Obituary :  James Adamson Crookston II, 75, of Mexico, MO, Atlanta, GA, Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Boulder, CO, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at home in Boulder, CO surrounded by his family.

The former Jim Crookston was born January 15, 1946, in Benld, Illinois, to Rena (Moretti) and James Crookston. Jim graduated from Mexico High School in his hometown of Mexico, Missouri in 1963 and then from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri in 1967 with a BA in Chemistry. After graduation he received a commission in the United States Air Force serving in active duty from November 17, 1967- June 4, 1972.

In 1970, living in Tiburon, CA, he met Susan Hoppe while training at Travis Air Force Base. After a brief courtship they married on June 7, 1970 in Sausalito, CA. He was deployed to Vietnam from June 1971- June 1972 where he piloted an O2A as a Forward Air Controller. His unit supported the Army 101st Airborne Division based first in Camp Evans near Quang Tri then Da Nang Airbase. During one of his missions, Jim was the first person to observe the mass invasion of South Vietnam known as the Easter Offensive of April 1972.

After resigning his commission with the USAF, Jim began his 31-year career with Delta Airlines where he attained the ranks of Captain & Line Check Airman. He was first briefly based in New Orleans before settling in Atlanta where daughters, Laura, Jennifer, and Kathryn were raised. In addition to his commercial airline career, Jim ran a residential general contracting company while also attending law school prior to passing the Georgia State bar in 1978. During this time, Jim was an active member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church.

Approaching retirement, he and Sue moved to Florida in 1996. They lived in Seaside then Watercolor Beach and enjoyed many wonderful family gatherings. In 2008, their family expanded with the arrival of grandchildren. Over the next 13 years five grandsons and one granddaughter came along, providing much joy and many adventures for Jim and the family. By 2013, Jim and Sue had children and grandchildren across the country in Tennessee, Colorado and California and decided to settle part time in Boulder, CO where Katie and her family live. It was important to Jim to be close to family and watch the grandchildren grow up. He was a regular attendant at basketball and soccer games and a fishing companion for his grandsons. In his retirement, Jim taught himself classic guitar and kept himself healthy, taking up a very fulfilling road biking routine. Until 2020 he rode his bike up to 30 miles a day, 3-4 days a week on the local trails in Boulder and 30A in Florida.

In late 2019, Jim faced his diagnosis of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, which progressed into acute myeloid leukemia in early 2021, with courage and determination. The doctors and nurses at CU Anschutz Hospital supported him along with many visits from family and friends. He died at home after fighting the disease for a year and a half.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue; three daughters, Laura Deleot and her husband Land Deleot of Nashville, TN, Jenny Crookston Harrell and her husband Tom Harrell of Moraga, CA, and Katie Birkholz and her husband Matt Birkholz of Boulder, CO; six grandchildren, Thornton and Clay Deleot, Nolan and Veronica Harrell, and Beau and Xander Birkholz; his brother Dan Crookston of Sedona, AZ; his brother-in-law Michael Steffenson of Davenport, IA; as well as four nieces and nephews.

In celebration of Jim’s remarkable life, there will be a memorial gathering later this summer in Watercolor, Florida.

Pilot killed in plane crash near Idaho/Utah border was 2nd-generation aviator | Free September E-Edition | idahostatejournal.com

Pilot killed in plane crash near Idaho/Utah border was 2nd-generation aviator

NORTH LOGAN, Utah — The family of a man killed when his single-engine plane crashed into a house in North Logan on Saturday has identified him as Don Gerszewski.

The Gerszewski family shared the following statement, written Sunday, through Cache County Victim Services:

“With profound sadness, we say farewell to our husband, father and grandfather in this mortal life. He was our rock. A kind, loving friend and steady example to all who knew him.

“As a second-generation pilot with nearly five decades of aviation experience, Don was responsible for safely flying hundreds of thousands of people to their destinations around the world throughout his career. He was competent, cautious, and thorough with everything he pursued in life.

