Jeff was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents Robert (Bob) and Elsie Pedersen Nelson. In his loving family, he was one of four children, his older brother Chris, and two younger siblings, Lisa and Eric. In 1959, his family moved to Middlesex, NJ, where Jeff loved to play outdoors, ride his bike, fish, and plan and execute adventures. The latter being a lifelong habit.

From the age of 15, Jeff knew he wanted to become a naval aviator. After turning 17 in May and graduating from Middlesex High School, he followed in his brother Chris’ footsteps and began his Plebe summer at the U.S. Naval Academy. Although it wasn’t his favorite place at the time, he later reflected, the education and experience he’d received at “Boat School” was a significant, positive influence. He graduated June 7, 1972.

GO NAVY BEAT ARMY

While waiting to begin his training to become a naval aviator at NAS, Meridian, Jeff worked at a local golf course. Through this experience he developed a life-long appreciation for the complexities of golf and the necessity for practice. On October 4th, 1974 Jeff received his naval aviator wings. He had already acquired his private license in his off time, while attending the Academy.

Later, while attending the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, Jeff also worked on and received his MA in political science from Salve Regina University, also located in Newport.

Jeff was a designated Naval Aviator specializing in Carrier based Tactical Aviation. He primarily flew the A-7 Corsair II and the F/A-18 Hornet. He commanded Strike Fighter Squadron ONE THREE SIX (VFA-136). Jeff was well known throughout Naval Aviation as a “Fighter Pilot’s Pilot,” and as one of its leaders in strike operations. He retired as a captain on October 31, 1996.

Wanting to remain in the driver seat of a jet, Jeff began the next phase of his life as a pilot for Delta Airlines in October of ‘97. He and his wife, Leslie moved to the Atlanta area, eventually making their home and life in Kennesaw, where they had their two children Katie and Robbie. In May of 2016, Jeff retired as a captain.

It was a great life for Jeff and his family. In addition to safely transporting thousands of people around the world, on layovers when time allowed, he enjoyed his “microvacations” that typically included a nice meal and a bike ride. Jeff also took great pleasure in planning and executing family trips – which were very much enriching and appreciated.

Jeff was enormously proud of his Norwegian heritage; a strong influence in his family. In one of his many life adventures, he initiated contact with his Bergen relatives, resulting in a lasting connection between his family on both sides of the Atlantic.

Jeff always said, “Do what you love,” and he did.

Jeff is survived by his wife Leslie, children Katie and Robbie, and his daughter Paige. He is also survived by his brother Chris (Lee), sister Lisa N. Kelchner (Todd), brother Eric (Evas), six nephews, two nieces, numerous cousins and eleven great nieces and nephews. He leaves a hole in the hearts of not only his family, but of so many friends.

Jeff was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in September of 2018. He fought hard, but it is a beast of a disease. His brother Eric Nelson is running in the Boston Marathon in his honor, this April. Donations can be made to sponsor Eric in his run, with all proceeds going to the Pancreatic Action Network. He’s calling it the Cannonball Run.

Two services are planned. The first will be held locally, the other will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Jeff’s final resting place.

Notification with the passing of retired Northwest/Delta pilot Capt. Charley Otto Aars, age 60.

From there he moved up the career ladder to first officer and then to Captain in 1997. In the meantime, Republic was acquired by Northwest Airlines. And then Northwest was acquired by Delta Airlines.” (Captain Aars DOH  05-19-1986)

Obituary……………..Charley Otto Aars, 60, passed from this earthly life to his divine, eternal life at his home in the Norse Community on July 14, 2020. Graveside services were held Friday, July 17, 2020, at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery at Norse. Visitation was held Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Clifton Funeral Home.

Charlie was born November 8, 1959, to C. Pernell and Rosalie Rueter Aars and was named in honor of his grandfathers, Charlie Aars and Otto Rueter.

A man of contrasts, he had roots buried deeply in the black soil of Bosque County, and a successful career flying high in the blue sky above the clouds. He was the first member of his family ever to become and pursue a career as a commercial airline pilot. While simultaneously, he was also a fourth generation Bosque County farmer. In fact, all four sets of his great grandparents had been immigrant farmers. His Aars and Hoel families came from Norway, and his Rueter and Knust families came from Germany. Charley was fiercely proud of those roots.

