Western/Delta pilot Captain Gilbert Jack Milgrom, age 82. Captain Milgrom joined Western Airlines 10-03-1966
and retired with Delta Air Lines in 1998, based 030/CVG at the time of his

Obituary………………..
Gilbert Jack
Milgrom, 82 of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on October 26th at his home
after a six month battle with cancer. Gil was a graduate of the University of
Illinois and a captain and chief pilot for Western and Delta Airlines for
thirty years. Blessed with a great personality and sense of humor Gil was loved
by all who were lucky enough to know him. Gil was a bon vivant who led a
spectacular life. He shared his love of travel and the good life with friends
and family. Gil is survived by his brother Daniel, sister-in-law Priscilla, his
cousin Faye and her two children Dawn and Mitchell, his stepdaughter Pao and
his former wife Maria.
I flew as a flight attendant for 47 years. I was hired by Western and retired with Delta. I flew with Captain Milgrom many times , many years ago. I thought he was kind , funny and certainly competent. We had a cracked windscreen in the cockpit and landing was spot on. I can't remember if it was a bird strike during the approach. Captain Milgrom was a very calm man and very nice.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky, and honored to meet Captain Gilbert Jack "Doc" Milgrom in 1998, while he was sitting at a Boca Raton, FL Starbucks coffee shop sipping coffee and telling flying stories. I happened to sit down at the next table and was able to overhear him telling the "Astronaut Story" as he called it. I learned he'd recently retired, and yet was ready, willing, and able to fly at a moments notice. His passion for flight was superlative.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, Gil left me his extensive aviation memorabilia collection, including many super-rare items, which I enjoy looking at daily, and cherish with pride.
At that moment, I knew we'd be friends!
"Doc" became a second Father to me from that moment on, right up until his passing.
We all get old, but the Captain's flying stories never did, or will.
His flying career began at age 12 flying a single engine prop plane daily from St. Thomas, USVI to San Juan, PR to go to school.
Following his service with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, he was hired initially by Western Airlines, which was subsequently bought by Delta Airlines, with which he ended his long career.
I miss speaking with him 2-3X/ day, his stories, and most of all his friendship. He was kind, intuitive, funny, charismatic, and a well-respected proficient Captain!