“We recognize that unforeseen conditions and a divine influence that we do not fully comprehend resulted in a tragic accident yesterday. We are comforted by our faith in God and His eternal plan, knowing there is a purpose that transcends time and our limited understanding.

“We also take solace in knowing that he left us doing what he loved, and that he knew how much he is loved by everyone around him. Blue skies and bright horizons until we meet again.”

Gerszewski’s aircraft, a SeaRey LSX kit plane, crashed into a roof near 2300 Meadowlark Lane at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. According to police and firefighters, no one was in the home at the time, but Gerszewski was dead when first responders arrived.

According to witness reports, Gerszewski’s son, a pilot himself, witnessed the accident and was among the first to climb onto the rooftop.

An online profile for Gerszewski states that he was a pilot for Delta Air Lines for 35 years, and a pilot and program manager for Beechcraft for 7 years before that. He graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s in aviation.

Timothy John Burke of Lithia Springs GA and Helena Montana fought a hard battle but due to complications of Covid19 died the morning of April 30, 2021. He was a beloved son and brother, a kind- hearted soul, a Christian, friend, pilot and car enthusiast, and Montanan to the end. Tim was born to Marlene (Cresien) and Robert (Bob) Burke on March 16, 1958 in Missoula, Montana. His parents considered naming him Patrick, but because he arrived one day shy of St. Paddy's Day, the name Timothy won out. It was a fitting name for the good Irish Catholic boy he was and the fine man he would become. Tim joined two older brothers, Bob and Dan, and younger brother Mike arrived a few years later. The family moved to Helena in the early 1960s where Marlene ran the household of four rambunctious boys and Bob worked in banking. The Burkes resided on Helena's upper westside, first on Power then Harrison streets. Tim loved Helena and felt fortunate to have a childhood filled with adventures. Many good, innocent escapades with neighborhood friends turned into lasting friendships and cherished memories. "Big Tim" or "T" thoroughly enjoyed a good round of kidding, regardless of whether he was dishing it out or on the receiving end. He could be a little stubborn at times but his kind heart, love of all people, love of family and friends, and faith in God were unwavering. Tim attended Bishop Gilmore Grade School, CR Anderson and Capital High School before graduating from Missoula Sentinel High School in 1976. He wrestled during grade school and then in high school with his final year at Missoula Sentinel with Jug Beck as his coach. Tim loved the outdoors and pursued skiing and bird hunting with the family. He also found great enjoyment from the many models he put together, especially the airplanes. A true passion throughout Tim's life was anything mechanical or electrical that needed fixing. He had a knack for repairing "junk" engines and making them run again, with very little help or instruction. Tim was industrious, a hard worker and knew how to make and save a buck. During his teen years a good portion of the neighborhood became his lawn mowing customers. With his earnings Tim purchased a Corvair Monza, and his life-long passion with Corvairs was born. Following his brother Bob (and later joined by Mike), Tim attended Montana State University in Bozeman earning his bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts in 1981. Although Tim was a gifted teacher, his dedication to Army ROTC led to his decision to become a pilot. As a new Second Lieutenant, Tim began to learn the rigors of the Army and after some basic officer training in the south he was stationed at Fort Ord in California. He then moved on to flight school at Fort Rucker in Alabama where he trained on the Bell UH-1 (Huey). Tim was happy to endure the intensity of training to receive the reward of flying and freedom it provided him. After some time as a pilot at various duty stations Tim returned to Fort Rucker and became an instructor pilot for the Huey and later Blackhawk helicopters. He also served deployments to Korea, Kuwait, Iraq and other parts of the world flying helicopters and the Army's OV1-Mohawk. He was a decorated officer for the many operations and campaigns he was involved in. While still in the Army, Tim began his second career at Delta Airlines in 1997 working as a Flight Training Procedures Instructor at the Delta Training Center in Atlanta. The job was a good fit as it allowed Tim to again instruct pilots and work with others that shared his passion of flying. Many lasting friendships with other pilots and aircraft folks were also a benefit of his time at Delta. Tim also loved to travel so an added benefit with both Delta and the Army was he saw the world and flew around it probably a couple of times! Russia, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as well as most of the states were all stops, and he typically took time to see the sites and enjoy the culture. One trip with his brother Mike to New Zealand and Australia was a great hosteling adventure since he was able to reconnect with his Australian military friends, drink some good beer, and swim with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. Taking leaves from Delta at times, Tim proudly served his country by deploying to Iraq and Kuwait. Tim retired with honor after over 30 years of Army service in 2013, having risen to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He wrapped up his career at Delta when he retired in August of 2020. In retirement Tim found contentment doing what he loved best- completing car restorations, tinkering with planes and helicopters, and hanging out with friends and neighbors. A collector of modern and classic vehicles (several of which he restored himself), Tim was especially proud of his show-quality 1966 Corvair Yenko Stinger # 44 (a car he'd fallen for as a kid). Tim made many friends in his Lithia Springs neighborhood and throughout the Atlanta area. He was always willing to help a friend when they were down or if they needed a leg-up, and did so with no need of recognition. He also enjoyed a good debate and had no problem speaking his mind or sharing his views. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched and by his parents and brothers. Tim loved his family and was especially close to his mom. Although they weren't able to see each other in person as often as they would have liked, Tim and Marlene kept in touch with frequent phone calls, laughing and talking about family and life. Tim was preceded in death by his brother Bob Burke, Ann and Pete Larson, Aunt Nancy Burke, and Cousin Kathy Burke. Survivors include Tim's mom Marlene Burke, dad Bob Burke, brothers Dan and Mike (Trudy) Burke, nieces Nicole (Jesse Adams) Herzog, Mary (Dylan) Robbins, Caroline Burke and Kaela Burke, nephews Patrick (Marina) Burke and Nolan Burke, great-niece Reagan Robbins, Uncle Jack Burke, and many loving and caring Butte cousins and relatives. The Burke family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center Downtown and especially the nurses and doctors for their dedicated care for Tim during his hospitalization and their communication with family members in Montana. To honor Tim's dedication to the Army and his country, Tim will be interred with honors at Fort Harrison in Helena, Montana. Memorial services are being planned for Atlanta and Montana and will be announced at a later date. The family requests memorials to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or an organization of your choosing.

