___ PCN FLIGHT WEST is sponsored by the Pilot Communication Network and is a service of the PCN provided for the Delta Pilot Retired family of pilot groups. Flight West was started and is maintained to accomplish two main goals. After we become aware of a colleague who has Flown West, 1. We aim to produce a “timely” notice sent to our community that allows for support and interaction from our group toward the grieving family of our friend and colleague. 2. Then, we aim to “archive” that notice on our Flown West Blogspot as a lasting accessible place of Dignity and Honor of our colleague for family legacy and posterity. Contributor contact info is generally removed before posting (unless requested otherwise).

Obituary : Our beautiful mother, Rita Therese left this earth on February 9th to be with our dad, Paul, her husband of 60 plus years. Rita passed away just shy of her 92nd birthday which would have been on Valentine's Day. She was surrounded by family. Born in Butte, MT, Rita was the youngest of four children. Times were tough in Butte and her mother, Loretta Gleason, sought a better life in Seattle where there were more jobs during WWII. Starting in 5th grade, Rita attended St. Patrick's Parish School, Holy Names (class of 1950), and Seattle University (SU). A true Seattle girl, Rita lived at 1010 E Thomas Street on Capitol Hill (which years later became a lovely garden known as The Thomas Street P-Patch). She loved chicken pot pies and candies from Frederick and Nelson along with walks through Volunteer Park. After SU, Rita became a chief stewardess with Pacific Northern Alaska (later known as Western Airlines) even getting Paul a job as a commercial pilot (having been a Navy Pilot).

After marrying, the young couple would eventually settle on Mercer Island where they raised four children: Mark (Melissa), Steve, Lisa (Peter, affectionately known as her fourth son) and Marty (Carolyn). Rita (aka Reedee) loved being with family and her menagerie of pets, with the most recent being Corgi Oscar Mayer. Rita leaves behind her children as well as grandchildren: Dana, Katharine, Drake, Andrew, Kelly ,Erik , many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Rita was a bright light in the world, always interested in others and fun to be around. Nephew Rick Scott summed up Mom perfectly, "Aunt Reedee makes me want to be a better person."

At Rita's request, there will be a private burial. The family wishes to express thanks to those who assisted Mom later in life, including Sanchal, Antonio, Stella, Eleanor and her niece Nancy Jackson.

Donations may be made to Seattle Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
