DL Capt. Lee J. Roach

Lee J. Roach (1934 - 2016)

Former Fulton County Commissioner Lee J. Roach, a career pilot for Delta Air Lines and a champion for the Chattahoochee River area, died Jan. 15, 2016 in Pensacola, Fla. He was 81.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan 30 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Dr. NW, Atlanta Georgia 30327. Airline Uniforms are welcomed.

After serving in the Navy, Lee Roach flew as a Delta Air Lines pilot for 33 years, retiring in 1994.

In 1977, he was elected Fulton County Commissioner at-large. Roach served Fulton County from 1977-1990 during which his achievements included seeing the Chattahoochee River corridor become the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Commissioner Roach attended the ceremony at which President Jimmy Carter signed into act the Chattahoochee corridor to the National Park System.

He was a skilled musician and was awarded a music scholarship to Fordham University. Later in life he was a founding member of the Atlanta Concert Band.

Please see information below.....memorial services for Captain Lee Roach will be held January 30th in Georgia.  A military veteran and Delta Golden Wings member,  Captain Lee Joseph Roach joined Delta Air Lines 04-17-1961 and was based Atlanta.  He is the father of DL Captain Michael Roach who is based JFK/030.
As we receive more information we will be sure to pass it along.

CARES AND CONCERNS
Thank you to retired DL Captain Rill Donato for sending me the sad news of the death of retired DL Captain Lee J. Roach, 81.  Lee is survived by his wife Natalie and at the time of death they were living in Pensacola, Florida.
I spoke to Lee's son Michael, a Delta B-737 Captain who lives in ATL but is commuting to JFK.  He is preparing an obituary to run later this week but I wanted to send this early information.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 30th at 3:00 pm at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30327 ph. 404-252-4513.  Following the service there will be a Wake celebration at Lee's home at 8901 North Island Ferry Road, Dunwoody, GA.

I wish to thank Bob Jameson for passing along the sad news concerning the passing of Capt Roach Friday January 15th. We have not found a full obit as of yet and no details have been made public.  When there is news of either we will update our notice and create an archived paged for Capt Roach.  If you have any additional information you wish to share with the PCN, please forward.
