August 6, 1949 ~ May 24, 2021

 


Notification with the passing of retired Delta pilot Captain Donald Keith Szatkowski, Jr., age 71.  Captain Szatkowski joined Delta Air Lines 11-24-1978 and retired with Delta based CVG/030.  He is survived by his wife Deb, his son and his granddaughters.

Obituary  :   Donald Keith Szatkowski, Jr., 71, of Terre Haute passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.  He was born August 6, 1949 in Bloomington, Indiana to Donald Szatkowski and Daisy Cooper Szatkowski.  Don was a member of the Air National Guard for nine years where he was a pilot flying F100 Jets and F4’s.  He began his flying career with Brown Flying School at Sky King Airport. He then went on to be a commercial airline pilot for Delta Airlines retiring after 25 years.  He was also a member of Lost Creek Conservation Club, Ham Radio Operator, NRA member, and somewhat of a technology buff using and working on computers. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.  His granddaughters were his whole heart.

 

Don is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Deb (Austin) Szatkowski, son Matt Szatkowski, granddaughters Claire and Megan Szatkowski, mother Daisy Szatkowski, brother Daniel Szatkowski (Flora), his buddy Krista Gibbons, as well as several nieces, nephews, special brothers in law and sisters in law, and close friends.  He is preceded in death by his father and son Bryan Szatkowski.

 

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Military honors will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  American Legion Riley will be performing honors  Wearing of masks is preferred by not required at the request of the family.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Don to Dog It Dig It Rescue or the Terre Haute Humane Society.  Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