Potts, Lorraine P. Age 95 of Hastings, Edina and Richfield, passed away November 2, 2020 of complications from old age & Covid-19. She was predeceased by her wonderful husband, Neil E. Potts. Lorraine was the "Energizer Bunny" and memory-maker of the family. As a child, she was known as "Little Lorraine", the Shirley Temple of Chicago, helping support her family through the Depression, singing and dancing in theaters and nightclubs. She devoted her life to creating remarkable experiences for her family and cultivating an astounding number of close friends. She volunteered decades of time and energy to numerous causes, including MSP Airport Foundation Travelers's Assistance, Courage Kenny Foundation and the American Heart Association. She was most proud of her numerous trips around the world delivering adopted children to their new families in the United States. Awarded State Champion Horticulturalist, Lorraine and Neil cultivated gorgeous gardens that brought thank you notes from strangers and their home was never without exquisitely arranged flowers. "Pottsy", as the neighbor kids called her, never did anything half-way and always celebrated the beauty and adventure of life! She will be truly missed by her devoted son, Randall Potts, her daughters, Becky Potts (Glendon Ayer) and Carol Potts- Werket (Jim Werket), beloved grandsons, Neil Werket (Rebecca) and Eric Werket, and four adorable "greats", Carter, Mason, Zoe and Amelia Werket; plus, countless other friends and relatives. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to Covid, but please raise a toast today to a beautiful woman and a life well-lived!