He grew up on the family farm west of Clifton and was a lifetime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, married, and finally laid to rest. While still a youngster, his interest in aviation sprang from his fascination with watching the crop dusters his dad contracted to spray the grain fields. Upon graduation from Clifton High School in 1978 he enrolled in Texas State Technological Institute studying to become an aviator. He graduated from American Technical University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and immediately began his aviation career as an instructor pilot at Texas Aero in Waco. What quickly followed was a succession of increasingly responsible flying positions in the commercial aviation industry beginning with Chaparral Airlines based in Abilene. That soon led to his selection as a flight engineer on 727 trijets with Republic Airlines headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From there he moved up the career ladder to first officer and then to Captain in 1997. In the meantime, Republic was acquired by Northwest Airlines. And then Northwest was acquired by Delta Airlines.

He retired from his commercial aviation career in 2017 as a tenured pilot with Delta having logged more than 26, 000 hours flying jet aircraft, culminating with the sleek Airbus A320. But his flying days were not over. Almost immediately, he purchased a Piper Lance which he selected because it was large enough to accommodate his whole family, thus combining his love of flying and love of family. In 2019, he was called upon to work part-time for Myatt Fuels. He enjoyed interacting with the customers and the camaraderie he shared with the owner and the employees.

He was known for being able to drive almost anything, beginning with the minibike his parents gave him for his eighth birthday. Soon he was helping on the farm driving the family's 1949 Allis Chalmers WD tractor. Eventually he would purchase his own larger and larger tractors as well as other farm equipment and even a bulldozer. He liked to quip that some people collect stamps, others coins, but he collected water in stock ponds he dug with that bulldozer. In 1983, he married the love of his life and former high school sweetheart, Lauri Carol Pitts. As their family began to grow, Charley and Lauri purchased a part of the family farm for their permanent home. Not surprisingly, Charley drove the bulldozer flattening the plot for the new house and was hands-on engaged in every facet of its construction, including wiring in the electrical circuitry. Thus, began their life as a farm family. Their three sons, Andrew Charley, Eric James, and Thomas Aaron followed in their father's farm boy footsteps helping with farming chores. While Charley was away on flying duties, Lauri cared for the family and kept them all focused on growing into responsible young men.

Charley was fond of joking that he was a "sport farmer," and that he flew commercial jets to support his farming habit. He loved farming and mastering all the diverse skills that it took to be successful at it. His mother lovingly said that Charley was born with dirt under his fingernails. Such was his total commitment to the profession. He was likewise committed to his church and community. As a lifelong member of Our Savior's, he served in many capacities including being president of the Men's Club and maintenance coordinator of the Cemetery Committee. Like his father before him, Charley was a dedicated member of the Bosque Hay Show where he was particularly key in raising money for the dozens of college scholarships the organization awards annually to high school graduating seniors. He was a lifelong member of the Aircraft Owners And Pilots Association and member of the Neils Creek Wildlife Association, and the Bosque County Antique Tractor Club. He took special pride in driving that old Allis Chalmers WD in competitive tractor pulls.

Preceding him into eternal life were his parents, Pernell and Rosalie Aars, and his grandparents Otto and Ottilie Knust Rueter and Charlie and Alma Hoel Aars.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Lauri Aars and their three sons: Andrew Aars and wife Desiree of Godley, Eric Aars and wife Laramie of Clifton, and Thomas Aars of Sentinel, Oklahoma. Plus, one grandson, Eric and Laramie's baby, Kettler Aars. Also, his brother and family: Rallin and Barbara Aars of DeSoto; Dr. Christian Aars of Plano; James and Kristina Aars and their children Ellie, William and Joshua of Lakeville, Minnesota; and Michael and Allison Aars and their sons Isaiah and Samuel of Clifton. And Lauri's brother and family: Barry and Jamie Pitts of Clifton; Hunter Pitts of Hewitt; and Fisher Pitts of Stephenville; mother and father-in-law Carol Ann and James Pitts of Clifton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be contributed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Cemetery (152 CR 4145, Clifton, Texas 76634) or to the donors' choice of charitable causes.

