..former PNA chief stewardess Rita Pompermayer, widow of NWA Capt. Paul Pompermayer

February 14, 1931 ~ February 9, 2023

Notice of passing…..RNPA member Mrs. Rita Therese Pompermayer, widow of NWA Capt. Paul Richard Pompermayer.  Obituary and family photos are available for viewing at

https://obituaries.seattletimes.com/obituary/rita-pompermayer-1087177137

Flintofts Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

Obituary : Our beautiful mother, Rita Therese left this earth on February 9th to be with our dad, Paul, her husband of 60 plus years. Rita passed away just shy of her 92nd birthday which would have been on Valentine's Day. She was surrounded by family. Born in Butte, MT, Rita was the youngest of four children. Times were tough in Butte and her mother, Loretta Gleason, sought a better life in Seattle where there were more jobs during WWII. Starting in 5th grade, Rita attended St. Patrick's Parish School, Holy Names (class of 1950), and Seattle University (SU). A true Seattle girl, Rita lived at 1010 E Thomas Street on Capitol Hill (which years later became a lovely garden known as The Thomas Street P-Patch). She loved chicken pot pies and candies from Frederick and Nelson along with walks through Volunteer Park. After SU, Rita became a chief stewardess with Pacific Northern Alaska (later known as Western Airlines) even getting Paul a job as a commercial pilot (having been a Navy Pilot).

After marrying, the young couple would eventually settle on Mercer Island where they raised four children: Mark (Melissa), Steve, Lisa (Peter, affectionately known as her fourth son) and Marty (Carolyn). Rita (aka Reedee) loved being with family and her menagerie of pets, with the most recent being Corgi Oscar Mayer. Rita leaves behind her children as well as grandchildren: Dana, Katharine, Drake, Andrew, Kelly ,Erik , many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Rita was a bright light in the world, always interested in others and fun to be around. Nephew Rick Scott summed up Mom perfectly, "Aunt Reedee makes me want to be a better person."

At Rita's request, there will be a private burial. The family wishes to express thanks to those who assisted Mom later in life, including Sanchal, Antonio, Stella, Eleanor and her niece Nancy Jackson.

Donations may be made to Seattle Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

 Richard Seth Wood

May 7, 1942 - February 22, 2023

Obituary for Richard Seth Wood

Richard Seth Wood, age 80 years, died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 22, 2023, after a long battle with dementia. He is survived by his devoted wife, Toni Wood, who saw him through every step of the journey. He is also survived by his two sons, John “Darin” and James “Daryl” Wood; grandchildren Gabrialle, Zephan, Maddox and Brody; sister, Teddy Jr.; brothers, Jamie and David Wood; and his step-family, Lora, Graham, Riley, Cole, Adam, Kyle Smith and Ezra and Cathy Walsh. Richard is preceded in death by his father Seth, mother, Teddy, and sister Laura.

Born in Rexburg, Idaho to Seth and Edna “Teddy” Wood, Richard was also known to some as “Dick,” or by his Naval Aviator call name, “Woody.” He was an adventurous soul who was given a second chance at life as a toddler who was saved from drowning by an Eagle Scout. Richard lived that second chance to the fullest. He loved motorcycle touring the west and abroad, golf and skiing, and was an accomplished marksman.

Richard was a 43-year sober member of AA, and served for decades as an inspiration to others on the sobriety journey. Recently, he proudly told his son Darin, “it worked,” playing on a famous quote from the 12 Steps.

Richard “Woody” served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator during the Vietnam war, completing many successful missions behind enemy lines. Later in his career, he worked as a Flight Captain at Western Airlines and at Delta Airlines until he retired in 2002.

Richard will be missed deeply by those who love him and by those he inspired throughout his life. His light and spirit will be passed through the generations.

In lieu of flowers, Richard requested consideration of a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/

A friends and family gathering will take place on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 10:00-10:45 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at the Old Mill 2nd Ward, 715 East 600 South, Heber City, Utah 84032.    Captain Charles ‘Chuck’ Hagen, age 92, died Saturday January 14, 2023, in Denver Colorado. Chuck had struggled with Alzheimer’s Disease. Chuck was born in Minneapolis, MN to parents Blanche and Edwin Hagen. He was an only child. Chuck’s father worked on the Alaskan Highway Project but fell though the ice and died during a visit back to Siren, WI.

Chuck attended Siren High School in where he was a good student, musician and played football in high school. Two divergent interests in Chuck’s life were playing the piano and flying. As a student he hitch-hiked to piano lessons because every cent of spare cash went for flying lessons at the grass strip airport in Siren. Chuck played the piano his entire life and always kept a photo of his piano teacher on the piano. When he refused to practice the teacher would shake her head and look at him asking, “What’s going to become of you?” He kept the picture on the piano to remind himself of that moment and it kept him humble.

Chuck studied music at Superior State University, but after a few nights watching musicians in a nearby jazz club, he decided that aviation was the better career path. Northwest Airlines hired Chuck on June 28, 1950 as an aircraft groomer, and once again, whatever income he had to spare went for flying lessons. Once Chuck had acquired 220 hours of flight time, he started making the right connections by saying “Yes Sir” a lot and was rehired by NWA as a pilot. His official pilot date of hire was April 03, 1952.

By the early 1950s NWA had a unique role in the post-war restoration of Japan Air Lines (JAL). Select NWA pilots and aircraft were reassigned to JAL to restart the post-war airline. Chuck’s first post-training assignment was to JAL.

Obituary : James Leroy Williams

IN THE CARE OF Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary

James "Jim" L. Williams, 79, entered eternal glory on February 1, 2023.

A retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander pilot and later Captain with Delta Airlines, he was a man of innumerable talents, a jack of all trades and true renaissance man. He was known for his generosity, his unflappable demeanor and dry sense of humor. He was a man of few words but when he did choose to speak, he would have you doubled over with his hilarity, charm and wit. However, he would most like to be remembered as a man of faith who loved the Lord and his family with all of his heart.

Jim broke his femur while playing on a scooter. Surgery was successful to replace the broken bones and rehab was going extremely well until blood clots formed and he suffered a pulmonary embolism which led to cardiac arrest. He fought valiantly to the very end but could not overcome the numerous health challenges that plagued his recovery. He is survived by Elizabeth, his bride of 56 years, their 3 children: Troy, Keri, Erik and his wife, Leslie, with grandchildren Havilah and Elias, his brother, Jerry Williams, sister-in-law, Chris Williams, and stepfather, Jim Hurtado.

Mel worked for Northwest Airlines from 1958 to 1993- retiring as a captain flying 747's. He was well respected in the airline community as someone with integrity, intelligence and a kind demeanor. Mel was married twice in his life with both ending in the death of his spouse. His first marriage was to Barbara Thoemke, which was tragically brief, and then his second was to Evelyn Knox which lasted almost 60 years. Together Mel and Evie had two children , Gregory and Leslie, with whom they shared many family adventures. Mel loved nature, history, flying, and above all his family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
