As noted in the June issue of the Air Line Pilot magazine, the passing of retired Southern Airways/Northwest Airlines pilot Captain Guy Chesley "Chess" Steele, age 91.  Obituary information for Captain Steele may be found online at https://thomasfuneralhomecalhoun.com/obituaries/guy-steele

Widowed in April of 2020 with the passing of his wife Polly, Captain Steele is survived by their children and his grand- and great grandchildren…..please see obituaries below.

Obituary :  Guy Chesley “Chess” Steele, age 91 of Calhoun, GA and formerly of Stone Mountain, GA, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at AdventHealth Gordon. Chess was born on April 16, 1929 in Stephens County, GA, son of the late James Laxton Steele and Etta Walters Steele. In addition to his parents, Chess was also preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Elsie “Polly” McAllister Steele; three brothers, Bob Steele, Fred Steele, and Joseph Steele; and sister, Louise Shirley. Prior to his retirement, Chess was a Captain for Southern Airways. Chess is survived by: one son, Stephen C. Steele and his wife Nancy; one daughter, Cindy Steele Tucker and her husband John; five grandchildren, Matthew Steele, John Paul Steele, Adam Steele, Joshua Steele, and Quentin Tucker; and five great-grandchildren, Ches Steele, Wilder Steele, Grady Steele, Jed Steele, and Jasmine Steele. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 1 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Jamey Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 12 PM until the funeral hour at 1 PM at Thomas Funeral Home. Elsie "Polly" Steele

October 13, 1928 - April 19, 2020

 

Elsie “Polly” Steele, age 91 of Calhoun and formerly of Stone Mountain died at her home on Sunday, April 19 following an extended illness. She was born in Oconee County, South Carolina, October 13, 1928, a daughter of the late Francis and Mae McAllister. She had made her home in Calhoun with her daughter, Cindy since January 2020. Polly is survived by her husband, Guy C. Steele of Calhoun; one daughter, Cindy Steele Tucker of Calhoun; one son, Stephen C. Steele of Marietta; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
