills outside of Fresno. His family relocated to Avenal, CA, and he graduated from Avenal High School in 1952. Bill joined the Navy after graduation. He later attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK, earning his A&P license. When Bill returned to California, he earned his private pilot license and, acquiring all the necessary training and flight hours, in 1961 he was hired as a pilot by Western Airlines.

In 1959 he married Martha Joyce Wilkins and they had 2 sons. After mandatory retirement in 1994, Bill and Joyce spent a year cruising Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands until her death in early 1996.

In 1998 Bill married MarySue Lewis and they moved to Ridgefield, WA. They continued cruising for a few years and travelled as far north as Skagway, Alaska, and as far south as Manzanillo, Mexico.

Bill loved his career as an airline pilot. He flew the DC-6, Boeing 737, 727, 757 & 767, and MD-11. He survived the Western/Delta merger but Western Airlines was always first in his heart. Bill was happy to tell you that once he was hired by Western Airlines, he never again worked a day in his life. Going to the airport to fly, see the country and spend the day with great people certainly could not be considered work.

Bill is survived by his wife, MarySue, sons Andrew and Bryan Fulgham, Scott Compton, 2 amazing daughters-in-law Teresa Fulgham and Heather Compton, and 5 well loved grandchildren Samantha, Sydney and Kevin Fulgham and Jack and Luke Compton. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Rataczak, Judith (Burgess) 82, of South Haven, died peacefully in her sleep

on Saturday, November 19th. She was born on August 8, 1940, in Austin, MN,

to Donald and Katie (Hanson) Burgess. After graduating from Austin High

School in 1958, Judy moved to Minneapolis to study nursing at St. Barnabas,

where she graduated with a nursing diploma in 1961. Nursing was one of

Judy's great passions, and she was a gifted nurse to all her patients; she

passed on this love of nursing to her daughter, daughter-in-law, and

granddaughter. Judy married William Rataczak in 1962, and the couple settled

in Minneapolis. In 1974, Judy and Bill moved to Lake Sylvia, outside South

Haven, where they raised their family. Over the ensuing decades, Judy

continued to build out a full and rich life. She was deeply involved in her

church, St. John's Episcopal Church in Saint Cloud; became a gifted quilter

and treasured her time with her beloved quilt group, the Rubys; remained

strongly connected with her Austin family, whom she loved dearly; traveled

the world with her husband; and, beginning in 1996, welcomed a succession of

grandchildren, who were preeminent joys in her life. Judy was also an avid

reader who loved her monthly book group gatherings, and passed on to her

children and grandchildren a love of continual learning. Judy showed up for

all the people she loved, with a listening ear, a warm hug, and a loving

presence. She set an example to all who knew her for the value she placed on

investing in a community of family and friends. As with any full and vibrant

life, Judy's was not without its hardships. These were greeted with

unwavering faith, quiet bravery, and a fierce determination to live fully in

the face of those challenges. This is a legacy she leaves with all who were

witness to her authentic and faithful life. Judy is survived by her husband,

William Rataczak; son, Michael Rataczak; son and daughter-in-law, James and

Joan Rataczak; daughter, Sarah Rataczak; and beloved grandchildren, Natalie,

Jens, Eric, Jack, Grace, Leo, Max, and Henry; brother and sister-in-law,

Donald and Sharon Burgess; sister, Colleen Wakeman; and numerous nieces and

nephews. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, November 25, 2022,

at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale. Funeral services will be held

11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at St. John's Episcopal Church in St.

Cloud. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be at a later

date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. The family asks that any memorial

donations be made in Judy's memory to St. John's Episcopal Church in St.

Cloud. Masks are not required, but strongly encouraged to protect the

vulnerable.

Dorothy Papandrea’s full Obituary :

Dorothy Lorene Papandrea (86) passed away on November 20, 2022 in the arms of her loving husband surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren. She was born in McDonough, GA on July 12, 1936. She was predeceased by her parents Lorene Ethel Phillips and Jesse Harris Phillips and her son Anthony Papandrea. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Tony Papandrea, her daughter Jessica Poole, her son Dart (Becky) Kendall, her son Chuck (Barbara) Papandrea, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Throughout her life Dorothy had many roles. She was a talented majorette at SW Dekalb High School and then became an entrepreneur starting out as a fashion stylist working out of her home and later opening four gift shops where she taught countless college students to smile, speak and sell. One of her most enjoyed roles was avid golfer. Her love for the game grew as they spent time at Marietta Country Club, Eagles Landing Country Club and finally Hammock Dunes Country Club. She played by the motto "score isn't an issue as long as your swing looks good". Her love for travel and golf provided priceless memories throughout her life. Her proudest roles were philanthropist and Christian. In each community she lived in she found a passion for giving back. She has assisted in the organizing and fundraising millions of dollars for multiple charities. Her faith was tested through many trials including cancer and her recent years in a memory care facility, but she remained steadfast in her relationship with Jesus. Her most fun role was being "Babe" to her multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spoiling them and always saying yes. Above all, her most cherished role was being wife to Tony. Their story could write a book. He was a young naval fighter pilot and she was a hard to get girl having a night out (think Top Gun). After 7 months of dating they were engaged. Later that year, on December 14th they were married. They had so much fun and their love for one another was palpable. Down to her last breath, he worshiped her and she worshiped him. Dorothy lived a full life with so many blessings and her legacy will live on through those she loved.

Her life will be honored at a service on November 27, 2022 at 2pm at Flippen United Methodist Church with a graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Advent Health Foundation in Palm Coast, FL.