Obituary…………..
Scott Douglas Allan was born on May 31, 1957, at Travis Air Force base in Fairfield, CA.  He was the son of Keith and Nancy Allan, an Air Force officer and chemist, respectively.  Scott lived the majority of his youth in Glendale, AZ where he spent his time camping in the desert, sharpshooting, and being fascinated with science, space and airplanes. He was brilliant and adventurous.
Scott excelled in academics and graduated from Glendale HS in 1975, then accepted an appointment to the US Air Force Academy.  At USAFA, he joined the rifle team and became a 3-time letterman — a rare accomplishment, which Scott attributed to his fondness for precision. Upon graduation in 1979, Scott was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Air Force and was selected for flight training.  His exceptional performance in flight school qualified him for fighters and, after a brief period as a flight instructor, Scott reported to Andrews AFB to fly the F-15 Eagle, the Air Force’s newest high performance jet fighter. It was during his years in service that he became known as “Woody” which was his flight call sign.
Scott separated from service in 1986, returned to Arizona, and became a pilot for Delta Airlines. Scott advanced through the ranks and became a Delta captain, flying Boeing 757/767s on international routes. He finished his career on the Airbus 330 flying the JFK-Tel Aviv route, always with his favorite Delta flight attendant, Jana, whom he met through their work. She shared his love of travel and adventure, so it was an immediate love story. They married in 2015 and together they have traveled the world several times over, living their life as one long honeymoon.
In addition to travel, Scott had a passion for outdoor sports and adventures. He was an avid water skier and enjoyed doing aerobatics, in planes such as The Great Lakes, as did his father before him. Scott never met a problem he didn’t want to solve, be it a broken appliance or a challenge requiring his clear-headed, calm logic. He had a zest for knowledge that included wanting to learn how everything works and then sharing his expertise with others.
Scott passed on May 5th, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, holding hands with Jana and Brooke.  He is survived by his daughter Brooke, devoted wife Jana, step children Leigh Ann and Carter,  as well as his brother, Reese Turner, and sisters, Angie Turner, Summer Wilson and Autumn McCall. Due to the current travel and social situation, a celebration of Scott’s life will be held at a later date.

At the age of 1, he and his parents moved to Eberly's Mill PA to be with his Grandparents. At the age of 15, his father's job took them to Dundalk Maryland where he became good friends with John "Nick" Schultz. A few years later in life Dick and Nick would marry sisters and continue their friendship as brothers-in-law. In 1943 Dick joined the Army Air Force where he was introduced to his greatest passion......flying! He went on to a long and distinguished career as an airline Pilot, flying for Colonial, Capital, North Central and finally retiring as a Captain with Republic Airlines in 1984. James "Jim" Charles Rogers

AUGUST 20, 1936 – AUGUST 2, 2020

James Charles Rogers of Apex, North Carolina slipped these surly bonds of earth on August 2, 2020. Jim was born in Tabor City, North Carolina on August 20, 1936, son of James Samuel and  Inez Harrelson Rogers. As a boy, he dreamed of flying airplanes and, while still in college, he fulfilled that dream. As a Captain in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Vietnam and Cold Wars and over a thirty-year career at Delta Air Lines, he sailed the skies, his home away from home.

Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and was bemused when his four children all became Tar Heel fans. He was a lifelong avid reader, racing through anything he could get his hands on, yet he had a fondness for books about aviation, the wild west, and the American Civil War. He was a freethinker with a wry sense of humor, and he had an uncanny ability to recall facts about a wide breadth of subjects.

In his later years, even as his health declined, he remained cheerful. He shared that cheer with his grandchildren, who were his devotion for the past 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Pratt Rogers; siblings Anna Rogers, Carole Rogers Hedrick, and Graham (Sandy) Rogers; children, James R. Rogers and wife Catherine, Jonathan Rogers, Stephen Rogers, and Elizabeth Ratledge and husband Brian; and grandchildren Jami, Jessica, Abby, Lucy, John Brian, Jimmy, Charlie, and Bethany.
